Chapter 24024 "Will you come here again?"
The crowd below was still cheering for the result of the game, but the atmosphere in the box was unusually tense.
The omega in the club quietly glanced up. The female alpha seated at the top didn't seem interested in him. He didn't know where he had offended her, and held his glass nervously.
Lan Hui was even more apprehensive. He put down the ice pack, revealing half of his face, which had been swollen from the beating, and tried to stir up Lan Xi's nonexistent distress: "Sister, I was wrong..."
Between a frightened beautiful omega and a frightened Beagle brother, Lan Xi still knew who to comfort.
She took the glass of wine and set it aside, then raised her hand to the omega. He meekly lowered his head and let her touch his fluffy bunny ears.
"I have something to do here, you go ahead and do your work first." Lan Xi said softly.
This action relieved the omega's anxiety. He raised his eyelashes and stared at her with a smile on his lips: "Well, Miss Lan, have fun."
He cast a subtle glance at the young man standing silently behind her. Having worked in such settings for years, he was adept at reading people's expressions and could keenly sense the man's uneasiness, especially when he approached Miss Lan and lowered his head to let her touch his rabbit ears.
Envy and sadness intertwined, leaking out from those eyes.
"You arranged it well."
Lan Xi took a sip of the sweet wine and glanced at Lan Hui leisurely, "You're stringing them together one by one to mess with me."
"How do I know you..."
Because Liang Qing was present, Lan Hui didn't continue. But his message was clear: he wasn't optimistic about Liang Qing because of his family background and depression. First, they weren't a good match, and Liang Qing's family was a quagmire, leaving anyone embroiled in it. Second, his mental state was also worrying. A severely depressed person wouldn't even be able to provide any emotional value.
Dead wood floating in the mud.
Isn't Jiang Sui good? Isn't Qin Xing good? Both are excellent omegas. If Lan Xi wants a lively one, she can choose Jiang Sui. If she wants a quiet one, she can choose Qin Xing. Why bother focusing on a beta that has problems everywhere?
Oh, even the beta himself is not optimistic about their relationship.
When Lan Hui was complaining in his heart, he was grabbed by the collar and lifted up.
"You'd better behave yourself," Lan Xi warned through gritted teeth, "or I'll make your head swell up like a pig before the engagement banquet."
"Hey, sister, please don't hit me for Shen Su's sake. You can scold me however you want. Think about it, although your sister doesn't feel bad about hitting me, my fiancée does... Please, don't make Shen Su sad."
At the critical moment, Lan Hui moved his fiancée out, thus escaping the disaster. He slipped away without looking back, without even taking the ice pack, which was left on the seat, soaking into a puddle of water.
Without the third person to liven up the atmosphere, the box immediately became quiet.
Lan Xi sipped the sweet wine, her gaze fixed on the distant boxing ring, secretly pondering what to say next. During the days Liang Qing had been on leave, they hadn't communicated at all. Lan Xi could only get information from the "landlord" who had been sent there. She wanted to ask him about the dark circles under his eyes, and even wanted to ask him again about his feelings.
But she couldn't. Liang Qing was like a bird that landed under a tree to eat fruit. If you got close to him, he would fly away in a flash.
The waiter replaced the cushion that was stained by the ice pack, and Lan Xi said, "Sit down."
The person who had been standing behind him for a long time didn't move immediately. He looked at Lan Xi's back hesitantly. As an assistant, he shouldn't sit with her, otherwise the boundaries would become blurred again...
There was an impatient knock on the table. Lan Xi held the wine glass in one hand and bent her knuckles with the other, without moving her eyes at all.
Liang Qing sat down without saying a word.
It was fine for him to stand in the corner behind her; that was his place. Every time Lan Xi showed concern, it piqued his vigilance, and he was ready to withdraw at any time.
Wouldn't handing in his resignation have solved the problem? He appeared to be terrified of this ambiguous relationship, repeatedly drawing the line, but in reality, he couldn't move a step further.
Liang Qing thought, he is such a despicable person.
"If you keep turning down appointments with Young Master Qin Xing, you won't be able to hide it from the chairman," he said in a businesslike tone, "I hope you can take this seriously..."
"Of course I'm not going because I'm not satisfied."
"Young Master Qin is the chairman's designated candidate," Liang Qing emphasized. He finally straightened out his stance at this point, clearly standing in opposition to Lan Xi.
Out of some selfish motives, he has been cooperating with Lan Xi and making every meeting perfunctory, but now he dares not do it anymore.
Lan Xi finally glanced at him. Ever since he had followed her to this club, she had been furious, and she had never even glanced at him. Now she looked over, a casual glance, devoid of emotion.
Even if she glared at him hatefully, at least she could let him bear her anger with peace of mind.
"Why don't you ask me," she trailed off, subtly putting pressure on him, "what I'm dissatisfied with."
“…”
Liang Qing remained silent, sitting in his seat like a stone statue.
After two or three seconds, the oppressive pressure disappeared from around him. Liang Qing took a deep breath, and the noisy voices that were faintly in his ears became clearer. He could hardly stay in the box any longer. The noisy sounds outside seemed as beautiful to him as music.
He couldn't ask her because he didn't dare to listen to her answer.
If she spoke out, the little bit of peace that existed would be ruthlessly shattered, and he would then have to leave.
Expected silence. Lan Xi gritted her teeth as she finished her question, almost wanting to add another sentence, asking him to stop deceiving himself, but adhering to the principle of boiling a frog in warm water, she ultimately did not add fuel to the fire.
When the bunny-eared omega approached again, he had changed his clothes, a sleeveless, belly-exposing top with trousers, but he still had the bunny-ear headband. Liang Qing recognized him at a glance.
"I think Miss Lan is a little bored," he leaned over in front of Lan Xi, "Now that I'm off work, can I buy you a drink?"
He also brought two omega colleagues, each of whom was dressed up. Compared to the overly cool "professional attire" when they went on stage, their current casual clothes were more eye-catching.
The other two omegas were in their early twenties, their faces still a bit green. Seeing Lan Xi staring at them, the bunny-eared omega took the initiative to introduce them: "They're new, both twenty-one-year-old college graduates."
"Call me sister," he instructed the other two.
He was obviously an elder with seniority, and the other two omegas followed his instructions and sweetly called him, "Sister!"
Liang Qing's hands, placed flat on his knees, tensed their knuckles unconsciously.
"Okay, since you call me sister," Lan Xi raised the corner of her lips, "then have a few drinks with me."
The omega's face was filled with unconcealed excitement. Lan Xi didn't mind it. The young, handsome boy worked hard for his job and to get the Blue Eye Award. She didn't mind helping him out; it was just a small favor.
The sweet, golden liquor flowed through the stacked glasses, the crisp clink of glass echoing. A round table divided the private room into two worlds. On one side, there was laughter and joy, as beautiful young omegas surrounded the female alpha like stars surrounding the moon. On the other side, a young beta sat alone, dressed in a formal suit, buttons buttoned to the top, motionless.
Although Liang Qing focused all his attention on the field, his hearing betrayed him and he heard every word of the conversation beside him. He could no longer see Lan Xi's face out of the corner of his eye because she was surrounded by omegas.
"Is this your first time here? Our club has a lot of fun besides boxing. Come and experience it again in the future. Just call me when you come. I'll accompany you, okay?"
"I've been here a few times before," Lan Xi shook her wine glass. "I think it was... a few years ago, when it first opened."
"So early?"
Even the most experienced bunny-eared omega didn't start here right after the opening. They looked at each other and then went up to ask her what she liked to play in the past.
Actually, there wasn't much fun there before. Lan Xi had come to visit the club when it opened purely to inspect it. This club was opened by Sun Xi, and she had invested in it. She was only interested in the boxing ring on the second floor below ground, and she would specifically let her know when famous boxers were competing.
As for the beautiful omegas who appeared after the exciting boxing matches, they were just a mild diversion, and she didn't pay much attention to them. Now it seems that they are indeed an indispensable part of the scenery.
Before leaving, the omegas reluctantly saw her off to the door, clamoring for her to come and see them again.
"Some other time," Lan Xi rolled down the car window and waved at them, "I'll come see you when I'm free."
"Will you come here again?"
Suddenly, Liang Qing asked her from the driver's seat. After asking without thinking, he realized his mistake and avoided Lan Xi's puzzled eyes in the rearview mirror as if he had been electrocuted, and started the car.
The omegas' ambitions were so obvious, he'd thought they'd be unpopular, but actually... Lan Xi seemed to enjoy them. He mentally dissected the omegas' performances one by one, trying to find something that would satisfy Lan Xi.
He was very confused and very anxious, and his subconscious was telling him that something was imminent.
This look was clearly visible in the rearview mirror. Lan Xi curled her lips into a silent smile, but when she opened her phone, her eyes twitched and the smile shattered without a trace. There were several missed calls, from Secretary Wen, Lan Hui, and... from her father. In the message list, her father's message stood out: "Come back tomorrow."
Oh no, this time dad is serious.
Lan Xi could already foresee how her father would contact Lan Hui after he couldn't get through to her. Her father asked, "Where's your sister?" Lan Hui, that jerk, replied, "Oh, she stood up her date and was chatting with me at the club. When I left, she was touching the omega's bunny ears."
Haha, totally... inexplicable.
She told Liang Qing bitterly: "I'm going home tomorrow after turning down all my work."
"Brother, you are so brave," the young omega on the street said to the older senior, "She rejected you once, and you still dared to go for her."
The bunny-eared omega put away his watery eyes and stared at the back of the nice car: "She has nothing to say to that guy, and she needs me."
"Aren't you afraid that the male companion will beat you? You can't afford to offend the people around Miss Lan. What if he is also someone with connections?"
"Your eyesight isn't very good," the bunny-eared omega said in a sophisticated tone, "Can't you see? He's just like us. Humph, he looks down on me and yet he's envious to death."
Seeing that beta being humiliated, he felt a sense of revenge. Who told him to look down on him? What's more, that was the heir to the Lan family. What if he was lucky enough to get close to her?
