Chapter Sixty-Seven: Chief Gu's Defeated Escape
Han Yu is a bit of a jerk, quite different from when Mu Qingyu first met him. Although he's a bit annoying, he's a real fighter; Mu Qingyu sparred with him.
Moreover, Han Yu was right; even back in Han Family Village, Han Yu never stabbed her in the back.
“You ride. There’s only one request…” Mu Qingyu gave up the front seat to Han Yu.
Han Yu then straddled her without any hesitation, saying, "Hey, girl, just tell me what you want! I guarantee I can grant your request."
“Shut up! If you say another word, you’ll have to find your own ride into the city,” Mu Qingyu said coldly.
Han Yu chuckled awkwardly, making a zipper-zipping motion and a gesture for Mu Qingyu to get into the back seat.
Before Mu Qingyu could even sit down, Mu Qingrong grabbed her arm: "Sister, you give Xiao Mo a ride, I'll sit in the front." He didn't like this man at all; in his eyes, this man was no different from Chief Gu.
Of course he couldn't let his sister sit behind this person!
Mu Qingyu shook her head and refused: "Mo Huaiyu needs your care. What if we accidentally separate? Do you expect me to carry Mo Huaiyu away?"
It didn't really matter; she had a physical mutation, so carrying Mo Huaiyu on her back was effortless. But there were some things she wanted to understand, so she asked Han Yu about them on the way.
Mu Qingrong thought about it and realized it made sense. He had promised to bring Mo Huaiyu along so he could take care of him. If they got separated, wouldn't that mean leaving Mo Huaiyu with his sister?
So they set off, two cars and four people, speeding out of the village.
Not long after the two cars left, a motorcycle sped up and closely followed behind them.
"That short-haired girl seems to be following us," Han Yu noticed after the car had driven for a while and said with a smile.
"Don't worry about her, it's not like I own the main road." Mu Qingyu said, poking Han Yu's back. "But what's going on with you two? Weren't you all so high and mighty just a few days ago?"
Han Yu chuckled twice, then stopped trying to be clever and recounted exactly what had happened after Mu Qingyu left.
Let's go back to the night Mu Qingyu and her brother went on a shopping spree and left.
Chief Gu and Lao Liu had a falling out; one went back to the entertainment center, while the other sulked in the ancestral hall.
Then it caught fire.
The sixth brother was a fire-type ability user, and Gu Jianye's first reaction was that the sixth brother wanted to burn him to death to seize the throne, so he was naturally furious. However, the fire grew larger, and he was unable to escape from the ancestral hall for the time being.
Meanwhile, Lao Liu and his group of supporters had been partying all night at the entertainment center, some drinking and some sleeping. Until Lao Liu returned in a rage, and immediately started cursing at Chief Gu.
This place is full of Lao Liu's men, so naturally they all agree with him and are united in their hatred of the enemy.
As a result, a huge fire broke out outside.
Lao Liu's first reaction was the same as Gu Jianye's: he thought that Gu Jianye was going to kill him in a fit of rage! Coupled with the fact that he was angry and had been drinking that night, this idea was deeply ingrained.
The first thing Lao Liu did wasn't to put out the fire, but to confront Gu Jianye. Others were afraid of Gu Jianye, but Lao Liu wasn't afraid at all.
Lao Liu knew Gu Jianye's background well; he was just a liar. What was there to be afraid of with lightning abilities? He also had fire abilities!
So the first thing Lao Liu did after rushing out of the fire was to rush into the ancestral hall while cursing, ready to finish off Gu Jianye as soon as possible.
Seeing this, Gu Jianye became even more certain that Lao Liu wanted to harm him. Of course, he couldn't just sit and wait to die, so the two of them started fighting.
Old Six was clearly no match for Gu Jianye in a one-on-one fight, but he had the numbers, and more people arrived later to join the battle. All of them were drunk and their eyes were bloodshot.
When Han Yu arrived with Gu Jianye's men, Gu Jianye had also lost a leg, and Lao Liu had been shot in the shoulder by Gu Jianye.
The fire was quickly extinguished. It started from the outer wall. The house was made of reinforced concrete, so there wasn't much combustible material. Once the gasoline and combustible material were burned out, the fire subsided. Other villagers rushed to help put out the fire, and it was quickly extinguished.
However, regardless of whether it was Lao Liufang or Gu Jianye's side, some people were injured or killed in the fight.
In other words, the fire didn't actually kill anyone, but it sparked a fight between the two factions, during which people died.
After Gu Jianye and Lao Liu were injured that night, the two factions each occupied a part of the village, forming a stalemate.
In reality, Gu Jianye was in retreat. Although Lao Liu was injured, he had more men and occupied the village's advantageous geographical location.
The supplies they had originally collected were also taken into control by Lao Liu and his gang, including most of the villagers at the time.
In the following days, the two factions fought several more battles over the seizure of supplies and villagers, resulting in losses on both sides.
Ultimately, Gu Jianye was inferior to Lao Liu in both numbers and resources.
So, the day before Han Yu and Gu Jianye fled to Mu Qingyu's village, one of Gu Jianye's men betrayed them.
Taking advantage of the heavy rain, they coordinated from within and without to take down Gu Jianye's last stronghold.
Gu Jianye was almost deserted by everyone, and in the end, only Han Yu led him to escape in a sorry state.
It was raining heavily the whole way, but thankfully there weren't many zombies outside after the rain. It was also fortunate that both of them were superhumans, with better stamina than ordinary people; otherwise, they would have been killed on the road before they even found Mu Qingyu's village.
Even so, Gu Jianye's injured leg still became inflamed. After all, they were just superhumans with relatively strong immune systems, not gods who were immune to all diseases.
That's how Han Yu came to change the dressing later.
“We escaped, and I lost my hunting rifle. We have no food or medicine on us. So, on this trip, besides finding food, I also need to find some medicine.” Han Yu spoke with unusual seriousness, and telling stories didn’t stop him from riding his bicycle: “Your medicine has limited effect. His injuries are quite serious. During the escape, his wounds were soaked in water, and who knows what kind of dirty things were in that water. He has become quite infected.”
After Han Yu finished telling her story, Mu Qingyu became even more curious.
This man led Gu Jianye on his escape, changing his dressings and fetching medicine for him; he must have cared about Gu Jianye a lot.
But that day, Mu Qingyu felt that Han Yu probably already knew when she and Xiao Rong set the fire, and that he might even have blocked them at the village entrance.
Even if Han Yu didn't intend to settle scores with the siblings, he should have stopped them from setting the fire or returned to Gu Jianye's side as soon as the fire started burning.
However, he didn't. He remained a bystander, tacitly allowing everything to happen, and even arrived late when Gu Jianye was on the verge of losing.
I don't understand, I really don't understand.
