"mom!"
Xiang Pengfei shouted into the microphone again, but all he heard was a dial tone.
Xiang Pengfei was stunned for a moment before slowly putting down the microphone, walking out of the office, getting into a car in the heavy rain, and going home to apologize.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Tunan watched as the sky grew darker and darker, as if it were about to rain. Just as he was getting worried, Huang Ling and Zhuang Chaoying came out of the alley. Huang Ling said, "Tunan! It looks like it's going to rain. You should go back first! Your dad and I will take care of things here!"
Zhuang Tunan said, "No, Mom, let me help you! Besides, it hasn't rained yet."
"Don't be silly, the rain doesn't give you any warning, it just starts raining. Go back now!"
Zhuang Tunan ignored Huang Ling's advice and began tidying up the martial arts novels beside the wire bed.
Zhuang Chaoying pushed the tricycle next to the wire bed, then put the martial arts novel on the tricycle, preparing to push it into the yard.
Huang Ling then tidied up the newspapers and magazines hanging on the newsstand.
Just then, Zhang Min ran out again, carrying some plastic sheeting. She said to Huang Ling, "Auntie, let's cover it with plastic sheeting first! It might rain again!"
Just then, a voice came and said, "Teacher Zhuang, do you still have the People's Daily, Suzhou Daily, and Suzhou Morning Post?"
Zhuang Chaoying turned her head and saw that it was Teacher Yu who had come a few days ago. She quickly said, "Teacher Yu, it looks like it's going to rain. Why did you come again?"
Teacher Yu said, "Sigh, isn't it because school is about to start? I had some materials to organize, and I got so busy that I forgot about the time, so I came to pick up the newspaper now!"
"Oh, the morning paper might be gone, but the other two might still be available!"
"That's fine, that's fine too. Recently, national policies have been changing rapidly, almost daily. If you don't read the newspaper every day, you won't know which direction the country is heading!"
"Yes, yes, Teacher Yu is right. The country is developing rapidly, and policy is the key, isn't it?"
As they were talking, Zhuang Chaoying handed Teacher Yu a newspaper. Just as the newspaper was handed to Teacher Yu, a large raindrop landed on his face. Before he could even speak, the rain started pouring down.
Fortunately, Zhang Min and Zhuang Tunan were quick and had already loaded the books onto the car and covered them with plastic film.
Huang Ling's place only had a few newspapers wet; it didn't cause much damage.
In the heavy rain, Zhang Min pushed the tricycle into the alley, with Zhuang Tunan behind her, helping to push the tricycle with one hand and moving the wheelchair with the other.
Then Huang Ling finished tidying up outside and was sorting through the magazines that had gotten wet in the pavilion.
Zhuang Chaoying looked again at Teacher Yu, who hadn't gone far. He was hunched over, stuffing the newspaper into his clothes, and walking forward with a slippery gait, looking pitiful.
Zhuang Chaoying walked to the entrance of the newsstand and said to Huang Ling, "Huang Ling, please get me an umbrella from inside!"
Huang Ling looked up at Zhuang Chaoying and asked, "Where are you going?"
Zhuang Chaoying quickly pointed at Teacher Yu and said, "Look at Teacher Yu, how pitiful he is, he's getting old!"
Huang Ling nodded and said, "Go! Take him home, and drive carefully, okay?"
"Um!"
Zhuang Chaoying took the umbrella from Huang Ling and strode towards Teacher Yu.
By this time, Huang Ling had almost finished packing up the magazines, so she closed the newsstand door and locked it with an iron lock.
When Huang Ling entered the yard and saw the tricycle covered with plastic, she felt uneasy, so she added a wooden board on top before she felt at ease and went into the house.
As soon as she entered the room, she saw Zhang Min wiping Zhuang Tunan's hair, and she was doing it very carefully, which made Huang Ling blush.
Zhang Min blushed when she saw Huang Ling and said, "This rain came down so suddenly, it's soaked. Tu Nan is having trouble moving around, so I'm wiping the rain off his head so he won't catch a cold!"
Huang Ling also took a towel and dried her hair, then said, "Xiao Min, let me do it! You should go back and tidy yourself up too, like you said, don't catch a cold!"
Zhang Min nodded and said, "Auntie, I'll go back now?"
"Um!"
After watching Zhang Min leave, Huang Ling asked Zhuang Tunan, "Do you need me to help you change your clothes?"
Zhuang Tunan quickly said, "No need, Mom!"
Huang Ling walked to the wardrobe, put Tu Nan's clothes on the bed, and then said to him, "Then change your clothes yourself! I'm going next door, call me if you need anything!"
"Okay, Mom!"
After Huang Ling left, Zhuang Tunan changed into clean clothes. Just as he was about to tidy up his wet clothes, someone at the door said, "Tunan, may I come in?"
Upon hearing his aunt's voice, Zhuang Tunan quickly said, "Aunt, come in quickly! It's raining outside! Don't catch a cold!"
As soon as Zhuang Hualin entered the room, he saw Zhuang Tunan sitting in a wheelchair. With tears in his eyes, Zhuang Hualin asked, "Tunan, what happened to your leg?"
Zhuang Tunan smiled, pretending nothing was wrong, and said, "I'm fine! Everything's great!"
"Pengfei said that he's the one who caused your leg injury?"
Zhuang Tunan quickly spoke up for Xiang Pengfei, saying, "Auntie, you can't blame Pengfei entirely. I was on the night shift, and he happened to be at the construction site. I thought he was a thief or something, so I chased after him. I didn't expect to fall into the pit and break both my legs!"
"He was at the construction site where you were on duty. You broke your leg while chasing after him, all because of him, Tu Nan. I'm so sorry, Tu Nan!"
Zhuang Hualin suddenly knelt down in front of Zhuang Tunan's wheelchair and burst into tears.
Zhuang Tunan tried to help his aunt up, but he couldn't stand up, so he shouted towards the wall, "Mom, Mom, my aunt is here!"
A short while later, Huang Ling rushed over from next door in a panic. As soon as she saw Zhuang Hualin kneeling in front of Zhuang Tunan, she hurriedly went to help Zhuang Hualin up, saying, "Hualin, Hualin. You mustn't! You mustn't! He's a junior, how can you kneel before him?"
As soon as Huang Ling helped Zhuang Hualin up, Zhuang Hualin burst into tears and looked at Huang Ling, saying, "I'm so sorry, sister-in-law. Our Pengfei has caused Tu Nan to become like this. We are sinners! I'm so sorry, Tu Nan!"
Huang Ling comforted Zhuang Hualin, saying, "It's too late to blame anyone now that things have come to this. We can only accept the facts. Don't be too sad. Although Pengfei made a mistake, he was trying to help Tu Nan's girlfriend. He didn't want this to happen!"
“But Tu Nan did this because he was pursuing Peng Fei. Sister-in-law, I have no face to see you anymore. I will take Peng Fei back to the countryside right now. We will give Tu Nan the house, the company, and the car here so that he can live a good life.”
Zhuang Tunan hurriedly said, "No, Aunt, I don't want a single penny. Pengfei endured so much hardship to save every single penny. How could I possibly take his things and money!"
With tears streaming down her face, Zhuang Hualin said, "Tu Nan, if you don't accept it, how can your aunt ever face you again? Do you want your aunt to feel guilty for the rest of her life?"
"Aunt, you don't need to feel guilty. We're family. I don't hate Pengfei either. After all, he was trying to help Li Jia, my girlfriend. Otherwise, this wouldn't have happened!"
"But my aunt can't get over it!"
Just then, Zhuang Chaoying's voice came from outside the door, saying, "Come in! What are you doing standing outside in the rain? You're soaked to the bone. If you don't come inside soon, the rain will flood you!"
The door opened immediately, and Zhuang Chaoying and Xiang Pengfei's father entered.
Huang Ling looked at the soaking wet Xiang Dong and said, "Uncle, why aren't you coming in? You're all wet, like you just took a shower!"
At this moment, Xiang Dong's face was covered in water, whether it was tears or rain, it was hard to tell. He sighed and said, "Alas, I have no face to see Tu Nan! I don't know what sins I committed to give birth to such a son. He doesn't know how to repay kindness and even broke his cousin's leg. How can my wife and I face Tu Nan?"
