Chapter Sixty-Two: Exchanging Medicine
While Mu Qingrong was still struggling with the lack of gunpowder preventing the practical application of firearms, he heard Mu Qingyu calling him.
Mu Qingrong immediately ran to the window to look: "With such heavy rain, why are people still running here?"
Were they chased by zombies? It doesn't seem like it.
Mu Qingyu didn't answer, but said with some doubt, "Why does that figure look a little familiar to me?"
"Familiar?" Mu Qingrong also found it strange. He didn't know many people well, even his sister. "Could it be one of your classmates from university or something?"
That's possible. Mu Qingyu doesn't have many friends; she's probably only close to her classmates. She's not particularly withdrawn; she gets along well with her classmates, but she just doesn't have any deep friendships with anyone.
Driven by this inexplicable sense of familiarity, the siblings squeezed together at the window to carefully observe the two people's every move.
After days of torrential rain, the water outside the house is already quite deep, enough to submerge an adult's thighs, and in some low-lying areas, it can reach above waist level.
The two people practically had to swim to get forward.
"One of them seems to be injured," Mu Qingrong said. This was mainly based on the way the two people were moving and their movements; the person swimming in front was struggling to drag the person behind them in the heavy rain.
The two of them kept moving towards the house, which showed their resilience.
"It seems they're planning to settle here." Mu Qingrong looked at her sister. It seemed there were more and more people in the village, and she didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing for them.
Finally, the two people swam into Building No. 1.
"Xiao Rong, go next door and tell Mo Huaiyu about the situation. Tell him to keep a close eye on the newcomers." Mu Qingyu isn't the master of this village; she can't just kill anyone who comes to the village.
But it's unclear who exactly is coming, though Mo Huaiyu's special abilities might come in handy.
Mu Qingrong nodded. There was no need to go next door. She had given Mo Huaiyu a walkie-talkie when she killed the bad guys last time, and later simply left it with Mo Huaiyu for easy communication between the two sides.
"Sis, don't you think Xiao Mo's superpower is a bit scary? He can know what others are doing and he can even block bullets." Mu Qingrong simply said, "What if he watches me take a shower?" Ah! What if he peeks at my sister taking a shower!
Mu Qingrong was suddenly startled by this thought of hers.
Seeing Mu Qingrong's thunderstruck expression, Mu Qingyu knew that his thoughts had wandered to some strange question again, so she could only smile and explain, "Theoretically, of course he can."
"However, his current ability level is not high. He can probably only see a shadowy outline of people, so he has no reason to peep at you while you are taking a shower. It's just a dark shadow, what's there to see?"
"Of course, as his ability level increases, he might actually be able to see the complete reality." When Mu Qingyu returned to Mu Qingrong's question, she herself hadn't thought of anything else.
"But observing others also requires constantly consuming your superpowers. You yourself are a superpower user, so I believe you can understand that using superpowers is a continuous drain on energy. Just like when you fight monsters, you can't keep using your ultimate move forever. If you run out of mana or potions, you can't replenish them for most of the day."
"So it's impossible for Mo Huaiyu to be so bored as to waste his superpowers watching you all the time. Besides, we are all superpowered individuals, so if he is spying on us, we can more or less sense some superpower fluctuations."
"So—" Mu Qingyu smiled and tapped Mu Qingrong's forehead with her index finger, "So for the time being, no one will peek at you while you're taking a bath, don't worry."
Was I worried he'd see me showering? I was worried about you! My sister! Mu Qingrong realized that his sister seemed a little oblivious in these matters. That won't do; he'll have to keep a closer eye on her from now on!
Sigh, I've worried myself sick over this family!
After informing Mo Huaiyu about the people coming from the village, nothing happened for the rest of the day.
Mu Qingyu returned to the space. Several days passed, and the number on the door remained unchanged at "37". This meant that the change in the number had nothing to do with time.
The seedlings that were planted have grown taller, and the seedlings that were watered by the pond are growing particularly well, lush and vibrant.
Since it was lettuce, Mu Qingyu thought for a moment, then broke off a leaf and ate it. Sweet, fresh, tender, and crisp! That was her impression of the lettuce leaf.
The leaves tasted great; they were delicious even eaten raw. Besides, Mu Qingyu felt much more energetic after eating this lettuce.
It seems that the pool of water is harmless. However, we still need to observe it for a few more days.
Mu Qingyu thought for a moment, then ran to the pool and took a small sip of the water. The pool water was cool and sweet, and like lettuce, it gave her a feeling of invigorating energy.
Mu Qingyu felt that this pool of water was probably a treasure, but she didn't dare to be careless and planned to continue to observe for a period of time to see the changes in her body after drinking the water.
The next day, the torrential rain finally stopped. However, unlike the day immediately following the apocalypse, the sun did not shine brightly immediately; instead, the downpour turned into a misty, drizzling rain.
Early in the morning, the gate of Mu Qingyu's No. 3 building was knocked on again. It was her younger sister who had moved to No. 5 building.
She was holding a box of cookies in her arms, and she was anxiously knocking on the door knocker of Building 3.
Mu Qingyu saw her when she arrived, so he went downstairs and opened the door for her: "What is it?"
My sister's hair was a bit longer and neater than when she last came, but she looked anxious: "Could I exchange some fever reducers with you? Aunt Mei said you seem to have some medicine here, as they've run out of fever reducers."
The younger sister handed over the box of cookies she was holding, asking, "Is this okay?"
"Who has a fever?" Mu Qingyu didn't take the cookie from her, but just stared at her and asked.
Her lips looked like they were blistered from anxiety. Hearing Mu Qingyu's question, she honestly replied, "The youngest child and my sister have had fevers for two days. Aunt Mei gave us some medicine, but after we finished it, the fever hasn't gone down..."
She seemed somewhat at a loss as she spoke; faced with the illness, she was completely helpless without a doctor.
"Wait here." Mu Qingyu took the cookies and closed the courtyard gate.
The younger sister waited anxiously at the door. Five minutes later, Mu Qingyu returned and handed her a bag of medicine wrapped in plastic.
My sister looked closely and found a box of ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, a fever reducer; a box of cephalexin, an antibiotic; and a box of children's Xiaochaihu granules, also for fever reduction, but for children.
The younger sister hadn't expected Mu Qingyu to be so generous, making her box of cookies seem particularly meager. She quickly thanked her profusely.
However, Mu Qingyu's expression was not good. Before she could finish thanking her, Mu Qingyu slammed the door shut.
