Chapter 17 Farewell

She took out the leeks and eggs, made a full bowl of leek and egg pancakes, mixed a bowl of shredded vegetables, washed a few green onions, coriander and cabbage leaves, fried an egg sauce, and took out a plate of pickled cucumbers made by Wei's mother. She couldn't accept eating raw green onions and lettuce with sauce, but her elder and second brothers liked it very much.

As soon as the aroma of leek and egg pancakes wafted out, the people working in the yard became distracted. It was so fragrant that their stomachs were rumbling and they couldn't concentrate on their work.

"Is our sister's cooking so delicious?"

Wei Qingshan glanced at Wu Da who was speaking with a half-smile, which made the hairs on his back stand up. Then he sneered: "Who is your sister? She is my sister!"

Wu Da was speechless. He was really impressed by this sister complex. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to have more brothers to love you? When your sister gets married, she can get an extra dowry.

"Get lost! My sister is only a little girl, why would she get married? Can't she find a husband in the future?"

Wu Da covered his mouth with his hand and started to laugh foolishly. The game was over, why did he blurt out what was in his heart?

Gu Zhan was washing his hands slowly when he suddenly saw a gray face towel in front of him. He looked up and met the little girl's sparkling eyes: "Brother Zhan, wipe your face, it's clean."

A smile flashed across Gu Zhan's expressionless eyes. He reached out to take it. The big and small pair accidentally touched each other. Wei Ci only felt a tinnitus for a moment. Before she woke up, a big hand appeared and snatched the towel away. A big bronze hand also appeared on the little girl's head, turning her around and pulling her away from Gu Zhan.

"Aci, be good. He doesn't need a towel. Go wash your face first. You're all sweaty from cooking."

Putting the towel on Wei Ci's head, Wei Qingfeng pushed her into her own boudoir and closed the door.

He remembered that their sister Ah Ci had the bad habit of wanting to bring any good-looking man she met back home. This Gu Zhan was even more handsome than that police officer. Although it was common for rural girls to get married at the age of fifteen or sixteen, he couldn't let his sister find a partner so early. She had to be at least twenty, right?

Gu Zhan withdrew his hand expressionlessly, glanced at the back of Wei Qingfeng's head, lowered his eyelids and began to continue his previous action slowly.

Wei Qingfeng felt a chill on the back of his neck. He turned his head to look at Gu Zhan and greeted him with a smile: "Don't mind, Uncle Gu. Your niece is just too enthusiastic. I don't know that you soldiers don't like to use other people's things."

Uncle Gu? Little niece?

Gu Zhan, who was only 23 years old and in his prime, touched his face doubtfully for the first time. Did he look that old? Glancing at Wei Qingfeng, who was smiling maliciously, Gu Zhan turned around calmly: "I don't mind, nephew."

Wei Qingfeng's smile froze. Being called "nephew" by a man only four years older than him was truly unpleasant. He'd been careless. ???!

Wei Ci looked at her hands, thinking she was hallucinating, and walked out of the main room with a confused look on her face.

"Sister, your cooking is so delicious!"

The whole table was filled with food, including a large pot of corn grits porridge, but not a single kernel of corn was left.

Wei Ci pursed her lips in embarrassment. Just as she was about to reach out to clean up the dishes, she was stopped by someone. Gu Zhan stood up and took the dishes from her hand, then pushed her down to sit on a chair. "We'll take care of the rest. You take a rest."

As he said this, he kicked Wu Da under the table, signaling him not to sit there motionless after eating.

"Yes! We can clean it up, you take a rest, sister."

Wu Da touched his short flat head, his small fangs sparkling as he smiled, and he cleaned up the dishes with nimble hands and feet, then pulled the other two comrades to the kitchen.

Before Wei Ci could say anything, Gu Zhan raised his eyebrows. It seemed that he was the oldest and was the uncle, while the others were brothers.

"Aci, Qingfeng, we don't have much vacation time left and we still have to go back to hand in our missions. Do you two have any plans for the future?"

Wei Qingfeng felt a little discouraged when talking about this. There had been a lot of commotion in the school recently. One of his teachers was dragged out of the office by people wearing red armbands and never came back. The teachers were afraid to teach and the students had no intention of studying. The school had become a sensitive place.

"Brother, I got my high school diploma. I want to stay in the village and be a scorekeeper or accountant so I can take care of Ah Ci."

The accountant in the village was old and had difficulty reading the account books. He originally wanted to pass the position to his grandson, but the grandson looked down on him and wanted to find a job in a big city. So he directly exchanged his job in the county for this accounting job and received 300 yuan in compensation.

Wei Ci was surprised. She didn't expect that her second brother would sell his job.

Wei Qingshan was not surprised. He could understand his brother's idea. If he couldn't get into university and couldn't go out, he might as well stay in the village and take care of Aci. After all, his sister was getting more and more beautiful, and he had to protect her well.

Wei Ci raised her hand to protest, but was ignored by both brothers. They all had a ready excuse: "You're still young, don't overthink it."

Wei Ci:……

That night, Wei Ci received the passbook from her eldest brother. She looked up at her eldest brother's gentle and tolerant face and said, "Brother..."

Wei Qingshan rubbed the little girl's shiny black hair and smiled dotingly: "I'm sorry, Ah Ci. I'm your eldest brother, but I can't stay by your side to protect and take care of you and Qingfeng. This is your savings. I will send half of my allowance back in the future. You should eat and drink as you please, and buy yourself some new clothes as a little girl."

The reason why they only sent half was because there was an unwritten agreement in their team that they would take out half of their allowance and divide it into several parts to send to families whose comrades died, leaving behind only their mothers and children. He was in the army and the government provided him with food and drink, so he didn't have to spend any money.
