Bai Xue put on a very good performance at the meal, and Li Shi watched with a smile on her face. It was a happy ending for everyone.
Before Bai Xue had finished eating, Li Mantian returned with a solemn expression, followed by Li Wenyi, who seemed to have lost his soul and whose face was pale.
Ye Shuang focused her gaze and saw the black mist surrounding Li Wenyi. What was going on? He had only gone to offer incense, so why did he bring back such a thick wisp of resentment? Only someone who had died a violent death could have such a thing.
"Brother, hug me!" Ye Shuang smiled and opened her arms to Li Wenyi. Her sweet, childlike voice was so clear and adorable that even the absent-minded Li Wenyi couldn't bear to refuse.
The warm little body was like a little sun, dispelling the gloom in Li Wenyi's heart. He still couldn't believe that what he had just seen was really the honest and kind Uncle Wang. The broken body, the scattered bloodstains, the pieces of flesh that couldn't be pieced back together, and the head that only had half a face left, and the blank stare in the eyes, seemed to still retain the fear of death...
What kind of ferocious beast could reduce a living person to less than a third of their original body?
Ye Shuang felt Li Wenyi's grip tightening, hugged his neck, patted his back gently, used her spiritual power to drive away the resentment, and then looked pitifully at Li Mantian: "Father, brother is hurting me."
Even though there wasn't a single tear in Ye Shuang's eyes, Li Mantian walked a few steps to Li Wenyi's side with a pained expression, patted him hard on the back, and brought him back from his reverie. He then reached out and took Ye Shuang in his arms: "Shuang'er, be good, it doesn't hurt! Daddy will hug you."
Li Wenyi was frightened, which is why he was haunted by resentment. Li Mantian is full of righteousness, so resentment probably wouldn't dare to get close to him. However, even so, Ye Shuang still attached a trace of spiritual energy to Li Mantian. This spiritual energy was a deterrent to those resentful spirits that were no match for him. It seems that Uncle Wang encountered something that was not an ordinary beast. This spiritual energy was also a warning to that beast: if it dared to harm Li Mantian and Li Wenyi, it would suffer a fate worse than death!
With Ye Shuang's spiritual energy present, even though Li Wenyi was frightened again, he still spent the night peacefully without having any nightmares.
The next morning, Ye Shuang was sitting in the courtyard cultivating, wrapped in a thick cotton-padded coat, with Bai Xue basking in the rare spiritual energy at her feet. Just as she was enjoying the peaceful morning, a cacophony of screams and noises came from outside.
What's going on now? This little village is always so restless? Having her cultivation interrupted, Ye Shuang couldn't help but feel a sense of irritation.
After a night's rest, Li Wenyi had recovered his usual energy and went to help out early in the morning. After all, Uncle Wang had taken good care of him over the years. However, he entered the room looking rather disheveled, with his hair in disarray and a piece of his clothes torn.
Li raised an eyebrow: "What's wrong with you? I asked you to help, not to fight."
Li Wenyi looked miserable and aggrieved: "Mother, I didn't. It was Aunt Wang. I don't know what happened last night, but she woke up this morning shouting and crying, saying that Uncle Wang died with his eyes open and that someone killed him!"
Li paused, her heart sinking. This was bad. She glanced at Li Wenyi and said, "Why aren't you going back to your room to pack? What are you standing here for?"
