Chapter 23 Premeditation

"Go and pick up manure for me."

Second Uncle Wei pointed at Wei Qingmiao, his tone as if it was a matter of course.

"Why?! I won't go! You're the one who's cheating, not me!"

Bang!

He slapped her in the face, and Uncle Wei's face looked gloomy and terrifying, scaring the other two girls so much that they shrank back.

"Just because I'm your father! You're my son, a money-loser! You have to go if I tell you to!"

Wei Qingmiao's eyes turned red with grievance. She hated the eldest wife's family in her heart and regretted again why she saved her father. Wouldn't it be better to let him die?

"Yes, cousin, how can Second Uncle carry manure when his legs are broken? You are his daughter, so isn't it your duty to help him?"

Even a fool could hear the gloating in Wei Qingfeng's cold tone. Looking at Wei Ci who was protected by him, Wei Qingmiao couldn't suppress the evil thoughts in his heart.

"Don't talk so nicely. Wasn't it your brother who broke my father's leg? Why are you pretending to be such a good person?"

Wei Qingfeng raised his eyebrows: "Cousin, did you see it? You can't put the blame on my family when your family is in trouble and mine is fine? My eldest brother has only been back for two days and you're already throwing dirty water on him. Tsk tsk, it's really..."

What was the truth? Wei Qingfeng didn't say it, he just looked her up and down with a look of disgust, then turned away in disgust, which made Wei Qingmiao very angry.

"Qingfeng is right, what are you talking about? I broke my leg by myself, why are you dragging others into this? I told you to pick up manure, so you go pick up manure. You stay at home every day and eat and drink for free. I'm wasting my time supporting you!"

Uncle Wei reluctantly turned his gaze away from Widow Jiao, glared at his ignorant daughter, then looked at his third brother who was competing with him for the woman, and limped away. He had to heal his leg as soon as possible, otherwise he would not be able to protect his little darling.

Wei Qingmiao was so angry that she almost vomited blood. In front of everyone in the yard, she felt that she had lost all her face in two lifetimes.

Her gaze fell on Wei Ci, who was happily watching the fun, and Wei Qingmiao's eyes flashed. She remembered that not long after the busy farming season, Wei Ci went up the mountain to pick up mountain products and dug up a fifty-year-old wild ginseng. She also used this wild ginseng to get a big favor from a county official, but she didn't know where the address was.

Wei Ci felt a chill on her back and hid behind her second brother. She felt that someone was trying to plot against her again.

She glanced at Wei Qingmiao secretly, but she didn't expect to meet her gaze directly. Wei Ci was stunned for a moment, then grinned, dimples bloomed at the corners of her mouth, and sweetness began to spread. Wei Qingmiao's heart was stuck and she almost couldn't breathe.

How come this damn girl looks prettier now?

"What are you staring at?"

Wei Ci pinched her waist and glared back fiercely, baring her teeth and claws like a cat with its fur standing on end.

Wei Qingfeng's eyes pierced Wei Qingmiao, and the coldness in his eyes made her shiver unconsciously.

Patting his sister's furry head, Wei Qingfeng turned around and put on a gentle and doting face: "Don't worry about those rubbish, let's go, I'll make you something delicious when I get back."

What's so interesting about a middle-aged man catching his wife cheating? He might as well go home and roast some sweet potatoes.

Just as he was about to take Wei Ci away, a pair of big hands appeared on his shoulders.

"Goudan! Do you want to go pick chestnuts in the mountains? Maomao said yesterday that his dad brought back... a... a bag of hairy chestnuts from the mountains."

When Wei Ci heard the name Goudan, she wanted to laugh. Her eyes curved into crescents, and the visitor started to stutter with laughter.

Wei Qingfeng shook off the arm from his shoulder, rolled his eyes at his childhood friend whose face turned red as a monkey's butt, and pulled Wei Ci away.

"Say my name is Wei Qingfeng again. If you call me Goudan again, I'll beat you into a goudan."

Wei Qiang chuckled foolishly, not angry at all. Seeing the brother and sister were about to leave, he smiled foolishly and stuck to them.

"Alright, alright, Wei Qingfeng, are you going or not? Sister Wei Ci, do you want to go? Brother Qiang will take you to pick wild pears and wild grapes!"

Wei Ci was very interested. In her previous life, she had been trapped in the Right Prime Minister's Mansion. Although there was a space, the fruits and grains grown in the space were all improved. She had never seen wild ones, let alone climbed a mountain.

"Brother, can I go?"

She blinked her big peach blossom eyes, took Wei Qingfeng's hand and started to act coquettishly.

Wei Qingfeng pushed away Wei Qiang who was approaching him. If this guy wasn't their cousin, he would have ignored him.

"Okay, I'll take you into the mountains after I hand over the accounting work. But first, I have to tell you, you can't run around. There are many wild animals, poisonous insects, snakes and ants in the mountains. If anything happens to you, I will skin you alive."

"Hey, hey, hey! Don't you still have me here? I'm here to protect our sister!"

Wei Qiang raised his hand to show that he was able to do it, but was rejected by Wei Qingfeng again.

"Does Second Grandma agree to your going? Besides, don't you have your own sister? Why do you always want to snatch my sister from me?"

Wei Qiang sighed. His sister had that manly temper. He wanted to show her his brotherly love, but she had to accept it, right? She was in a good mood if she didn't slap him aside.

"Don't worry, I'm not going there to mess around. I'm going to pick up mountain products. Grandma is so happy. It's a deal! If you want to go together, I'll bring my little cart and I guarantee we'll come back with a full load!"

With that, Wei Qiang ran away. He was afraid that if he continued, Wei Qingfeng, the ruthless sister-loving man, would reject him.

"Brother, what's in the mountains?"

"There are so many things in the mountains. For example, now that autumn has arrived, most of the wild pears, wild persimmons, and wild grapes in the mountains are almost ripe and can be eaten. Wild persimmons can be made into persimmon cakes, and wild grapes can be used to make wine. There are three or four jars of wild wine buried in the south corner of our yard. They were brewed by my father. You may not know that the wine my father brews is famous throughout the surrounding area..."

The sound of the brother and sister chatting gradually faded away. One tall and one short walked away talking, leaving the chaos behind.

"Going up the mountain?"

Wei Qingmiao muttered to himself, his eyes filled with ecstasy and determination to win.

At eleven o'clock in the evening, Magou Village fell into silence. There was no sign of the hustle and bustle of the day. Only one or two dogs barking from unknown directions could be heard occasionally.

Wei Qingfeng, dressed in black, stood quietly in the woods, watching the slender and graceful figure approaching step by step.

"I've done everything I said, but where's what I wanted?"

The figure raised his head, revealing a face covered with scratches from nails. It was none other than the widow Jiao who had just been caught cheating during the day.

"Since I promised you, I will keep my word."

Wei Qingfeng handed over the wooden box with an expressionless face, his tone cold: "This is a letter of introduction and some banknotes plus five gold bars. It should be enough for you to live on for the next ten years."

Of course, the premise is that the money is still valuable. For example, a few years ago, when old coins from 55 years ago were exchanged for silver coins, 1,000 banknotes could only be exchanged for one dollar today. Some people who hoarded money at home probably cried to death later.

Widow Jiao took the thick envelope, her eyes starting to well up: "Thank you."

Wei Qingfeng waved his hand: "No need to thank me, we each get what we need. You help me ruin the reputation of my second and third uncles, and I will help you get out of here and find the person you want."

Widow Jiao pursed her lips. He certainly knew about the deal between them, but she was still very grateful to him.

"I still want to thank you anyway."
