Chapter 39: Food Distribution Troubles

"The village is distributing food today. Do you want to go and take a look?"

Wei Qingfeng patted the mud off his hands, turned to look at Wei Ci and asked, he is now the accountant in the village, he needs to keep accounts and check the distribution of food.

"Do we have one at home?"

"Yes, my parents and I earned quite a few work points in the first half of the year, and there were also quite a few work points that the village gave as compensation to the families who had been in the accident."

The reason why grain was distributed so late was mainly because the solution to the problem with the grain delivery team had not been determined.

The brother and sister took a few sacks and pushed a tricycle to the wheat field. Before they got there, they heard the hustle and bustle of the crowd.

"Brother, why do I hear someone crying?"

Wei Qingfeng frowned and quickened his pace. The closer they got, the clearer they could hear. There was indeed someone crying, and there was more than one person.

"The food I get is what my man paid for with his life! You don't want to? If you don't want to, then let your man die for the village! Even if he dies, you can still get more food!"

"Bullshit! Your husband died in a mudslide! I'd say he was punished by heaven for doing too many bad things! Why should he get more food? He deserved to die, didn't he?"

When the woman heard this, her eyes instantly turned red. She threw away the bag of grain and pounced forward.

"I'll tear your mouth apart! My husband had to pay his taxes, and that's what happened! If he hadn't been paying his taxes, how could he have died? How could my child have been left without a father? You rotten-hearted, vicious bitch, I'm going to fight you!"

"Bah! He died because of bad luck! We've been delivering public grain for so many years, but everyone else is fine, only they got into trouble. What else can this be but a jinx?"

Upon hearing this, the other families around them who had been in trouble were also furious. The already sad women completely exploded, rolled up their sleeves and rushed forward to slap the man several times.

In an instant, the women's curses and screams were mixed with howling, the scene became chaotic, people's heads seemed to be beaten into dog heads, hair was flying, buttons were popping, and both sides cursed each other's ancestors.

Several village cadres did not try to stop the fight, but squatted in a row, calmly smoking their pipes and watching the fun.

"Captain, why don't you stop them?"

Wei Ci squatted beside Wei Jianguo with her little face in her hands, and nodded her fair chin towards the crowd of people fighting.

Wei Jianguo was extremely calm, puffing on his pipe, not in a hurry at all.

"Why stop them? Let them fight. Stop when they've had enough of fighting and making enough noise."

He was sick to stop them, but these old women were so fierce that each slap was harder than the other. Believe it or not, if he had gone up to stop them, he would have been the one to get beaten. This was the experience he had summed up after being the team leader for three or four years.

When women fight, don't get involved. As long as you intervene, no matter whether it is your fault or not, it will eventually become your fault. Being pointed at and scolded is the lightest thing, but being slapped and scratched is really bad luck.

Wei Ci didn't believe it at first, until her unlucky uncle Wei San came limping over and saw his wife being beaten. He rushed forward and within five seconds, he was beaten and slapped out by a group of women who were so angry that they were red-eyed.

"Hiss! What a miserable man."

Wei Ci sympathetically stepped forward and looked at Uncle Wei's face, which was scratched like a cat scratching board, and the bruises on both eyes. He didn't even know which angry aunt had kicked his crutch away and it disappeared.

"See? This is what happens when a man gets involved."

No matter whether you are the captain or the county magistrate, as long as you intervene, you will be kicked out of the battle circle by the women.

Wei Ci nodded seriously, understanding.

"The one who was beaten was...?"

Wei Jianguo glanced at the little girl and snorted, "Don't tell me you didn't recognize that it was your Third Aunt."

Wei Ci pretended to suddenly understand and clapped her hands: "I was wondering why it sounded so familiar, haha..."

With a silly smile, Wei Ci began to watch the fun happily. She was in the best mood when her enemy was in trouble.

But she didn't expect that the woman who was beaten was actually her third aunt. She thought she would be more obedient after her son went to jail, but she came out and made trouble after just two days.

It's easy to imagine that the only person she was dissatisfied with was their eldest wife. Otherwise, with her brain as small as a soybean, how could she offend so many people at once?

It’s just a pity that she attacked at the wrong time and ended up arousing public anger.

The battle ended with several aunts and sisters losing a hair and breaking a few buttons, and the worst-off was Aunt Wei San, who was covered in wounds almost all over her body.

Wei Jianguo tapped the pipe in his hand and stood up slowly.

"Have you had enough of this? If you've done that, come register your names, verify your work points, and get your food distributed! If you have the energy to fight, why don't you think about saving more firewood? You're so bored you're just thinking about other people's things all day long! If you keep trying to make trouble next time, I'll just deduct your points and leave you starving for the rest of the year! Line up! Register!"

"Wow...Captain! They are the ones bullying me."

"Don't you deserve that?"

After saying this, he didn't care about Aunt Wei San who was still sitting on the ground crying, and just struck the broken gong and started distributing the food.

Wei Jianguo stood leisurely by, watching Wei Qingfeng clacking away on the abacus. The villagers signed their names and received their grains obediently, and no one dared to cause trouble.

Half a month had passed since the day of grain distribution. Wei Ci was busy every day learning how to pickle sauerkraut, pickled cucumbers, spicy radishes, and spicy cabbage from the grandmothers. Every day she lived a fulfilling and satisfying life.

"Aci! Are you home?"

Wei Ci stuck her head out of the kitchen and waved to Wei Man.

"At home."

Wei Man came in carrying a steamed bun basket made of corn husks with a curtain and a layer of cloth on top. Faint white smoke was oozing out from the corners.

Wei Ci sniffed: "What is this? It smells so good!"
