Chapter 51 Winter Fishing Begins

Winter fishing is a large collective activity held once a year, and all the men, women, and children in the village will join in.

At three o'clock in the morning, Wei Ci just came out of the space and heard the noisy voices in the village.

"Aci, are you up? It's time to leave."

Wei Ci put on a rabbit fur hat and a scarf, wrapped herself in three layers of layers, and walked out the door waddling like a penguin that had just learned to walk.

"How much are you wearing?"

Wei Qingshan, who was only wearing a cotton-padded jacket, a military coat, and a dog-skin hat, found his sister's appearance somewhat amusing. He took out a pair of thick gloves and put them on her, muttering to himself:

"I told you not to go, but you insisted on going. Can't you just sleep at home? It's freezing outside."

Wei Ci pouted. She just wanted to see what winter fishing was like, and by the way, catch some small fish and bring them into the space.

"Hurry up and eat something to fill your stomach. We have to be busy at Moon Lake all day today."

Wei Ci nodded, holding the sticky rice dumpling and eating it bit by bit, watching the three grown men in the house busying themselves inside and outside.

"Aci! Hurry up! It's time to leave!"

Four horse-drawn carriages and two ox-drawn carts were already loaded with things and waiting at the village entrance. Wei Ci was arranged in a sleigh pulled by Tianyuanfangdi. Wei Yang and Wei Man were waving at her vigorously.

Wei Ci patted the two dogs' heads with her gloved hands, her little face flushed with excitement.

"Is Moon Lake far from here?"

Wei Yang still had something stuffed in his mouth and couldn't speak, so he could only point at Wei Man and signal her to speak.

"Not far, about half an hour's journey!"

The north wind mixed with snow particles was blowing so hard that people couldn't open their eyes. Wei Man leaned close to Wei Ci's ear and spoke loudly.

Nodding heavily to indicate that she heard, Wei Ci shrank her little face into the scarf again. It was too cold and the wind made her face hurt.

A thick quilt fell from the sky and covered the three little girls. Wei Ci struggled out and met Gu Zhan's deep eyebrows. When his dark green eyes saw her, they curved slightly with a hint of smile.

He reached out to tidy up the quilt for her and patted her furry rabbit fur hat. Although he didn't say a word, Wei Ci understood what he meant.

"Be good, cover yourself with the quilt and don't move."

Wei Ci was embarrassed by her own imagination and quickly shifted her gaze, hiding her rosy little face back in her thick scarf.

Gu Zhan raised his thin lips in a subtle arc, and quietly moved to the windward side of the little girl, blocking the biting north wind behind him. While being alert to his surroundings, he kept his attention on Wei Ci from time to time, fearing that she would fall accidentally.

"Aci, he's Qingshan's teammate, right? He's so tall."

Wei Yang and the other person observed secretly for a long time. Wei Ci thought they would say something, but after watching for a long time, they just praised it, saying, "It's so high?"

Wei Yang said innocently: "I want to praise him for other things, but the problem is that I can't see anything else about him."

The man was covered from head to toe, revealing only a pair of sharp eyes that were as frightening as the ice and snow outside.

Wei Ci raised her eyes quietly and met Gu Zhan's eyes. She lowered her head immediately in panic and missed the smile in his eyes.

"Yes, that's him."

The three little girls were whispering to each other with their heads close together, and from time to time they would look back at the tall and burly man like a bear. Their eyes were so strange that Gu Zhan straightened his back unconsciously.

A large number of people wearing cotton socks, felt boots, and dog-skin hats, holding flashlights or torches, lined up in a long line and headed towards Moon Lake.

The moon hung in the sky, and the full white moonlight shone on the white snow, reflecting a hazy white light.

"Guess how heavy the fish harvest is this year?"

"It has to be at least 30 kilograms, right? Last year's was 35 kilograms."

Thinking of the hope for a good harvest and the children and elderly at home who have been looking forward to catching big fish for the New Year, their hearts are warmed and they have more energy to travel. Although the weather is very cold, everyone is chatting more and more enthusiastically.

When the distant sky turned orange, Wei Ci was already standing on a piece of ice.

He stepped onto the ice cautiously with his feet in rabbit fur boots, fearing that the ice would crack in the next second and he would fall off.

"Don't be afraid. The ice is over a meter thick. Even if you jump hard, it won't break."

As soon as Wei Yang finished speaking, the horse-drawn carriage and ox-drawn cart that had been parked at the selected location for setting up the net began to move.

"Women, watch your children carefully! Cart drivers, watch your step. Don't let them fall into the cracks that haven't frozen over, or you won't be able to get them out!"

Wei Jianguo stood on the leading carriage with a loud speaker, patiently instructing those who were so excited that they could hardly control themselves.

"Really? Every year around this time, I have to talk myself into it!"

Muttering something, Wei Jianguo took a deep breath of cold air that could freeze one's heart into pieces, shivered violently, and became a little more sober.

"Fish boss! How long will it take to get there?"

The old man tapped his pipe and said calmly, "Don't worry, we're almost there."

Wei Ci was so happy that she completely forgot why she came here.

"Hahahaha! Slow down!"

Wei Ci sat on the skis, letting Tian Yuan pull her to have fun on the safe ice surface. Feeling the speed and the cold, her little face flushed with excitement. Around her were children playing wildly with various skating tools, and the air was filled with their extremely excited screams and shouts.

These kids came here to play. This is the largest lake they have ever seen. Their parents said that the sea outside is bigger than this Moon Lake, but they have never seen the sea. They think Moon Lake is the largest.

Wei Yang was almost envious and stamped his feet anxiously beside him: "It's my turn, it's my turn! Let me play for a while!"

Wei Qingqing had walked up to them at some point, and was filled with envy as he watched them laughing and playing together.

"Want to play? Too bad they won't pay any attention to you."

Wei Qingmiao leaned closer, his tone meaningful.

Wei Qingqing pursed her lips, glanced at the cloth wrapped around her head, then looked at her still limping leg, her expression indescribable.

"Even though you're lame like this, you still can't help but stir up trouble. Do you think you're tough?"

Wei Qingqing's question was sincere, and his expression and tone were even more sincere.

Wei Qingmiao's face turned black and he almost vomited blood. Is this person really stupid or just pretending to be stupid? He really didn't understand what she was saying.

"Your brother was forced to sit in jail because of them, aren't you angry?"

"Weren't you the one who killed my brother?"

Wei Qingqing was even more confused. Could it be that the facts she knew were different from what he knew?

"How could it be me? Your brother was sent to jail by that damn girl Wei Ci. If it weren't for her, how could Qinghao be arrested?"

Wei Qingmiao's rebuttal was neither justified nor justified. She really felt that it had nothing to do with her that Wei Qinghao was arrested and imprisoned, and she did not take the money from selling Wei's porcelain.

Wei Qingqing rolled her eyes secretly. He really thought she was a fool. Just because she didn't like Wei Ci didn't mean she could be so stubborn as to target her. She was afraid that Wei Qingfeng, the crazy man with a sister complex, would break her legs too.
