Chapter 103 It's Okay

Chapter 103 It's Okay

The little zombie suddenly leaped onto the trunk, creating a large crater. Its five fingers, like claws, pierced through the rear window, shards of glass flying and startling the three passengers in the back, who cried out and scattered.

The car swerved in the open space, and Jiang Ye slammed on the brakes, but the centrifugal force failed to throw the little zombie away.

Bai Chenzhu heard a loud crash of a broken window behind him, with shards flying everywhere. He raised his arm to block the impact. Turning his head, he saw Tang Zhao and Liang Haoran flanking the little zombie as they climbed out of the rear window and rolled onto the ground.

It was even more powerful than a regular zombie king. It was small, with twisted limbs, and incredibly agile. Even Tang Zhao and Liang Haoran had some difficulty subduing it together. Several times, the little zombie, which darted around from tricky angles, managed to break free, leaving them with several wounds on their bodies.

Just as the little zombie was about to rush towards the vehicle, Jiang Ye pushed open the door and kicked away the little zombie that was lunging at him. It fell heavily to the ground, rolled over, and got up again. The movements were swift and required no cushioning, making one's scalp tingle.

With such speed and force, most people would be doomed if they encountered such a predator.

It was tilting its head like a wild beast, scrutinizing the humans around it.

Jiang Ye clenched his fist. In the open space, only three people could be seen surrounding the zombie, while the little zombie's eerie blood-red eyes reflected the figures of the three.

It's estimating which human is the most delicious and easiest to get its hands on.

Bai Chenzhu unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car, warily observing the scene before her. Bai Tao opened the door on the same side, and Bai Chenzhu, thinking she was about to rush out, raised her hand to stop her, saying, "Take a look first."

In a split second, the little zombie launched an attack on Tang Zhao. It roared, its mouth full of fangs, and on all fours, it shot out like an arrow, pouncing on Tang Zhao.

Tang Zhao reacted quickly, dodging the little zombie's attack, but still had a piece of cloth torn off, leaving five claw marks on his arm.

But little did they know the little zombie was in disguise; it skipped past Tang Zhao and was about to run into the forest.

Tang Zhao, who was passing by, was startled. He quickly turned around, grabbed its hind legs with both hands, and threw it in the opposite direction. It landed right next to Jiang Ye, who slammed it to the ground with an elbow.

With a muffled thud, Jiang Ye raised his foot to stomp on it, but missed. The little zombie flipped over and jumped up. Three figures rushed towards the little zombie, giving it no chance to react.

The battle was decided in just a few minutes. Jiang Ye pressed the little zombie's forehead to the ground and slammed it twice, trying to knock it unconscious and take it back.

This guy had his head covered in foul-smelling blood, but he didn't faint. Instead, he bared his teeth and roared at Jiang Ye.

Bai Chenzhu narrowed his eyes, seized the opportunity, controlled the little zombie's consciousness, and Bai Tao quickly drew out her mental power to deliver a heavy blow to its brain. Under the combined attack, the little zombie was stunned and fell to the ground in a daze, its struggling strength suddenly disappearing.

Tang Zhao, the lucky one who was chosen, blew on his wound and cursed several times.

Bai Chenzhu sensed a signal coming from a certain direction. It was a mutated creature that had come following the little zombie's spiritual power. His expression changed slightly, and he urged everyone, "Hurry up, other zombie kings are catching up."

Jiang Ye pulled out a rope and tied the little zombie up tightly, then threw it into the trunk. Bai Chenzhu concealed their tracks, and the car, avoiding the mutants, returned to the city safely, taking the little zombie to the research institute.

The research institute was extremely interested in this new zombie king. Upon learning that it was one of the culprits behind the recent disturbances near the base, they summoned personnel overnight for analysis.

——

In just three days, Bai Chenzhu received the analysis report on the little zombie. He glanced at it and sent it to Jiang Ye's office along with other materials.

Jiang Ye's expression was not as calm as his after reading the report.

Data shows that this zombie king is far more powerful than ordinary zombies, with a high concentration of virus in its body and a high degree of mutation, making it incomparable to wild zombie kings.

And there's more than one zombie king. If these zombie kings are allowed to emerge, the consequences will be dire. Even before they finish devouring each other, as long as they remain interested in mental energy, the people inside the base will be in danger.

Bai Chenzhu sat by the table, toying with the pen on it. "So now we need to deal with these released zombies and stop the alien race from continuing their research."

Once they start, they'll start again. If things drag on, nobody knows what else they might come up with.

"Hmm." Jiang Ye, who was sitting down, suddenly looked up at him and asked, "Do you remember the communicator that you and Tang Zhao took away?"

Bai Chenzhu paused, resting the pen tip on his chin thoughtfully. "I remember. I also remember when Tang Zhao started it."

He and Tang Zhao went their separate ways. Tang Zhao took the communicator and lured away the alien pursuers. No one knows what happened next.

Bai Chenzhu put down his pen and slapped his forehead. "How could I have forgotten about it?"

Speaking of communicators, that's what they've been looking for all along.

Jiang Ye raised an eyebrow. "But the alien races don't know that we've found them all. They were just caught off guard by our search for the communicator fragments. Didn't we have a meeting later? I had all the lords spread the word about the search for the fragments, and now the fish have taken the bait."

"What do you want to do?" Bai Chenzhu thought for a moment, thinking that to catch the thief, you must first catch the king, but he shook his head, "Kula won't come out."

“Yes, but we can catch something else. Think about it, besides you, who else can sense the communicator fragments?” Jiang Ye blinked.

Bai Chenzhu's mind clicked. "Male insects. Their males have spiritual power."

Jiang Ye smiled at him, and Bai Chenzhu understood immediately, "You want to capture them? You want to use them to threaten the alien race?"

“We are at a disadvantage, and we have always been unequal with the alien races. Right now, it's just that we haven't touched their fundamental interests, so they don't intend to confront us head-on. But once they know that we have activated the communicator,” Jiang Ye said, “if you were them, what would you do?”

“It’s very simple.” Bai Chenzhu didn’t even need to think much. “If it were me, I would blow up Blue Star and end it all.”

He remembered something, "So they really don't have those kinds of highly destructive weapons, right? If they did, why haven't they used them?"

He looked at Jiang Ye, and Jiang Ye looked at him too.

Jiang Ye shrugged. "Baby, guess how I died in my past life?"

He had long forgotten the book, only remembering the scene where Jiang Ye showed off, and the subsequent descriptions of light, dust, and loud noises—who knows what they were meant to describe?

Bai Chenzhu asked earnestly, "...Could it really be that he was blown up?"

"Hmm. Because the alien race was impersonating an envoy from the Alliance, I exposed their true colors, and they activated a space-destroying weapon, resulting in mutual destruction. This is a huge threat. I still want to live a good life with you, so I have to find something to make them hesitate to act against me."

"You've taken a liking to the male insect."

"Hey, hey, hey!" Jiang Ye hurriedly said, "That's a very ambiguous statement!"

Bai Chenzhu leaned against the table and laughed, his body trembling uncontrollably.

After laughing enough, he cleared his throat. "Since it involves mental power, please let me join the team that's going to lure the male insects. Maybe I can be of some help."

Jiang Ye frowned, disagreeing with his hasty decision. "Honey, I haven't even said whether I'm going or not."

"Hmm?" Bai Chenzhu understood what he meant, crossed her arms and looked at him, "It doesn't matter whether you go or not, I want to go."

He used to think it didn't matter, but now he looked at Jiang Ye and said, "Since this is the world we're going to live in from now on, I want to make as much contribution as possible to it."

"Us?" Jiang Ye was slightly taken aback, blinked, and felt a soft, warm feeling in his heart, like a cuddly rabbit bouncing around, making him speechless for a moment.

He hesitated, not wanting Bai Chenzhu to leave his side. "Given the current situation, the Zombie King might attack the city. This is a threat, and I have to stay here."

Bai Chenzhu waved his hand and said, "It's okay, I can go by myself."

How could you say that so easily? Jiang Ye was unhappy. He crossed his arms and put his legs on the edge of the table, making the chair creak and sway.

Bai Chenzhu leaned closer, raised his hand, and poked Jiang Ye's cheek, mimicking how Jiang Ye used to poke him. "Why is this cheek so swollen?"

Jiang Ye clicked his tongue in surprise, "Where's the drum?"

Bai Chenzhu smiled and said, "I think it's a drum."

Jiang Ye snorted coldly and turned his head away.

Bai Chenzhu stared at him for a moment. Jiang Ye could sense that gaze, but he was holding his breath and didn't want Bai Chenzhu to leave. He wanted Bai Chenzhu to change his mind on his own, so he didn't turn around.

Jiang Ye was startled when a soft touch brushed against his cheek. He flipped his chair backward and crashed to the ground with a thud.

Such a big reaction? Bai Chenzhu was stunned, still bent over, and looked at Jiang Ye, who had gotten up from the ground.

"I... cough, it was an accident. This chair is broken and needs to be replaced." Jiang Ye helped himself up, awkwardly rubbing his nose and lowering his head. "Well, well, that doesn't count."

Bai Chenzhu straightened up, beaming with delight, "Doesn't that count?"

“No!” Jiang Ye said firmly, pointing to his mouth. “At least here.”

Bai Chenzhu moved closer, slowly, gradually closing the distance. Jiang Ye stared at the crimson stain, and just as he was holding his breath, unable to resist leaning forward to press his head against it, Bai Chenzhu stepped back, returning to her original position, her phoenix eyes full of smiles.

"I'm not going to play along with your antics in the office. We'll talk about it when we get home tonight." He didn't want anyone else to barge in; that would be embarrassing enough.

Jiang Ye gritted his teeth. "But I'm still angry."

Bai Chenzhu, being mischievous, pretended to be nonchalant and said, "Oh."

Jiang Ye grabbed his hand, rolled up his sleeve, and bit his wrist in anger.

Despite its fierce appearance, it didn't even break the skin, just got a mouthful of water, and started playfully rubbing the soft flesh around in its mouth.

Bai Chenzhu let him fool around, patted Jiang Ye on the back of the head, and changed his attention, "By the way, I haven't heard anything about the Space Alliance at the base, so did the communicator fail to start?"

But Jiang Ye's tone didn't seem to match.

"You still have the mind to think about the communicator!" Jiang Ye accused.

Bai Chenzhu looked at him innocently, "Is there anything wrong with talking about this in the office?"

Yes, absolutely right.

Jiang Ye knew he was in the wrong, so he released Bai Chenzhu. "There's nothing wrong with it. The communicator started successfully."

He bent down and touched the bottom cabinet, then suddenly pulled out a ball.

The ball was packaged very simply, just a few layers of old newspapers pasted on the outside. It was thrown into the back of the cabinet, sandwiched among a pile of miscellaneous items, and didn't look like anything valuable.

Even though they were already familiar with each other, Bai Chenzhu was still speechless at Jiang Ye's style. "Is this how you treat it?"

If you didn't tell anyone, you wouldn't know that this 'ball' is such a precious thing! It's enough to determine the fate of humankind right now.

"Are we going to enshrine it?" Jiang Ye didn't think there was a problem. He pushed aside the newspaper, and the communicator rose in his palm. Two rings moved around the sphere, emitting a faint light.

"It has started up successfully, and there have been several flashes of light, but I can't understand what they mean."

Jiang Ye held the 'ball' in one hand and stroked his chin. "Even without the communicator in my past life, the Alliance still came. At least ten years later, humanity at that time knew of the existence of extraterrestrial races and spent years researching and sending distress signals into space, which received a response. It's just a pity that the alien races arrived first with the 'antidote'... I know that the leader and the alien races are not on good terms. If only we could know the exact time and place of their arrival this time."

"Let me try." Bai Chenzhu raised his hand and placed it on the communicator. Jiang Ye watched from the side, and could vaguely sense the changing spiritual energy in the air.

Just when he thought Bai Chenzhu had returned empty-handed, the communicator emitted wave after wave of invisible spiritual energy from the inside out, like ripples spreading across the surface of a pond.

Bai Chenzhu carefully pondered this.

Time passed by, and Jiang Ye grew increasingly anxious. Just as he was hesitating whether to call out to Bai Chenzhu, Bai Chenzhu opened his eyes, a glint of light flashing in them.

“I ‘saw’ ships among the stars.”

After he channeled his mental energy into the 'core' of the ball, his field of vision suddenly became much wider, or rather, he gained the perspective of the communicator.

It was a blue planet in the universe, and countless wisps of spiritual energy surged towards the small ball in the hand. The ball emitted a ray into the universe, and at the other end of the ray, a ship was heading towards the blue planet.

What a pleasant surprise! Jiang Ye's eyes widened, and she excitedly grabbed his shoulders. "Really?"

"Give me some time, and I can estimate the approximate time it will take for the ship to land," Bai Chenzhu said, her eyes crinkling into a smile.
