Chapter 487 Dilemma

Fu Jingheng frowned slightly, took Qin Sheng's hand, and nodded to the Shadow Guard leader: "Send two Shadow Guards skilled in reconnaissance to scout ahead, the rest of you keep your distance and follow."

The Shadow Guard leader responded and quickly made the arrangements.

Taking advantage of this moment, Fu Jingheng turned his head and instructed, "Let them investigate. Try not to use your mental power for now."

Qin Sheng glanced at him and nodded: "Mm."

Fu Jingheng and Qin Sheng's group entered through an entrance to an undeveloped area, so there were hardly any signs of human presence. As their group continued to venture deeper into the area, they barely saw any insects or animals.

All I could hear was the howling of the wind, especially in the narrow passages, where the wind was so strong it seemed like it could blow people into the sky.

Fu Jingheng gripped Qin Sheng's wrist tightly.

Qin Sheng tried to move a couple of times but couldn't break free, so she let her have her way.

As the group ventured deeper into the territory, Qin Sheng obediently refrained from using his mental power. Instead, he relied on his heightened senses and familiarity with Su Jiu to determine the direction and occasionally offer suggestions.

Time passed second by second, and in the biting wind, everyone's nerves tightened without them even realizing it, and they didn't dare to blink more than a few times.

Just then, Fu Jingheng, who was being protected by two groups of shadow guards, suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Qin Sheng's brow twitched slightly, and she stopped as well.

The wind still howled, but this time, there were some different sounds in the wind.

Everyone pressed their ears to the ground or held their breath, all listening intently to the sounds carried here by the wind.

"Boss, we've been keeping watch for a day and a night, but they still won't come out. Are we really going to keep guarding them like this?"

"Yeah, why don't we just charge in? We have over eighty people here, and they only have fifteen or sixteen left at most, including a cripple and a woman. One against six or seven, surely we can take them down?"

"What are you talking about? Have you forgotten what happened before? Yesterday, we were almost wiped out by them. Haven't we learned our lesson yet?"

"That woman was too cunning and audacious. She actually dared to use herself as bait. We were careless and fell into her trap. If she dares to do it again, I'll make her pay!"

"Hehehe, you said the same thing yesterday, right? And what happened? If the boss hadn't reacted quickly and pulled you back, would you still be standing here bragging right now?"

"No way! We were just talking about whether or not to rush in, how did we end up dragging me into this? What's wrong with you? We're all men, who hasn't been driven by lust and lost their senses at times? You have the nerve to criticize me?!"

"At least we won't make such a fundamental mistake at this crucial moment. You were saved, but who's to blame for the other dozen or so brothers who died? Those people or you?!"

"I think you're just looking for trouble, aren't you? How about we have a go at it first?!"

"..."

As the argument escalated, the man in the lead, whose face bore a scar that ran from the corner of his right eye down to his jaw, grew increasingly grim.

Finally, he gave a cold snort: "Shut up, all of you!"

The argument suddenly stopped.

The two men, who were arguing the most and almost came to blows, glared at each other and obediently lowered their sleeves, which were already rolled up to their arms, and called out in a deep voice, "Boss."

The scarred man glanced at the two men and sneered, "Say one more word and I'll shoot you both dead."

The two dared not speak anymore, and lowered their heads like quails.

The scarred man then looked away.

His gaze lingered on the narrow opening not far away for a long time. Finally, he pressed his temples and said helplessly, "Quinnie is right, we can't go in."

"Don't underestimate this group. Back then, we had more than 700 people who went to besiege the project site. Even if some of them were sent away, there were still nearly 300 people chasing Fu Jingyuan."

"But along the way, some died, some were injured, and some were scattered. Now there are only eighty-odd of us left. Although Kanji was wrong first about that woman, we have to admit that the other party is very cunning and clever. Nobody knows how deep this cave is or how many traps they have set up inside."

"If we make any more rash moves, we could all end up in this mess!"

"What can we do then? Just wait like this? What if they get reinforcements or China sends soldiers to rescue them? We still won't be able to do anything about them then!" the man named Kanji said anxiously.

The scarred man, Halik, snorted and said nonchalantly, "Not to mention how eerie this Devil City is, news can't get out at all. Even if someone did come, they'd have a hard time finding our current location. What's there to be afraid of?"

"Even if they're lucky enough to find us, they're not as familiar with the terrain as we are. It would be easy for us to escape. And if given the chance, it's not impossible for us to take down the people on the other side!"

That seems to be true.

Halik glanced at his men and, seeing that they had quieted down again, breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Don't worry, it's been a whole day. They ran out without food or warm clothes, they won't last long."

"Wait another half day, until dawn tomorrow. If they still don't come out, we'll storm in. I don't believe we can't take them down!"

"At that time, we will not only be able to stop their messy development projects, but also get a lot of money. After that, everyone can do whatever they want!"

Upon hearing the word "money," everyone perked up and immediately quieted down.

Halik nodded in satisfaction, then snuggled back into his military overcoat and closed his eyes to rest.

at the same time.

In the shadows at the edge of a cave not far from Halik and the others, a thin, small figure waited for a few minutes without any further movement, then immediately crouched down and silently ran back.

They walked along the cave wall, moving very quietly, so that no one outside noticed that anyone had been there and had overheard their entire conversation.

The small, thin figure quickly returned to a corner of the cave and immediately went forward to report what he had heard verbatim.

Fu Jingyuan remained seated in his wheelchair, listening quietly without making a sound, only looking down at the woman in his arms.

The woman's once stunningly beautiful face was now deathly pale, her eyes tightly closed, as she lay quietly in Fu Jingyuan's arms.

He's completely lost his usual capricious and dramatic demeanor.

Fu Jingyuan, however, did not feel quiet at all. Instead, he felt as if something was missing, and his heart felt empty.

Especially since warm liquid kept sliding down his thighs as he held the woman, as if silently taking something away.
