Chapter 3
When Qiu Momo was little, he had fantasized more than once about the scene when his family came to find him. The scene would definitely be very touching. He would be lovingly held in the arms of his biological parents, who would ask him carefully how he had been doing all these years. The three of them would hug each other, laughing and crying at the same time, and then go home hand in hand.
But all his beautiful fantasies shattered when he realized he was different.
He was abandoned.
Because he is a monster.
So after that, whenever Qiu Momo's midnight dreams returned to the scenes he had previously imagined, he would always wake up in a fright and remain awake until dawn. He kept telling himself to stop daydreaming, that his family would never come looking for him again, that they simply didn't want him anymore.
But today, the man with an extraordinary demeanor claimed to be his uncle, saying that they had finally found him after searching for eleven years. At first, Qiu Momo thought she was dreaming.
But when he fell into the man's arms and smelled the different, pungent herbal scent emanating from the dark basement, he suddenly came to his senses.
Realizing their overly intimate posture, Qiu Momo immediately blushed and took a step back. Her uncle, as a matter of course, straightened his suit, which Qiu Momo had crumpled, frowned, and looked at Qiu Momo with a serious expression.
Qiu glanced at his uncle cautiously, then lowered his head and stared intently at his toes.
"Pack your things and come back with me tonight."
The man had no intention of reminiscing; he spoke directly to Qiu Momo. Upon hearing this, Qiu Momo abruptly looked up, her small face filled with helplessness.
"Leaving tonight?" His voice was soft, with a slight tremor.
Although finding his family made him very happy, and he could understand that his biological parents missed him so much that they asked his uncle to take him back as soon as possible, was it a bit too hasty to set off overnight? He still had many things to take care of.
Perhaps sensing Qiu Momo's concerns, the man continued, "There will be someone to handle things here. You just need to come with me. Your grandfather and the others are still waiting for you at home. They..." The man glanced at Qiu Momo and hesitated before saying, "They miss you very much."
Upon hearing this, Qiu Momo seemed to have no reason to refuse anymore. He nodded almost subconsciously, then turned around and began packing the few belongings he and Qiu Yang had.
Just then, Qiu Yang pushed open the door and entered. Qiu Momo saw him and immediately grabbed his hand happily, saying, "Brother, let's pack quickly, we'll go home tonight."
Qiu Yang glanced at the man and noticed that the man did indeed frown when he heard Qiu Momo's words, but it seemed that his brows had not relaxed since he entered the small basement.
So he gently pulled his hand away from Qiu Momo's, smiled and took the luggage that Qiu Momo had helped him pack, and said to him, "Momo, that's your home, not mine."
Qiu silently lowered his hand, glanced at Qiu Yang, and then looked helplessly at his uncle. Seeing that neither of them intended to speak, he stammered, "Uncle, can't my brother come with us? He took me in for eleven years. Without him, I wouldn't exist. Can you take my brother with you?" By the end, his voice was already trembling with sobs, his eyes were slightly red, and clear tears were welling up in them.
The man remained silent.
Qiu Momo felt a chill run down his spine. Admittedly, it was inevitable that he would return home once his family found him, but he couldn't bring himself to abandon Qiu Yang, his only family.
Qiu Yang sighed, took Qiu Momo's hand and whispered, "Momo, don't make things difficult for your uncle. I won't leave, I'll stay here. If you have time after you go back, you can come back and visit me again."
"But brother, your health isn't good. What will you do without me?" Qiu Momo finally couldn't hold back anymore, and tears streamed down her face like a river bursting its banks.
Qiu Yang grabbed a tissue and wiped his face, saying with a smile, "Don't worry about me. I'm a grown man, I can manage on my own. Don't underestimate me."
Qiu Momo remained silent, letting Qiu Yang take over the work from him and begin packing up Qiu Momo's things. Actually, there wasn't much to pack. The man's demeanor and clothing were extraordinary; Momo's family must be wealthy and powerful. Even if she packed up the things in this basement and brought them over, they would only be thrown away.
Thinking of this, Qiu Yang felt a sudden lump in his throat.
His silent journey has finally led him to his family.
He was happy for him.
Sang Jing watched silently as Qiu Yang packed Qiu Momo's things, handed them to Qiu Momo, then took his hand and walked up to him, saying, "Mr. Sang, Momo is in your care now. You must take good care of him."
After he finished speaking, he smiled.
Those are Momo's family members. They will treat Momo very well without him saying anything. He is worrying too much.
When Qiu Yang released Qiu Momo's hand, Qiu Momo suddenly screamed.
"elder brother!"
She then threw herself into Qiu Yang's arms, her eyes red, and said to him, "Brother, I will come back to see you. You must remember me. We must call each other every day."
Qiu Yang smiled and nodded, "Okay, you have to be good when you get there. Don't always have a grumpy face, it doesn't look good. We look best when we smile quietly."
"Brother, you must take good care of yourself. Take your medicine on time, don't get distracted when you're brewing the Chinese medicine, remember to go to the hospital for a check-up, and don't try to tough it out if you're not feeling well. The noodle shop isn't doing much business anyway, so just ask for leave. The boss won't say anything. If anything happens, be sure to call me."
"Um."
I will miss you.
"Me too."
After saying goodbye, Qiu reluctantly followed his uncle into the Cullinan parked by the roadside. Once inside, Sang Jing didn't start the car immediately. Instead, he took a file folder from the passenger seat, got out, and handed it to Qiu Yang, who was still waiting on the side.
Qiu Yang took it with a puzzled look, and just as he was about to open it, Sang Jing's voice came over: "This is a thank-you gift for Mr. Qiu's care for Sang Nian over the past eleven years."
Qiu Yang opened the car and found a check and a property deed inside. He stared blankly at the tall man in front of him, and before he could even utter a word of refusal, Qiu Momo had already fumbled to open the car window and stuck her head out.
"Brother, take this. It's what you deserve."
"silently……"
"Brother, if you don't take it, then I won't go back. We'll still be living in this basement, eating one meal and going hungry." After saying that, he made a move to get out of the car.
Qiu Yang immediately stopped him. He glanced at Qiu Momo and finally accepted the gift as a token of his gratitude.
"Then brother, now that you have money, don't work too hard. Quit your job at the noodle shop, and stay home to recover. I'll come back to see you."
Perhaps infected by Qiu Momo's innocent and carefree smile, Qiu Yang finally smiled as well. He affectionately patted Qiu Momo's head and agreed to all his instructions.
As the car drove along the dimly lit streets, Qiu leaned her head against the window, staring blankly at the scenery outside.
Once the car was on the highway, he finally made a move. He carefully took a breath, the action of breathing causing a dull ache in his heart. He clenched his teeth, and then, without warning, large amounts of tears fell down his face.
He's really gone.
He was really leaving Qiu Yang like this. Eleven years of friendship couldn't be thrown away so easily. He could have turned away gracefully, and Qiu Yang would have sincerely wished him well in finding his family. But now that they were truly parting, he realized how much he couldn't bear to leave Qiu Yang.
Qiu Momo glanced up at the man driving silently, and a plan suddenly formed in his mind. He could go back and ask his parents to bring Qiu Yang over. He thought his parents would definitely agree to their only request from their long-lost son. With this thought, Qiu Momo's mood instantly brightened.
As the early hours of the next day approached, the car finally stopped. Half-asleep, Qiu saw the car parked in front of a brightly lit, luxurious estate.
Two rows of people stood in front of the door, and they all bent down when they saw Sang Jing get out of the car.
Qiu Momo, no, now we should call her Sang Nian. Sang Nian suddenly woke up, grabbed his schoolbag, opened the car door and jumped out.
The moment he stepped off the train and made sure the train was firmly in place, a loud voice rang out, echoing throughout the empty mountain manor.
"Welcome home, young master Sang!"
Sang Nian was so frightened that he immediately hid behind Sang Jing. He had never seen such a scene before and didn't know how to deal with it. Sang Jing was the only person he knew at the moment, so he could only seek his help.
Sang Jing ignored him and started walking forward. Sang Nian could only follow closely behind, but Sang Jing's legs were too long and his strides were too big, so Sang Nian had to jog to keep up with him.
Upon entering the villa, Sang Nian changed into slippers that a servant had prepared beforehand. Before he could even take in the luxurious villa, he suddenly heard a cough, and the next second he was tightly embraced. He could hear a steady, strong heartbeat in his ear and smell the faint scent of sandalwood. Sang Nian was held so tightly that he couldn't move.
"Niannian, you're finally back. Dad missed you so much."
Sang Nian looked up at the man in front of her: he was very tall, slightly overweight, with neatly combed hair, and a face that resembled Sang Jing by about 50-60 percent, wearing a broad smile, looking like a university professor. When he saw Sang Nian observing him, his smile widened.
“Niannian, I am your father, Sang Yu.” That’s how he introduced himself.
dad?
Before Sang Nian could react, Sang Yu immediately pulled him into the living room. Only then did Sang Nian notice that there were five people sitting on the sofa in the living room, one of whom was Sang Jing, his uncle, who had brought him back to Haishi from Dingzhou.
"This is Mom, Tao Wanru, do you remember her?"
Sang Yu pointed to the beautiful and gentle woman sitting on the far side and asked him. Sang Nian lowered his eyes, his gaze meeting Tao Wanru's in mid-air. He wasn't sure if it was his imagination, but he sensed Tao Wanru flinch for a moment before quickly looking away. Sang Yu continued speaking in his ear, then said to Tao Wanru, "Wanru, this is Niannian." She then placed Sang Nian's hand in Tao Wanru's. Tao Wanru glanced at Sang Yu, then stiffly took Sang Nian's hand in hers.
Sang Nian's hands were icy cold, while Tao Wanru's hands were warm. The moment they touched, Tao Wanru shivered.
"Niannian, you've worked so hard all these years." After saying that, Tao Wanru quickly pushed Sang Nian to the center and said with a smile to the stern-faced man sitting in the middle of the sofa, "Dad, Niannian is back." Then she said to Sang Nian, "Niannian, this is Grandpa." After saying that, she ignored Sang Nian and returned to her seat, instructing the servant to fetch a hot towel and wiping her hands.
Sang Nian didn't notice her movements; he was only looking at the person sitting next to the old man who looked exactly like him.
This is his twin brother; they really do look alike.
As if noticing Sang Nian's gaze, the boy looked up, smiled at him, then extended his hand in greeting, saying to Sang Nian, "My name is Sang Ning, and I'm your older brother."
After he finished speaking, the old man, who had been keeping a stern face, finally spoke: "Now that you're back, stay put." With that, he picked up his cane and stood up. Seeing this, Sang Ning immediately stood up to help him and respectfully asked, "Grandpa, are you going back to your room now?"
Sang Wenhua nodded, tossed out a "You all should get some rest too," and went back to his room with Sang Ning's help. After Sang Wenhua left, Sang Jing was the first to get up. Without saying a word, he turned and walked towards the door. A short while later, Sang Nian heard the sound of a car starting. After he left, the woman sitting next to him also stood up, yawning. She walked up to Sang Nian, patted his shoulder, and said weakly, "Good nephew, call me aunt."
Sang Nian murmured.
"aunt."
Sang Ke smiled and waved her hand, "It's too late today, Auntie will give you a red envelope tomorrow." After saying that, she glanced at Tao Wanru, who was sitting on the sofa, and turned to go upstairs.
At this point, only Sang Nian and his parents, whom he had just met, remained in the living room.
Tao Wanru pressed her head, looking at Sang Yu impatiently. Sang Yu noticed and scratched his head with a forced smile. Then he put his arm around Sang Nian's shoulder and led him upstairs, saying as they walked, "It's too late today, they're all sleepy. Dad will give you a proper introduction tomorrow morning. You're tired too, so just wash up and go to bed tonight." As he spoke, he casually pushed open a door. "I was in a hurry to prepare, so I didn't know what kind you liked. I just decorated it according to Ningning's preferences."
Sang Nian stared blankly at the room, which was decorated in sky blue, and frowned. Sky blue was his least favorite color, but he nodded with a smile as Sang Yu looked on expectantly.
"I really like it, thank you."
