Chapter Sixty-Nine Crisis
"Go to that hotel!" Mu Qingyu said, "At least find a building to hide in first."
Mo Huaiyu said, "There are people in the hotel, about twenty or thirty people."
"A living person?" Mu Qingyu asked.
“A living person.” Mo Huaiyu nodded in affirmation.
"Let's go take a look." Mu Qingyu decided to go anyway. The buildings they needed to hide in now included the hospital, which was teeming with zombies, and the botanical garden was out of the question.
There weren't many buildings in the botanical garden, and the dense forest made it easier to hide unknown dangers. Although Mo Huaiyu possessed psychic abilities, he wasn't a danger detector.
The roar of the three motorcycles attracted the scattered zombies that had been wandering nearby. As they approached the hotel, the group had to get off the motorcycles and clear out the zombies that had gathered around them.
Four people could manage to handle a dozen or so zombies. As the four killed the zombies, Mo Huaiyu sat nervously in the car, looking around.
"Watch out!" Mo Huaiyu suddenly shouted.
As Mo Huaiyu finished speaking, a Molotov cocktail landed and exploded in the horde of zombies, scattering sparks everywhere. The four people fighting among the zombies were also killed.
Inevitably, the flying glass shards and sparks also splashed onto Mu Qingyu and the other three.
"Damn it!" Han Yu cursed under his breath. The shard of glass had the misfortune of reopening the scar on his face, adding new wounds to old ones.
Ji Qingqing, who had finally joined Mu Qingyu's team, was also hit in the knee by shards of glass and almost fell to the ground and was pounced on by a zombie.
Mu Qingrong was quick-witted and pulled Ji Qingqing back.
Mu Qingrong was hit by several shards, but luckily, the shards were small and light, only burning a few holes in his clothes, and he was not seriously injured.
Mu Qingyu also had several small fragments on her body, the most serious being her left arm, where a fragment was embedded in her flesh, causing her wound to bleed profusely.
"Here we go again, dodge!" Mo Huaiyu shouted once more.
This time, the four of them were finally on guard. They turned around, got into the car, and drove several hundred meters away.
The Molotov cocktails behind them exploded one after another in the horde of zombies, burning several of them to death.
"Get out! Don't come near us! Otherwise, you'll all be burned alive!" Someone shouted at Mu Qingyu and her group from a third-floor window of the hotel.
Then, without waiting for anyone to hear, he went back inside and closed the doors and windows tightly.
It was obvious that those Molotov cocktails were thrown by people from the hotel. Their purpose wasn't to drive away the zombies, but rather to drive away these people!
"Sister, you're injured!" Mu Qingrong was furious when she saw Mu Qingyu's bleeding left hand. Those people were despicable. Even if they weren't allowed to come near, they could have warned them first, but instead they threw their weapons without saying a word.
If they hadn't reacted quickly, they would have been burned to death long ago.
"Let's go to the hospital," Han Yu said. Although he didn't understand why Mu Qingyu was so resistant to the hospital, there was no other choice but to go to the hospital at the moment.
"Didn't Xiao Mo say that the hospital is full of zombies?" Mu Qingrong asked anxiously.
“Not entirely!” Mo Huaiyu suddenly spoke up, pointing to the hospital and saying, “There are no zombies in the outpatient hall. Most of the zombies are concentrated on the lawn between the buildings, densely packed. This distribution is really strange.”
"Is there anyone in the outpatient hall?" Han Yu asked him, not wanting to be hit by another Molotov cocktail.
"No, at least not for now!" Mo Huaiyu shook his head, growing weaker and weaker. He tried to probe deeper, but his head was throbbing with pain.
"That's enough." Mu Qingyu pressed down on Mo Huaiyu's shoulder: "Don't overdraw your abilities easily. If you're unconscious now, it will be more troublesome for us to carry you. Not every overdraw will lead to a breakthrough."
She somewhat understood Mo Huaiyu's eagerness to become stronger, but food must be eaten one bite at a time and a road must be walked one step at a time. Upgrading one's superpowers also requires a gradual process and cannot be rushed.
"Let's go to the hospital," Mu Qingyu said, as they truly had no other choice at the moment.
"Hurry, the zombie horde is getting closer," Mo Huaiyu said through gritted teeth, using the last of his supernatural abilities.
So the group got back into the car and headed straight for the hospital's outpatient hall. It was only a distance of six or seven hundred meters; the few zombies they had seen earlier had all been drawn to the hotel.
This time, their arrival at the hospital went exceptionally smoothly.
"The hospital gate is locked from the inside, and there's something blocking the entrance; it looks like someone did it. Is there really no one in the outpatient building?" Mu Qingyu turned to look at Mo Huaiyu.
Mo Huaiyu was too exhausted to conduct another probe at this point, and could only say, "Based on the results of the last probe, we found neither zombies nor people."
This is a small to medium-sized suburban hospital, estimated to cover an area of about 20 to 30 acres. At the very front is the outpatient building, which has only three floors. The outpatient building connects to a green lawn, resembling a small park, where hospitalized patients can relax.
This green area, resembling a small park, is the place where the zombies are most concentrated, as Mo Huaiyu mentioned before.
Behind the green area are two connected hospital buildings.
"Let's look around and see if there's anywhere we can get in," Mu Qingyu said.
Forcibly breaking down the gate is not out of the question. After all, she, Han Yu, and Ji Qingqing are all physical mutants, so demolishing the hospital gate wouldn't be too difficult for them.
But if they tear down the gate, what will they use to block it when the zombies swarm in?
"There's a window on the second floor! I'll climb up and open it," Han Yu said, pointing to the ceiling.
He easily climbed up to the second floor. The window was locked, but he smashed the glass and got in.
He searched around inside before poking his head out again: "Can I come up? It's safe here."
Mu Qingyu carried Mo Huaiyu on her back. Mo Huaiyu seemed embarrassed, but he couldn't be coy in this situation. How could he get up if Mu Qingyu didn't carry him?
Mu Qingrong felt a little ashamed. He had promised to take care of Mo Huaiyu, but now? He himself was having some difficulty going up, let alone bringing Mo Huaiyu along.
"Take his wheelchair upstairs," Mu Qingyu said to Ji Qingqing.
Ji Qingqing nodded immediately, secretly delighted. Could this be considered her initial joining of the group?
Ji Qingqing hoisted the wheelchair onto her back and, imitating Han Yu, climbed up the pipe: "I still have the strength to help your brother up too," she said.
Well, she originally thought that she really didn't want to bring Mo Huaiyu first and then bring Mu Qingrong, but she didn't want Mu Qingrong to cover the rear alone, that would be too dangerous. What if something happened and Mu Qingrong couldn't get up or protect himself?
With the combined help of Ji Qingqing and Mu Qingyu, and with Han Yu also there to assist them on the second floor, Mu Qingrong finally made it to the second floor without incident.
"Hurry! They're coming!"
