After her aunt left, Su Nianxue asked,
"Yanliu, how come you're so familiar with buying and selling?"
And how did you know the price?
"What's the big deal? I used to come to town with my grandpa to sell things, and I was always the one doing the hawking." Gu Yanliu said with a hint of pride.
"As for the price, that was naturally arranged by my brother!"
"Your brother?"
"How come I didn't know?" I didn't expect him to care about such a small thing.
“He told me this morning, before you were even up. He was rushing to town, so he just told me directly.”
"Yanliu, you've really helped your sister-in-law a lot!" Su Nianxue said, still a little embarrassed.
She was originally the one who brought Gu Yanliu to do business, but Gu Yanliu took the lead instead.
"Sister-in-law, please don't say that."
You just couldn't open up at the beginning.
"You'll get used to it in a few days," Gu Yanliu comforted her.
Soon, another aunt passed by their stall, and Gu Yanliu copied their work, quickly selling more than half of it.
Su Nianxue clutched the change in her hand and said happily, "Yanliu, we can earn money too!"
"Yes, we're going to make lots and lots of money in the future." Gu Yanliu smiled as she watched the business thrive.
"Yanliu, Yanbai's wife, are you two selling bean sprouts?"
As soon as Su Nianxue saw the woman in front of her, she subconsciously glanced at Gu Yanliu.
Sure enough, Gu Yanliu's expression had turned rather unpleasant, and she said coldly, "Anyone with eyes can see that we're selling bean sprouts."
Wang Peilan received a cold look and felt somewhat embarrassed.
"What kind of attitude is that? Who are you trying to bully?
A girl of about fifteen or sixteen years old standing next to Wang Peilan, who bore a resemblance to her, looked at Gu Yanliu and shouted at her.
"Yingzi, don't talk to your sister like that." Although she spoke in a scolding tone, her face was gentle, showing no sign of displeasure.
"No, no, I don't have such a sister. Don't make up relatives." Gu Yanliu felt both bitter and resentful looking at her pretentious act.
"It's not like anyone wants to acknowledge you as their older sister." Yingzi raised her head high and pouted disdainfully.
When Wang Peilan visited the house last time, Su Nianxue had already learned everything about her past.
I also dislike her behavior and understand the hatred of the Gu siblings.
To be fair, if this person were her mother, she wouldn't be able to let it go either.
So she calmly said, "If you want to buy bean sprouts, then buy them."
If you're not going to buy it, then move aside.
"Don't block our stall, we need to do business!"
"I'll buy it, I'll buy it." Wang Peilan was about to take out her money.
"Mom, let's not buy from them. There are plenty of bean sprout vendors in the market. Why should we bother with their indifference?"
Yingzi held Wang Peilan's hand, refusing to let her pay.
"If you're not buying, get out of the way. Don't delay our business." Su Nianxue coldly dismissed them.
"Mom, let's go, don't put up with their bullying." Yingzi grabbed Wang Peilan and left.
"Why are you so impulsive, child?" She gently slapped Yingzi on the back.
Then, she turned to Gu Yanliu and said, "Yanliu, I'm leaving now. I'll come to see you again when I have time."
"No need, we're not familiar with each other, you don't need to come see us anymore." Gu Yanliu crossed her arms and looked at them coldly.
Wang Peilan eventually left with Yingzi.
Su Nianxue, afraid that Yanliu would feel bad, comforted her, "Yanliu, we made money in business today."
When we get back, let's go buy some pork.
Let's have a good meal today and forget all these unhappy things.
I know she meant well; she just didn't want me to be hurt!
Gu Yanliu smiled at her, "Sister-in-law, don't worry, I'm fine."
But you were the one who said you would buy pork.
When I get back, I'll need to eat two bowls of rice today.
"Okay, I said we'd buy more, and give some to Grandpa too."
Soon, the entire load of bean sprouts was sold out.
Su Nianxue counted the wheat coupons in her hand. Twenty catties of bean sprouts were sold for a total of three yuan and eighty cents.
The mung beans cost 25 cents a pound, and after deducting the cost, they made a net profit of 3.1 yuan.
"Yanliu, guess how much money we made today?" Su Nianxue waved the money in her hand with a grin.
"Sister-in-law, stop keeping me in suspense and tell me!" Gu Yanliu was equally excited; this was the first money they had ever earned.
“Besides the initial investment, we made a total of three yuan and one jiao,” Su Nianxue quickly told her the answer.
"Wow, that's a lot!" Three yuan is quite a lot; it's equivalent to two days' wages for a city dweller.
"Yeah, your brother is really smart." Although Gu Yanbai's character isn't great, he's definitely quick-witted.
“That’s right. If my brother wasn’t quick-witted, would he be able to make money?” Gu Yanliu naturally defended her brother.
Su Nianxue wholeheartedly agreed with this point.
Although it's unclear how much money he has, judging from his attitude towards household expenses, it's clear he must have a considerable amount of money.
I don't know where they got so much money.
"Let's go, let's go buy meat."
Given the great start to the year, Su Nianxue generously bought two jin of meat, spending one yuan and fifty cents.
Seeing Gu Yanliu's distress, she said, "Sister-in-law, one pound is enough. Why buy so much?"
There are four people in our family!
Buying too little won't be enough.
"Anyway, we're happy today, so let's eat as much as we want." Su Nianxue readily took out her money.
"Aren't there three people?" Her brother has always been elusive, and she's gotten used to it over the years.
