Chapter 37 The Child's Cry

Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Child's Cry

What Mu Qingyu loves most now is Mu Qingrong's smile, untouched by any sorrow. As long as this pure Mu Qingrong exists, her rebirth will always be meaningful.

What is the hardest thing for people? What is the hardest thing in the end times? It's the meaning of life! As long as your will doesn't break, no matter how difficult the end times are, you can continue to live bravely!

"Hurry home, dinner is waiting for you to show off your skills. I wonder if your little puppy is hungry," Mu Qingyu replied.

Upon hearing this, Mu Qingrong was immediately eager to return home. Fortunately, her home wasn't far away.

When the two returned home, they discovered that someone was secretly observing them from Building 2. Mu Qingyu only glanced at Building 2 before going home.

Let's observe further. So far, it seems the second person who moved in doesn't seem to have any ill intentions towards them; they're probably just curious. As long as they don't cause trouble, Mu Qingyu doesn't mind having a couple more neighbors.

When Mu Qingrong got home, she fed the puppy first, and then rolled up her sleeves and went to the kitchen to show off her cooking skills.

"What are you planning to do?" Mu Qingyu asked him.

"Let's start with something simple: braised pork, braised eggplant, and egg drop soup," Mu Qingrong replied confidently.

These are all materials they have in their refrigerator.

Mu Qingyu nodded. She didn't sit idle either. First, she put the dinner in the rice cooker to cook, and then she helped Mu Qingrong wash and chop the food.

Half an hour later...

The siblings stood beside the pot, staring at the dark mass inside.

Mu Qingyu tilted her head, her face full of disbelief: "You call this braised pork?!"

"I...it was just a mistake, I didn't control the heat well! It was my first time making it, sister, give me another chance, I'll definitely make braised eggplant!" Mu Qingrong wiped the sweat from her forehead and assured her again.

Mu Qingyu stared at Mu Qingrong suspiciously for a long time, but in the end she did not stop him from making the next dish.

Ten minutes later, Mu Qingyu smelled smoke and ran out of the room.

She thought it was on fire! But, although it wasn't, the pot billowing black smoke looked even more appalling than if it were on fire...

Mu Qingrong's face was also blackened by the smoke. He stared at Mu Qingyu with innocent eyes and said, "This...this heat...seems a bit hard to control..." His voice grew softer and softer as he spoke.

"Is it a problem with the heat?" Mu Qingyu asked with a wry smile. Oh well, neither she nor her brother had any talent for cooking; they weren't even as good as her at making scrambled eggs with tomatoes!

The food was burnt to a crisp and was clearly inedible, and the kitchen was a complete mess. So the two of them cleaned up until dark, and still hadn't had dinner.

Mu Qingrong looked extremely frustrated. Not only had he failed to fulfill his promise to showcase his culinary skills, but he had also wasted a lot of precious food.

"I'm sorry, sister." Mu Qingrong lowered her head, full of guilt.

Mu Qingyu slumped in her dining chair, exhausted, and tossed a piece of bread to Mu Qingrong, saying, "Alright, let's both give up on practicing cooking. I think this kind of thing requires talent. We'll just have bread for dinner tonight, and I'll go see Aunt Mei tomorrow to discuss cooking together."

Mu Qingrong has now come to realize that she is indeed less talented in cooking than Mu Qingyu.

After dinner, the two went back to their room to rest early. Since there was no electricity, they figured they should go to bed as soon as possible.

Mu Qingyu went straight into the space. She had obtained the space a month ago, but hadn't had time to properly explore it.

The space was still shrouded in thick fog, but Mu Qingyu vaguely felt that something had changed, though she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.

The supplies that Mu Qingyu had previously packed into her space did not fill it completely. She used the time she had to organize the supplies with her mind and placed them along the edge of the thick fog, like surrounding a castle, thus enclosing the wooden house in the center and the pool of water not far away.

Since Mu Qingyu didn't lack water at the moment, whether it was drinking water or domestic water, she hadn't touched the water in that pool.

But she wasn't entirely without curiosity. She had tried scooping some out with her hands a few times before without finding any danger. Today, she tried putting some in her mouth. It was sweet and didn't have any strange taste. It seemed like it was drinkable.

Mu Qingyu remembered that she had bought live fish and shrimp at the seafood market before. The space could keep the food fresh, but she wondered if it could keep it alive!

She pulled out the large boxes of seafood and regretfully discovered that the fish and shrimp were all dead, but the seafood was still fresh. Well, it was a pity, but at least it was still edible.

The cabin remained empty, except for two strange numbers, "17," on the wooden door, which seemed to have "grown" out of the door.

Mu Qingyu didn't know if the number was originally there but she hadn't noticed it before, or if it appeared later.

Unable to figure it out, Mu Qingyu gave up on thinking about it. Since she could move things using her mind within the space, she simply started furnishing the small wooden house. She put all the necessary furniture inside, turning it into a truly habitable house.

Unfortunately, the flow of time inside the space is the same as outside. According to observations, Mu Qingyu can only stay in the space for a maximum of two hours each day before being ruthlessly kicked out. Wherever she enters, the opportunity returns to that place.

Fortunately, this time seems to be cumulative. For example, if she doesn't enter the Blood Jade Space today, she will have 4 hours tomorrow. If she only enters for 10 minutes tomorrow, she will have 5 hours and 50 minutes the day after, accurate to every minute and second.

Mu Qingyu even took out a packet of seeds and tried to plant them with her mind—but she couldn't do it, she simply couldn't!

They also tried artificial planting, which went smoothly; the soil could be dug up and the seeds could be planted successfully. Mu Qingyu watered the planted seeds a little; whether they would sprout or not would require time to observe.

Mu Qingyu stayed up very late before finally coming out of the space to sleep.

Mu Qingyu was awakened by a child crying in the early morning.

She first checked the time: 7:15 AM—she wasn't even fully awake! Then it dawned on her—a child?! Where did this child come from?!

She quickly got up, dressed, and casually hung the military dagger on her waist. As she opened the door to leave the room, Mu Qingrong also came out of the opposite room, dressed neatly as well.

"Sister, why is a child crying?" Mu Qingrong asked.

Mu Qingyu shook her head and walked with Mu Qingrong to the living room window to look out at the front door downstairs. She had built the door very high, and the courtyard wall was also very high, so they couldn't see what was happening at the front door now. But the child's crying was definitely coming from their own front door.
