Chapter Ninety-Eight: Kill, Kill, Kill
Mu Qingyu wasn't short of supplies; her main purpose in going out was to train Mu Qingrong. Otherwise, with the post-apocalyptic hut she built before the apocalypse, she could have easily survived there for a year or two.
However, only through continuous real combat can they become stronger. Mu Qingyu's physical upgrade and the unexpected acquisition of fire and electricity abilities are the best proof of this.
It's actually quite suitable to kill zombies inside the building now, unlike in the open space outside where zombies will swarm in from all directions.
The limited space in the corridor restricted the zombies' movement, which conveniently allowed them to exercise.
Mu Qingyu proposed the idea, and Mu Qingrong certainly had no objections. He always did whatever his sister said, blindly following her lead.
Han Yu had no objections. Come to think of it, he was actually the only non-superpowered person among the five. He didn't want to become a useless, dragging-down piece of trash.
Having learned her lesson from last time, Ji Qingqing knew she didn't have to go, and Mu Qingyu wouldn't force her, but at the same time, Mu Qingyu would kick her out of the team.
So she didn't hesitate and followed decisively.
Mo Huaiyu was surprised that Mu Qingyu wanted him to go as well. He didn't have any objections, but he was worried that his lack of combat ability might hold everyone back.
"No, it won't happen." Mu Qingyu said to Mo Huaiyu, "Your ability is like a support class in a game. You're weak in the early stages, but become incredibly powerful in the late stages."
"Come down with us, and we'll protect you. You can try all sorts of things; perhaps you'll find a way to cooperate with us in battle, or perhaps you'll find a way to strengthen your mental power. Even if you don't find anything, it doesn't matter; at least you'll learn to face terrifying zombies head-on," Mu Qingyu said.
Mo Huaiyu nodded. He felt that Mu Qingyu made a lot of sense. More importantly, he was actually quite grateful to Mu Qingyu for giving him such an opportunity.
Before leaving, Mu Qingyu sought out Jing Chen. Jin Qinjiu's group was too unstable, so she asked Jing Chen to keep an eye on them for her. Firstly, she hadn't packed away things like tents and pots and pans—after all, she would continue to use them.
Secondly, and most importantly, they needed to prevent Jin Qinjiu and his gang from betraying them while they went down to kill zombies!
With Jingchen helping to keep an eye on things, at the very least he can open a door for them or send them a message.
Jing Chen naturally had no reason to refuse. Putting aside their cooperative relationship, Mo Huaiyu still owed him some supplies.
Mu Qingyu took Cheng Xijun's supplies and promised to share some with him. However, given the current situation, it seemed they needed to escape at any moment, and since they were planning to go to the same place, they didn't divide the supplies.
Besides that, their drinking water for the past two days has been provided by Mu Qingyu. Mu Qingyu also shared sweet potatoes with them and tomatoes with the nurses...
Therefore, no matter what, Jing Chen would not allow Jin Qinjiu's people to cause trouble.
Jing Chen was puzzled: "Why did you go downstairs to clear out the zombies? The rooftop is still safe for now. Is there something you want downstairs?" Jing Chen remembered that among Mu Qingyu's requests to Jin Qinjiu was undamaged medical equipment.
Mu Qingyu shook her head, not intending to hide her true purpose: "We're going to kill zombies to train ourselves."
She pointed downstairs: "Have you noticed? Less than a month after the apocalypse began, the clumsy and slow zombies outside have changed."
"They've become faster and more agile, and their claws have become sharper. They'll continue to evolve and grow stronger. What about us? If we keep hiding, how long can we hide? How can we improve?"
As Mu Qingyu spoke, she led her companions downstairs, and Jing Chen's men came over to relock the iron gate to the rooftop.
Jing Chen, meanwhile, fell into deep thought.
The rooftop stairs were teeming with zombies because it was the closest place to people, and therefore had the strongest "human scent."
When they saw someone coming out, they rushed forward in a rush, so many of them that they got stuck in the stairwell.
Mu Qingrong and Han Yu took the lead, both wielding military axes, and unleashed a barrage of attacks on the stuck zombies as easily as chopping vegetables.
Seeing this, Ji Qingqing quickly grabbed the large dagger Mu Qingyu had given her and rushed over to join the fray.
The hallway was so small that Mu Qingyu had no use for her skills at the back.
Mo Huaiyu activated his supernatural ability and began to survey his surroundings.
"The zombies on the entire floor are converging here... However, the corridors and stairwells are very narrow, and they're all crammed together! This is a good opportunity, everyone, let's do our best."
"Xiao Rong, watch out for the zombie claw on your right..." Mo Huaiyu warned Mu Qingrong while scanning her with his consciousness.
Just like the first time Mo Huaiyu blocked the knife for Mu Qingrong in the village, the zombie claws reaching for Mu Qingrong stopped when they were about ten centimeters away from her, and even stiffened for three to five seconds.
In those three to five seconds, Mu Qingrong could turn around and chop off the zombie's head.
"Remember, safety first. Don't get too carried away with the fighting," Mu Qingyu warned everyone, then added, "When we get back this time, I'll find some suitable clothes to upgrade everyone's equipment."
Actually, Mu Qingyu and her brother are doing alright with Mo Huaiyu.
They had been planning to leave for several days, so they had put on protective clothing beforehand. They wore protective vests underneath, which weren't as strong as proper bulletproof vests, but they were sufficient to protect against knife cuts and stabs.
Their hands and feet were also wrapped in thick, durable clothing.
Ji Qingqing and Han Yu, on the other hand, had no protective gear. Firstly, their supplies were pitifully scarce, and secondly, they had both decided to go out on short notice.
However, Ji Qingqing was incredibly brave. She was a strength-type ability user with astonishing strength. Although her knife strikes weren't fast, every strike hit its mark, slicing open the zombies' foreheads with every blow.
The downside was that the knife couldn't withstand her attacks and the blade became dull after a short time. But even with the dull blade, Ji Qingqing could still decapitate a zombie with a single blow.
Mu Qingyu couldn't bear to watch any longer, so she replaced Ji Qingqing's knife with a new one.
Thanks to Ji Qingqing's bravery, Mu Qingrong is now under no pressure. So, seeing this, he said to Ji Qingqing, "It's alright, when I have time, I'll use my special ability to modify your knife, and I guarantee it will never dull again...emmm..."
To be more precise, Mu Qingrong quickly added, "At least when cutting down zombies of this level, I guarantee my blade won't get dull."
The three of them moved quite quickly, and in just over ten minutes, the five of them reached the third floor of the inpatient department.
