Chapter Fifty-Seven: Escape

The others dared not speak; there really was such a rule with Chief Gu. It's just that people didn't necessarily follow it strictly on a regular basis.

They might verbally flirt with young women or occasionally get physically involved, but no one could really do anything about it. After all, Chief Gu couldn't be watching them every day.

"Don't blame me for being impolite. Something happened last night, so I'll take the blame. If something else happens today, you can talk to the boss yourselves," the shotgun-wielding man said casually, still with his unlit cigarette dangling from his lips.

Those people immediately quieted down. It wasn't actually them who were on watch last night; it was Boss Han and another group.

Around midnight, some bored people started harassing the young girl. She protested and started a fight. Her brother was also there and got into a conflict with them. While they were arguing, zombies crept in unnoticed…

Three villagers died last night, including the brother and sister. One of their men also died, and Chief Gu is still angry about it.

If they dare to pull another trick, Chief Gu will really chop them up tomorrow.

For a moment, the area around the wall returned to calm, with only the sound of everyone carefully repairing it.

"Sister, how do we get away? Should we take out all six of them?" Mu Qingrong whispered. He had calculated carefully that if they took them out one by one, they might be able to do it.

Mu Qingyu shook her head slightly: "Killing them is not difficult, but there are still more than twenty villagers. If they die, these people will scatter and alert the enemy."

"Then what should we do?"

"Let's escape first, then launch a surprise attack!"

A few minutes later, Mu Qingrong raised her hand like a student: "Big brother, I...I need to go to the toilet..."

Upon hearing this, the man with the buzz cut spat and cursed, "Fuck your mother, what are you doing in the toilet? Find a wall to relieve yourself, and don't go too far, we'll see you." He had no patience for Mu Qingrong.

"But...but I need to poop..." Mu Qingrong clutched her stomach, stamped her feet, and looked anxious.

"Damn it!" the crew-cut man cursed again, but then heard the man with the shotgun say, "Take him outside the wall, somewhere far away, so he doesn't stink to death. Watch out for zombies."

The man with the buzz cut cursed his bad luck inwardly and was very annoyed. He stepped forward, grabbed Mu Qingrong by the back of his collar, and dragged him over the wall.

This time he didn't curse or swear, but he had already decided that when they got to a secluded place, he would teach this kid a lesson and force him to eat the shit he had just produced!

Mu Qingrong had the same plan in mind. He wanted to bully his sister; he had to be taught a lesson!

Knowing that Mu Qingyu and Mu Qingrong were siblings, and that Mu Qingyu was still obediently working with the other villagers to build the wall, those people naturally didn't suspect anything.

However, fifteen minutes passed, and the two people who went out still hadn't returned.

"That's not right, Han! Let alone pooping, we've already finished eating!" The man spoke in a vulgar and crude manner, which made the other men burst into laughter.

Ignoring his companion's laughter, the man continued speaking to the man with the shotgun, "How about I take two brothers out to check? Maybe it's a zombie attack."

"I'll go." The man with the hunting rifle, who had been leaning against the wall gazing at the sky with boredom, straightened up and picked up his ever-present hunting rifle: "I'm so bored, let's see if I can take down a few zombies to kill some time."

The speaker breathed a sigh of relief and couldn't help but admire him. Only their leader, Han, could say something like "killing a few zombies for fun."

The man was about to climb over the wall and leave when Mu Qingyu weakly said behind him, "I want to go see him too. My brother has been gone for so long, I'm worried about him..."

"Look at what..." the rude man snapped, but before he could finish his sentence, the man with the shotgun nodded and said, "Fine, you come with me. I don't care if there are zombies."

Since the man with the shotgun had said so, no one else dared to object. They also failed to notice that Mu Qingyu jumped off the wall with nimble movements and a light body.

"They seem to have gone that way," Mu Qingyu pointed in a direction.

The man with the shotgun nodded, gesturing for Mu Qingyu to walk ahead.

The two walked two or three hundred meters away but still couldn't see Mu Qingrong or the man with the buzz cut. A zombie, however, wandered over after smelling human scent, only to have its brain smashed by the shotgun-wielding man's rifle butts.

"There's a small grove of trees ahead; they must have gone into there," Mu Qingyu said, pointing to the shadowy grove ahead.

Unexpectedly, the man with the shotgun snorted coldly. In fact, the man with the buzz cut would not take anyone that far. He didn't care about Mu Qingrong's privacy. As long as the smell didn't drift towards their night watch area, that was enough.

So his cold snort clearly indicated that he knew Mu Qingyu was trying to trick him into going into the grove.

Mu Qingyu reacted quickly. When she realized that she had been exposed, she turned around and fired three hidden arrows from her right hand.

After all, the man with the shotgun had a gun, so she had to seize the initiative!

To everyone's surprise, the man with the hunting rifle dodged all three arrows in succession, clearly indicating that he knew Mu Qingyu was planning to ambush him.

In this urgent situation, Mu Qingyu had no choice but to pull out a military dagger from her spatial storage and attack the man with the hunting rifle. She fully utilized the advantages of her mutated physical abilities, attempting to kill him with a single blow and end the battle quickly.

The man with the shotgun defended himself, but after two rounds, neither of them gained the upper hand—it turned out that the man with the shotgun was also a physical mutant!

Mu Qingyu wasn't afraid of her in a one-on-one fight, but a protracted battle would be very disadvantageous for her. If the person at the village entrance heard the commotion and came to join the battle, it would be very difficult for her to win!

So after feinting a few consecutive thrusting attacks, she turned and rolled on the spot, changing direction and running towards the grove.

Mu Qingyu was very fast. She wasn't afraid of the man with the shotgun chasing her, but she needed to be careful that he didn't fire at her! She didn't know how far the shotgun could go, so she could only run forward as fast as she could and keep an eye on the movements behind her.

But strangely, the man with the shotgun didn't chase after them! He didn't even pull the trigger; he just stood there, watching Mu Qingyu leave with a half-smile, and finally lit the cigarette he'd been holding all night.

Mu Qingyu entered the grove and almost bumped into Mu Qingrong, who was running out to fight.

"Sister, are you alright?" He seemed to hear the sounds of fighting in the distance.

"I'm fine. Are you alright? Where's that buzz cut guy?" Mu Qingyu turned around and looked to make sure no one was following them before asking.

Mu Qingrong sneered, "We've taught that scum a lesson he'll never forget. Sister, what do we do now?"

"Leave first, run far away." Mu Qingyu said, throwing another brand-new motorcycle out of her spatial storage. The two they had ridden that morning had been stolen by Chief Gu's gang. "We'll come back later tonight!"
