Chapter 19: Catch Them All

Wei Ci curiously glanced at the large, neatly written propaganda characters on the wall, her little head turning around to take in the surroundings.

This is the county town, which doesn't look as prosperous as a town in the Dayong Dynasty. It is gray everywhere. The only blue brick courtyard seen seems to have suffered some kind of blow and has become dilapidated.

"Don't look at it. That family used to be landlords. They were overthrown during the class division. Their property was confiscated and their house was demolished. The people inside were either dead or fled."

During the vigorous campaign to fight against landlords, it was impossible to tell who was who. Everyone rushed in to smash, loot and rob, and in the end, only this broken yard was left.

Wei Ci was surprised. He had enjoyed a life of luxury in the Great Yong Dynasty, but how could a landlord like Tian Lao Da and his second son be so miserable here? Not only was his land confiscated, but his family was also completely robbed.

"Don't think too much. Let's go. Second brother will take you to buy something nice. Big brother has left his passbook to us."

Wei Ci was protected by her second brother and squeezed into the supply and marketing cooperative with great difficulty. Her braids were messed up, her little face was red and sweaty, but her eyes were surprisingly bright.

"What do you want to buy?"

Wei Ci looked up at the wide variety of goods, and pointed with her slender little hand towards the fabric counter. She and her second brother didn't have many clothes. It was almost late autumn, and all the clothes in the house had been worn by the second and third wives. She didn't want to wear them at all, and felt very uncomfortable.

Wei Qingfeng nodded and pulled Wei Ci to the fabric counter.

"Comrade, give me five feet of the yellow floral one, and five feet of the gray cotton one. Is this woolen material?"

Wei Ci was distracted for a moment, her attention attracted by the paper clips flying above her head. Her eyes were filled with surprise, and when she turned around, she saw several neatly folded pieces of cloth in her second brother's arms.

"Brother, did you buy too much?"

Wei Qingfeng didn't care: "A lot? Not much. You don't have many clothes that can be worn. Make a couple more. You're still growing."

Wei Ci couldn't stop him and could only be pulled by Wei Qingfeng as they squeezed through the crowd. Candy? A few pounds, egg cakes? A few pounds! Wei Ci stared at her second brother's crazy purchasing power in amazement, feeling inferior to him.

She always thought that shopping and spending money was a woman's hobby, but it turns out that men can also spend money so crazily.

The brother and sister squeezed out of the supply and marketing cooperative with their arms full of loot. When they came out, they breathed a sigh of relief and broke out in sweat. They looked at each other and laughed.

"Let's go and get the stuff onto the tractor first."

Wei Qingfeng was going to school to get his diploma, so Wei Ci sat obediently on the tractor waiting for him to come back.

"Don't run around. What if you run into human traffickers again? I'll be back as soon as I get my diploma."

Wei Qingfeng was also helpless. There were too many things and someone had to stay to look after them. He couldn't leave his sister by his side. He was worried and could only speed up and go and come back early.

Wei Ci smiled and waved her hand, indicating that she could handle it alone. She still had a little bit of knockout drug on her, so if she couldn't win, she could just use the drug.

A white and tender little hand reached out to Li Ruhai. He was rubbing the tobacco and was startled. He looked up from the hand and met the little girl's sparkling eyes. His heart softened for no reason and his tone softened: "I don't want to eat it. You can keep it for yourself."

Wei Ci shook her head, stuffed two mung bean cakes into his hands, and sat back down, chewing the cakes slowly with a very happy expression.

Li Ruhai laughed and wrapped the two mung bean cakes in oil paper wrapped with tobacco and put them in his pocket. What did a rough man like him eat? He just took them back to give to that bad boy. After all, he was the greedy one and loved these small cakes and candies the most.

Wei Ci had no objection to how others dealt with the things she gave away. She had given away two pieces because she felt embarrassed to eat them alone, and now that she had given them to others, they were theirs.

Just as the two were silently doing their own things, screams for help suddenly came from the alley next to them.

“Help!”

A girl's scream was heard from the alley beside him, followed by a woman with her clothes torn into pieces, who tried to run out in a panic, but was pulled back by a strong hand. Screams, screams, and cries for help were heard everywhere.

Wei Ci changed her hand to a piece of egg cake and started chewing on it. There were crumbs on the corner of her mouth. She glanced over there, then turned back and continued chewing the egg cake as if nothing had happened.

Well, this egg cake is well made, with just the right sweetness, soft and delicious, without the fishy smell of eggs, but with a strong milky flavor, so delicious!

Li Ruhai glanced into the alley, frowned, listened to the increasingly shrill screams, and turned to look at the soft and delicate little girl.

"Stay in the car and don't move. I'll go take a look."

Wei Ci raised an eyebrow, glanced at the "crime" scene where they had been struggling for almost an incense stick of time but still hadn't succeeded in taking off a single piece of clothing, and then withdrew her gaze with disgust.

It's really disgusting. She doesn't even know how to find a professional actor. She grew up surrounded by actors and can tell whether something is real or fake at a glance.

"Uncle Hai, be careful, what if this is a trap?"

Li Ruhai nodded, looked around worriedly, and made sure that it was safe for the little girl to stay here. Then he got out of the car and walked over slowly, looking very relaxed.

Wei Ci watched him enter the alley, and glanced at a few men who had been squatting silently in the blind corner behind her. She couldn't help rolling her eyes. What were these people thinking by trying to lure the tiger away from the mountain in the busy street?

"Wei Ci?"

Wei Ci patted the crumbs in her hands, stood in the truck bed and looked down at the approaching men, nodded obediently, and watched them quietly with her big, round, black peach eyes as they approached and surrounded her little by little, without any fear at all.
