Chapter 40 The Dispute

"You brat, how can you talk like that? Is that how you talk to your elders?"

Gu Yanliu rolled her eyes. "What are you pretending to be? Whose elder are you?"

"You brat, you really are born of a mother but have no mother to teach you."

"Exactly, they have absolutely no manners."

Upon hearing the two men reopen her wounds like this, Gu Yanliu's eyes immediately reddened.

Su Nianxue's eyes darkened, and she pulled her behind her. "Are you two looking for a fight?"

Spewing filth so early in the morning, doesn't he feel bad about it?

If you dare to spout nonsense again, I'll deal with you.

Su Nianxue raised her fist. Back in the Su family, she had fought with Su Jiaojiao quite a bit.

She has some experience when it comes to fighting.

It's just that fighting in the market isn't very aesthetically pleasing.

Clearly, the two aunts had also thought of this.

They weren't afraid of trouble; others might be afraid of Gu Yanbai, but their family wasn't.

If we really compare, it's not necessarily true who will come out on the worse side!

They also wanted to take the opportunity to teach the two girls a lesson, but then they remembered that they were there to sell bean sprouts, so they gave up the idea.

Soon, the market became bustling with activity.

"Little girl, it's you two again?"

"Your bean sprouts are delicious, can you give me two more pounds?" It was none other than the aunt who had bought their bean sprouts for the first time last time.

Seeing that a customer had come to her door, Gu Yanliu quickly composed herself and deftly weighed out two jin for her. Su Nianxue then took the money.

Soon, several more aunties came to buy vegetables. They were all regulars who had bought from them last time.

Aunt Lan Hua and Aunt Lu Hua got anxious. Why did they all go to their stalls? Their stalls weren't even that far apart!

The two of them rolled their eyes, and a crooked idea popped into their heads.

"Selling bean sprouts! Selling bean sprouts! Only 15 cents a pound!"

Upon hearing this, the aunties abandoned Su Nianxue and the others' stall and surrounded their baskets.

Their eyes were filled with suspicion. "You're selling these bean sprouts so cheaply, can they even taste good? Won't they taste bitter?"

Aunt Luhua said with a smug look, "I've been growing bean sprouts for decades, and my skills are very advanced. I'm definitely better than those young girls."

Buy it and try it. If you don't like it, come back to me.

The reason we're selling it cheaper is because it's our first day in business, and we just want to get to know everyone!

Aunt Lanhua, who was always in cahoots with her, immediately chimed in, "Yes, yes!"

We're from Hongxi Village next door. If you don't like the food, come find us in our village.

Upon hearing this, the aunties began to believe it more and said one after another, "Please weigh out two pounds for me."

"I want one too."

"I'll have a pound too."

………

As Aunt Luhua weighed the bean sprouts, she glanced smugly at Gu Yanliu and the others.

Gu Yanliu was so angry that her eyes turned red. She rolled up her sleeves and wanted to rush over and fight them. This was too much bullying.

"Yanliu, come back!" Su Nianxue grabbed her arm.

"Sister-in-law, they've gone too far!"

Su Nianxue shook her head at her.

Gu Yanliu stamped her foot in frustration, but eventually returned. "Sister-in-law, what do we do now?"

Su Nianxue glanced at the sun overhead. It was getting late, and if they didn't sell soon, the market would be closing.

"Let's make it 15 cents a pound too!"

Gu Yanliu remained silent for a moment; this was the only option now.

And so, even though the price of bean sprouts dropped to 15 cents a pound, there was still a little more than half left in the basket when there were hardly any people on the street.

But Aunt Luhua and her family had already sold out of bean sprouts.

It was getting hotter and hotter, so Su Nianxue packed up the basket. "Let's go, Yanliu, let's go back!"

"Sister-in-law, there are still so many?" Gu Yanliu looked at the bean sprouts in the basket with some worry.

"There's no other way, let's take it back and eat it ourselves!" Su Nianxue felt extremely depressed, as she was afraid she wouldn't be able to sell it at the next market.

Gu Yanliu looked at the remaining bean sprouts in the basket, glared angrily at Aunt Luhua and the others, and almost burst into tears.

To avoid them laughing at her, she quickly wiped her eyes and held back her tears.

Aunt Luhua looked smug and proudly waved the bills in her hand.

He spat hard on his hand and began counting the bills aloud, one by one.

"One cent, two cents..."

Aunt Lan Hua followed suit, and after counting, she added sarcastically, "They should know that experience counts!"

Seeing their murderous eyes, Aunt Luhua tugged at Aunt Lanhua's arm and shouted as they walked away.

"Come on, Orchid, let's go buy some meat."

Today we ate our fill, and the aroma filled half the village.

The two men, beaming with pride, picked up their empty baskets and strode away.

As soon as they left, Gu Yanliu could no longer hold back and burst into tears.

"Yanliu, don't cry. I'll think of another way. I have other ideas!"

"Sister-in-law, don't worry about me, let me cry for a while." Gu Yanliu squatted down, buried her head between her legs, and began to sob.

Su Nianxue stayed with her until she stopped crying, and then the two of them headed home.

Gu Yanliu was listless the whole way home, and only when she got home did she say, "I'm going up the mountain to find Grandpa!"

Then he took off running.

Soon, Su Nianxue saw Grandpa Gu with a sullen face, carrying a carrying pole, hurrying towards the village.

Su Nianxue's heart skipped a beat. She quickly put down what she was holding and followed after him.

Despite his advanced age, Grandpa Gu is quite agile.

Su Nianxue had to jog to keep up with his pace.

Soon, Grandpa Gu barged into Aunt Luhua's house.

Inside the main room, Aunt Luhua was spitting out words of boasting to her family that she had bought meat with the money she had earned.

Then there was a loud bang from the door, followed by someone shouting loudly.

"Li Luhua, you old woman, who do you think you are, bullying my granddaughter and my granddaughter-in-law?"

"If I don't show my power today, you still think we, the Gu family, are easy to bully, right?"

Before anyone could react, Grandpa Gu had already wielded the carrying pole with great skill and flair.

With a single sweep of the carrying pole, the large bowls and vegetable bowls on the table were swept all over the floor.

It wasn't until the sound of bowls and plates shattering rang out that Aunt Luhua and her family realized what was happening.

They were simply confronted by someone who came knocking on their door.

Aunt Luhua stared at the white, fatty slices of meat on the ground and roared, "You owe me my meat!"

"I'll keep your grandma company."

"You steal their business, fine, but you even dare to insult my Yanliu and bully my granddaughter-in-law! I should tear your filthy mouth apart!"

The old man, still not satisfied with his words, swept the thermos on the low table onto the ground with his carrying pole.

Aunt Luhua screamed, "Robbers! Robbers have come to our door!"

Old Master Gu sneered, "Go ahead and shout, shout as loud as you want."

"If anyone comes later, I'll lie down on the ground and say you were the ones who did it. Let's see how you save face then!"

Su Nianxue...
