Chapter 100: Want to settle down in the county town?

Standing at the entrance was a man dressed in a light blue robe with a light veil over it, clearly from a wealthy family. Beside him was a girl, the one who had just tripped and fallen at the market.

“Brother, my name is Yuwen Leng, and this is my sister Yuwen Ling. My sister and I came here to see the Lantern Festival but were unable to book a room in advance. We wonder if we could borrow your room so we could watch the lantern parade together? Don’t worry, we will cover half the cost of the room.”

Ma Rencai glanced back at Li Wenyi, and seeing him nod slightly, he opened the door and let them in: "It is fate that we meet, there is no need to be so polite, please have a seat."

Once everyone was seated, Ye Shuang calmly turned her back to them, as if she hadn't heard anyone come in.

However, Li Wenyi didn't care. Not everyone could receive his courtesy, especially someone like this who approached him with an ulterior motive: "How many days have you two been here? There are many fun places in the county. It would be a pity to miss out on this opportunity to come all this way."

Yuwen sneered and said, "We've been here for three or four days now, and we've basically explored all the other interesting places. I've heard that the newly appointed magistrate here is dedicated to serving the people and has many effective methods. The people here are truly blessed."

Li Wenyi smiled slightly, not admitting that he was the county magistrate, but simply nodded and said, "What you all say is right. It's just a pity that no matter how fun it is, it's still just a small county town. After the Lantern Festival, there's nothing fun left."

“Hey, brother, you’re mistaken. This place is beautiful, with clear waters and lush mountains, and the people live in peace and contentment. It’s a hundred times better than the human tragedies we’ve witnessed along the way. It’s like a paradise on earth. If we could, my brother and I would love to settle here.” Before Li Wenyi could finish speaking, Yuwen Leng interrupted him, praising him with a beaming smile.

"This county welcomes everyone," Ma Rencai said gently, then looked at Yuwen Ling. "The young lady just ran away; I didn't even have a chance to ask if she's alright."

Yuwen Ling immediately blushed and shook her head repeatedly, saying, "It's nothing, thank you for your concern, young master."

Yuwen Leng glanced at Yuwen Ling, chuckled, and said, "Thank you for your concern, young master. My sister is good in every way, except that she can be a bit eccentric at times. I heard she even caused a bit of a laughing stock? I'm so sorry to have troubled you two brothers."

"Oh~ so you're the sister who just fell down on the street!" Ye Shuang turned around, revealing her innocent and naive smile, which pierced her heart again. "How could you suddenly fall down? Are you still in pain, sister? I heard you fall from upstairs, and it sounded like you fell pretty hard! Even if you're not in pain, you should still see a doctor. It would be terrible if you fell down in a place that you can't see."

Ye Shuang's four or five falls struck Yuwen Ling squarely at the heartstrings. As one of the best in the family, she had never been mocked like this, whether openly or subtly. Her face darkened completely, and she couldn't help but shout back, "I was tripped by someone else!"

Ye Shuang suddenly realized, then turned her head back to look at the lanterns downstairs without a care.

Ma Rencai raised an eyebrow slightly. The only person nearby who could trip her was him. This girl, even if she didn't want to be laughed at, shouldn't have lied! However, he didn't say anything, only his attitude turned a little colder.
