Chapter 13
Wen Chuqing keenly sensed that Jiang Minghua's mood was off. She slightly turned her head, soft strands of hair slipping from her shoulder. Her almond-shaped eyes, so similar to Jiang Mingjia's, were filled with confusion.
"Minghua?" she asked softly, her voice filled with deep concern, "What's wrong?"
Jiang Minghua's heart clenched violently at that moment, as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand. She took a deep breath without making a sound, forcing herself to look away from the face that resembled that of an old friend. Her slender fingers naturally brushed the stray hairs at her temples, and then gently wiped away the moisture that hadn't yet fallen from the corner of her eye.
"It's nothing." She offered a perfectly timed smile, her voice so steady it betrayed no flaw.
How is Grandma doing lately?
“The doctor said Grandma’s condition has stabilized a lot, which is a good sign.” Wen Chuqing’s eyebrows relaxed, her gratitude overflowing. “Minghua, thank you. If it weren’t for the medical expenses you fought for for me, Grandma’s treatment would probably have been interrupted.”
Jiang Minghua nodded, her gaze casually sweeping over the "Jiang's Medical" sign on the hospital wall. Before leaving the hospital, she took out her phone and dialed a number. Sure enough, shortly after hanging up, a middle-aged man in a white coat rushed into the lobby, fine beads of sweat on his forehead. He immediately recognized Jiang Minghua standing in the center of the lobby. Although she was wearing a faded school uniform, her posture was upright, and her demeanor was outstanding, making her a striking figure among the passing crowd.
"Ms. Jiang, what brings you here? Are you here to help Mr. Jiang inspect the business?" The person in charge steadied his rapid breathing and asked respectfully.
"No, my friend's grandmother is hospitalized in our hospital, and I want to upgrade her medical resources, nursing team, and top-notch attending physician."
"Of course, of course." The person in charge nodded repeatedly and quickly wrote down Grandma Wen Chuqing's name.
Stepping out of the hospital, the afternoon sun was a bit too bright, and Jiang Minghua squinted slightly. Just then, the system's voice rang in her ears.
Are you being so nice to her because of her face?
Jiang Minghua didn't answer, but subconsciously clenched her fists. The system was right; every time she saw Wen Chuqing, she felt as if she were seeing Jiang Mingjia.
"However, I also like her face." The system's voice, returned from repair, held an unusual gentleness. "I was thinking, if I were human, my face would probably look like this too."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Minghua frowned.
The system was behaving very strangely today, rambling on about many seemingly unrelated things:
Oh, by the way, I haven't told you my codename yet. Mine is a plus sign.
Before the words were finished, a piercing alarm suddenly blared, so sharp it almost shattered eardrums. The plus sign stopped abruptly, as if forcibly severed by some invisible force, leaving only a rapid static.
Amidst the chaos, Jiang Minghua faintly heard a familiar voice that made her heart flutter; the voice was gentle and ethereal:
【Ah Hua, are you happy now?】
These mere eight words sent a shiver down Jiang Minghua's spine, and tears instantly welled up in her eyes, silently streaming down her cheeks. She bit her lower lip hard, trying to suppress the surging sorrow in her chest, but she couldn't control her slightly trembling hands.
"Is it you..." she choked up, almost asking the question buried deep in her heart: Is the plus sign Jiang Mingjia?
Just then, the cold, hard voice of the 00X system cut into her mind, interrupting her thoughts.
[Host, it's best not to ask questions you're unsure about; it's better for both of us.]
Jiang Minghua's breath hitched. Before she could respond, 00X continued in that emotionless electronic voice:
[While the plus sign system has its flaws, at least it still exists. However, some truths, once revealed, could cause everything to vanish completely. Please consider this carefully.]
These words were both a stern warning and a subtle hint of protection for the plus sign.
Jiang Minghua stood there, letting the still-damp tears on her face gradually cool. Although she didn't get a direct answer, it only strengthened her suspicions.
