And judging from his tone, they were more than just ordinary acquaintances.
To be honest, he was a little curious about what he had been doing all these years.
But this is a good way to steer the conversation; now everyone's attention is on his sister-in-law, and nobody's paying attention to him anymore.
If it weren't for so many people watching him, he probably wouldn't have been able to eat, even though the food was indeed quite good today.
However, the thought of going to the brick factory to move bricks tomorrow made the food in his mouth seem less appetizing.
Listening to the group chattering away, Su Nianxue's appetite increased.
But before even eating a piece, he slowly put it down again.
"What's wrong?" Gu Yanbai wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that her face seemed a bit paler.
His intuition was right; Su Nianxue was indeed feeling unwell.
She felt a slight, dull pain in her stomach.
However, remembering that it was her grandfather's birthday and the family rarely got together, she didn't want to spoil everyone's fun.
Thinking that perhaps, like the previous times, this pain would pass quickly.

"Is your stomach hurting?" Seeing her hands covering her stomach, Gu Yanbai's expression became a little more anxious.
Su Nianxue forced a smile. "Just a little bit. It's okay, you guys keep eating. I guess I ate too much at lunch, I'm just too full."
"Nonsense, how can that little bit of cat food possibly sustain you? Why don't we go to the vet?" He threw down his chopsticks and stood up.
Everyone at the table looked at her nervously, and even stopped eating.
The old man, in particular, considered the days in his mind and asked, "Is she about to give birth?"
Su Nianxue waved her hand, "You guys eat first, I'm going to rest for a while, maybe I'll be fine in a bit."
She has a history of this; she occasionally experiences stomach aches these days, but they subside after a while.
She didn't want a misunderstanding to spoil everyone's fun.
That being said, after all that commotion, everyone lost their enthusiasm and just ate a couple of bites, and that was the end of the birthday celebration.
After they finished eating, Gu Yanbai quickly asked, "Are you feeling better now?"
Su Nianxue shook her head, "No, it seems to hurt more."
The old man slapped his thigh. "She's probably about to give birth. What are we waiting for? Let's get to the hospital right away!"
As he spoke, he jogged into the house and came out carrying a large bag of things.
These were all things he had prepared in advance for the child: small clothes, blankets, diapers, and so on.
Although they were all made of old fabric, he first scalded them with boiling water and then dried them in the sun for several days before carefully storing them away.
It's perfectly clean!
I thought it wasn't enough at first, but when I put them all away, it turned out to be a huge bag.
Without hesitation, Gu Yanbai scooped her up in his arms and strode out of the room.
Gu Yanliu took the things from the old man's hands. "Grandpa, your legs aren't strong enough, so don't go. Leave everything to me."
The old man said, "Then what are you babbling about? Go on!"
Gu Yanliu took the large bag of things and ran out quickly, calling out to his back, "Brother, don't worry, I'll hitch up the car, it'll be ready soon."
Soon, the group arrived at the hospital.
Su Nianxue came here for several check-ups during her pregnancy.
Therefore, once you enter the hospital, just go directly to a doctor you know.
The doctor immediately understood the situation upon seeing her condition.
After examining her, he said, "She is indeed about to give birth. But don't worry, this is her first pregnancy, it won't be that quick."
The brother and sister did not relax at all because of the doctor's words.
Seeing her pale face from the pain, Gu Yanbai asked anxiously, "Doctor, is there any way to relieve the pain? Money is not a problem!"
The doctor shook his head, saying seriously, "It's not about money; our hospital doesn't have the resources for that right now."
"What about painkillers?"
"No, she's giving birth, not sick. How can she take painkillers? That's just ridiculous!" the doctor said gently.
"Alright, don't make things difficult for the doctor, I... I'm fine!" Su Nianxue gripped his wrist tightly and said these words with some difficulty.
My wrist was throbbing with pain because of the force with which she gripped it.
His eyes darkened slightly, and he extended his hand towards her again.
With his other hand, he picked up a handkerchief and carefully wiped the sweat off her face.
With a soft chuckle, a woman's laughter rang out from the bed next to her.
"Young man, look how nervous you are. What woman doesn't experience pain during childbirth?"
Back when we were having babies, we still went to the fields and farms even when we were heavily pregnant.
Some people even give birth to their children in the ground.
Even when it's time to give birth, they just find a midwife to come to their home and deliver the baby, and that's it.
Unlike the young wives of today, who are truly precious.
It's just having a baby, why do we have to rush to the hospital? How much does that cost?
"You really don't know the value of money until you're in charge of the household." After saying this, the old woman gave Su Nianxue, who was lying on the hospital bed, a disdainful look.
