Misunderstand

I messed up.

The night air was cold, and the streets were packed with people, crowding the square, all eagerly anticipating New Year's Eve.

Few people noticed that I was wearing an expensive dress, a pricey leather jacket, and high heels, but I looked completely dazed.

What should we do next?

I shouldn't have refused Xie Yong, at least not before he agreed to testify in court.

I think.

However, half an hour ago, when Xie Yong approached me, the sophisticated, aged scent of fir wood emanating from him seemed to slowly wrap around me like a rope.

Xie Yong looked at me quietly and said, "Think it over carefully before you answer me."

The streets were bustling, and the lights from the surrounding shops fell around us, making it difficult for me to discern his true attitude as half of his face was hidden in the shadows.

His privileged upbringing instilled in him a sense of superiority and arrogance, and he was probably certain that I wouldn't refuse.

I:"……"

His gaze was aggressive, as if he had already made the choice for me without my consent, which made me uneasy.

He maintained impeccable patience and manners, appearing calmly awaiting my answer. Yet, when our eyes met, I could discern the emotions hidden beneath his seemingly composed expression, much like Jiang Mingzhuo and Jiang Zhao—the same confident and composed demeanor I knew best.

I shook my head, my eyelashes trembling as I refused.

At that moment, I began to regret my overestimation of my abilities.

I shouldn't have taken it upon myself to contact Xie Yong, and I even fantasized that he would have a change of heart and testify for Yu Xu in court. I began to realize that he was a troublesome person that was hard to shake off once I got involved with him.

I trampled Xie Yong's arrogance underfoot. He frowned, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes.

"Have you thought it through?"

I lowered my eyelashes, turned around, and left.

Actually, I contacted the wrong person from the beginning.

Was Xie Yong an easy person to get along with? Yes and no.

As a chosen one of heaven, he was always surrounded by people, fawned over, and approached. Naturally, he developed a condescending attitude towards others.

Most of the friends he can associate with are not ordinary people; they are in the same social class as him, and he is willing to spend some time treating them with patience.

I unexpectedly entered this world and felt out of place. It's no wonder that Xie Yong mistook me for someone who wanted to pursue him and did these things to me.

"Xiao Fu!" Someone called my name from not far away, and Lu Qixi waved anxiously at me.

I was jostled and stumbled a couple of steps before managing to steady myself. I watched as Lu Qixi ran toward me, looking at me with concern. But my vision was blurry, as if a layer of fog had rolled in, and I couldn't see anything clearly.

"What happened? You..." Lu Qixi looked me up and down. Perhaps she noticed the marks on my neck and collarbone, and she was quite frightened. Her expression immediately turned serious: "What happened to you?"

“I messed up, I couldn’t get Yu Xu out…” I gestured to her, letting out a weak sob, and told Lu Qixi what had happened during this time.

Lu Qixi paused for a moment, then hugged me tightly in a comforting manner, "We haven't reached the point of having nowhere to go yet, don't worry."

She went to a nearby convenience store, bought a cup of hot cocoa, handed it to me, and breathed a sigh of relief: "But thankfully, you didn't get yourself involved, otherwise Yu Xu would have felt even worse."

I remained dejected.

Refusing Xie Yong not only means the absence of a witness, but also that my "deal" with Ye Fenglin seems to be coming to an end.

"Xiao Fu, why don't we go see that lawyer together tomorrow? Since they've already gone this far, why not just hire him as Yu Xu's defense lawyer? I don't believe that guys like them who only care about money would give up their court fees."

A glimmer of hope ignited in my eyes. Over the past few years, Yu Xu and I had saved up some money. Although it wasn't much, I could work as a model, take a job at the Sky Restaurant, and find several part-time jobs to earn enough money to give to the lawyer so that he could bring Yu Xu home safely.

Seeing that I was in a better mood, Lu Qixi pointed to the sky, "Xiao Fu, look."

The sky was now filled with fireworks, pale purple, pale pink... It was a breathtaking sight. I picked up my phone and instinctively took several pictures.

Yu Xu has a habit of sharing things, and even though he wasn't around, I still habitually logged into his Instagram and posted a picture of fireworks there. Just a few seconds later, I heard the app notification sound.

Someone left a message.

"You can come to me if you need anything."

A second later, another comment appeared in the comments section.

"I can grant your New Year's wish."

"[smile][smile][smile]"

The commenter's name is ITsnotNeighbour.

A completely black profile picture, an account, no followers, and even the nickname looked like it was generated from gibberish. I couldn't help but chuckle. I knew there were always people like that on the app, who couldn't resist commenting in anyone's comment section to assert their presence.

He has appeared in the comment section of Yu Xu's account more than once or twice.

Perhaps it's because he lives nearby, but every time big data pushes out, he appears immediately after Yu Xu posts the latest update on his account.

I replied.

"Can you let me meet my boyfriend?"

There were no further replies. Just as I suspected, he was just a netizen who liked to seek attention.

Lu Qixi turned to the side and asked, "What's wrong?"

I shook my head. It wasn't midnight yet, but the atmosphere in the square was already getting lively. The lights were dim, and excited shouts and screams filled almost every corner. Perhaps influenced by this atmosphere, I stayed a little longer until a cold wind blew against my calves, making me shiver.

When I got home, my head was spinning. I had originally planned to hang up the dress Xie Yong had given me and take it to the dry cleaners the next morning, but I was too weak to do it.

My body temperature began to rise gradually, and my limbs even started to ache slightly. I turned on the air conditioner in the bedroom, crawled under the covers, but I was still shivering from the cold. My mind was like mush, and I couldn't think of anything. My eyelids were so heavy that I couldn't open them.

I don't know how much time passed.

I woke up, but it felt like I wasn't fully awake. I could only feel the strands of hair on my forehead sticking haphazardly to my cheeks, and my whole body was burning hot and sticky. I had no choice but to get up and go to the bathroom. The hot water slowly poured over my body, and I seemed to feel a little better.

I slowly picked up a bath towel and wrapped it around myself before stepping out. There, I saw a man sitting on the sofa in the living room.

Only a floor lamp was lit there, the light was dim, but it still outlined his slender figure. He was wearing a gray trench coat, which looked very high-quality.

It was an exceptionally beautiful face, with delicate features that were not effeminate, slightly upturned eyes, and a smooth and superior profile.

Once he stops smiling, his sharp edge becomes hard to conceal, and his eyes, which should be exceptionally affectionate, begin to exude a strong sense of pressure.

My head was still spinning, and after a while, my body slowly stiffened.

Jiang Mingzhuo.

I almost cried out in surprise and took a few steps back. I wondered if I was dreaming, just like the night I dreamed that he appeared at my house in the same posture after I met him at the store. But Jiang Mingzhuo obviously noticed me. He stood up, lowered his gaze, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.

It was the same as in my dream, yet different.

"Didn't you want to see me?" he asked, moving closer to me, water dripping from his still-damp hair onto his shoulders and neck.

It's so cold, I suddenly shivered.

My heart was pounding, my palms were sweating and slippery, and my mind was racing with all sorts of possibilities: He's alright? Then who was hit by the car? Why is he here? Am I really not dreaming?

The high fever completely shut down my brain. I stared blankly as Jiang Mingzhuo got closer and closer. He raised his hand and stroked my neck gently, then moved to the towel I was clutching tightly. His long fingers tightened slightly, and I held on tightly, not daring to move.

Jiang Mingzhuo said calmly, "It's been delayed."

I snapped awake instantly, filled with terror. If this was a dream, I wished it would end soon... I closed my eyes, but I couldn't stop those hands from caressing my body, like snake tongues. I bit my lip, desperately trying to wake myself from the nightmare.

My eyelids were slowly kissed, and Jiang Mingzhuo pressed his lips to my ear, his tone dangerously raised: "Dare to run again?"

I was burning up with fever and my whole body ached. I didn't dare open my eyes. Jiang Mingzhuo's voice was pleasant, but it was just as awful as I remembered.

"I'm asking you a question, are you going to run away or not?"

I didn't speak. He held me in his arms and fanned the flames everywhere. My mind was hazy. I could feel his cool hands. My whole body was trembling. I let out a low sob. Slow down, I can't take it anymore... I prayed that the nightmare would end soon.

The force that had been holding me so tightly seemed to lessen a little, and then I felt someone kiss my forehead, and the tears that were falling were slowly swallowed away.

"Okay, then I'll play with you a little longer."

Suddenly, everything went quiet. I opened my eyes for the last time and saw that the darkness in Jiang Mingzhuo's eyes was getting deeper and deeper. He stroked my forehead and after a while, he gave a slightly cold smile.

When I woke up again, it was already daylight. I was instantly terrified. I got out of bed barefoot and nervously looked around the room. There was no one in the kitchen, bedroom, or bathroom. The only sound was the muffled hum of the air conditioner that had been running all night.

Am I really dreaming? A huge panic swept over me, and I felt cold sweat all over my back. I looked down at myself and saw that I was wearing a floral nightgown, but I clearly remembered that I had just taken a shower... I rushed back to my room, and the bath towel that should have fallen on the floor was neatly folded and placed in the closet.

The room was at a comfortable temperature, neither too hot nor too cold. I opened the window and saw a black Rolls-Royce disappear around the corner. Wisps of cool air seeped in through the window cracks, giving me a slight headache.

After letting the room ventilate for a while, I closed the window again. Before going into the bathroom, I took a special look at my body. It was slender, clear, and without any abnormalities.

Maybe I'm under too much pressure, or maybe I should see a therapist.

I squeezed out a pump of shampoo and carefully washed my sweaty hair. After leaving the bathroom, I changed into a white knit sweater and light blue jeans. Just as I was having breakfast, my phone rang.

The new information comes from Ye Fenglin.

He told me to go find him, and I was overjoyed, understanding that this meant the "deal" would continue. Ignoring my headache, I quickly gathered my waist-length black hair into a bun, applied some lip gloss, and set off with my coat and scarf.

On the way, I hesitated between going to his apartment or to the school to find him, but our relationship was not that close. After thinking about it, I finally took the subway to Imperial University.

Ye Fenglin was a well-known and popular figure at the school. I only inquired a little and found out that he had a professional class and that he just needed to wait at the entrance of the law school after class.

There is a very eye-catching sculpture at the entrance of the law school, and the school buildings behind it are also quite unique. Unlike the classical buildings in the school, the law school buildings are mainly made of glass curtain walls, and the exterior looks high-end and simple. Students are coming and going to class.

Imperial University's law school is renowned, producing almost all members of the Imperial State government cabinet, presidential advisors, finance ministers, and elite lawyers. It's not surprising that Ye Fenglin, whose father is a top lawyer, would follow the same path. However, I simply cannot reconcile his usually carefree and unruly demeanor with that of a well-dressed, mature lawyer.

Just then, I saw Xie Yong and his classmates walking towards me from the building opposite the oval square.

The two buildings were not far apart. As I walked up the steps, Xie Yong could see me at a glance. I was very embarrassed and quickly turned around and went into the college building.

I hid behind a pillar and watched Xie Yong leave down the corridor, then breathed a slight sigh of relief.

Waiting here was indeed a bit boring, and on top of that, I had a terrible headache and my head was spinning. I wanted to go to a nearby shop to buy an iced coffee to perk myself up, but my body seemed to be out of control. I couldn't even hear the students passing by discussing last night's rugby game.

My eyelids felt heavy, and my vision began to blur. I started to hesitate about whether it was more important to buy coffee or fever reducers first.

"Jiang Fu?" someone called my name.

I lifted my eyelids and saw the man's silhouette. He was very tall and wore a long coat, but it didn't overshadow his long legs. He was dressed in expensive clothes and shoes, and was very handsome and dashing, exuding an air of wealth.

Is that Ye Fenglin? I wondered groggily. The man had already reached out and tentatively touched my forehead. It seemed to be burned by the temperature. I heard him complain in a low voice, "You're sick and you still run out. Couldn't you have said something?"

He moved slightly closer to me, and I couldn't control my clumsy and unruly body. My eyelashes fluttered, and I leaned against him, my vision blurry.

My body suddenly felt light, as if I had been picked up. I instinctively raised my hand and wrapped it around his neck.

Footsteps could be heard from the side.

I heard the person holding me say that.

"Sorry, Brother Yong. She's here to see me."
