Chapter 18 The Bad Rabbit

Chapter 18 The Bad Rabbit

Bai Chenzhu scrutinized his face, confirming that she could find nothing amiss.

He shielded his eyes with his arm, looking troubled. "No. I just... really like this book. We were just talking about superpowers, and I thought you were a fan of this book too, so I changed the subject."

He came up with a very careless and lame excuse.

"Oh, I see." Jiang Ye tapped his knee with his fingers, his gaze drifting to the dim sky outside the window. "So that's how it is."

He finally understood how the 'little butterfly' came to be.

Just when Bai Chenzhu thought the conversation was over, Jiang Ye suddenly chuckled and said to him very seriously, "Have you ever heard the saying, 'History is written by the victors, but the truth is only known to those who experienced it firsthand'?"

Why is Jiang Ye suddenly bringing this up? Bai Chenzhu frowned in thought, "What are you trying to say?"

Jiang Ye shrugged, reverting to his usual nonchalant demeanor. "Literally, I advise you not to take books as reality."

But this book is clearly just a novel, and the author is just an ordinary otaku. The mystery in front of Bai Chenzhu grew bigger and bigger like a snowball. He looked at Jiang Ye thoughtfully, "Sometimes I feel like you know everything."

"No one is omniscient or omnipotent." Jiang Ye didn't want to continue. He said he was sleepy, so he yawned, got up, went to bed, wrapped himself in the blanket like a caterpillar, and closed his eyes to sleep.

Bai Chenzhu went over and pulled the blanket over him. He turned over, closed his eyes, and didn't make a sound no matter how much Bai Chenzhu asked him.

"Tsk, Jiang Ye!" Bai Chenzhu knelt on one knee behind him, competing with Jiang Ye, pulling on the blanket like in a tug-of-war. However, he was no match for Jiang Ye, who had become a 'strongman', and after pulling for a long time, he still couldn't budge the blanket.

Bai Chenzhu was already certain that Jiang Ye was deliberately keeping him hanging, so he was very unhappy. "People can't be so hypocritical. You just said that people can't only say half of what they mean."

"Hmm." Jiang Ye finally opened one eye to look at people.

Just as Bai Chenzhu thought Jiang Ye was about to say something, Jiang Ye turned around, stretched out an arm, and snapped all the lights off over Bai Chenzhu.

In the pitch-black night, Jiang Ye's voice echoed softly: "So what if I'm being hypocritical? What are you going to do about it?"

"You just wait." Bai Chenzhu laughed in exasperation; he had never seen such an infuriating person. He clenched his fist, reached out to press the light switch, intending to give this guy a good beating as soon as the light was on.

Jiang Ye stopped Bai Chenzhu from turning on the light.

In the darkness, they couldn't see each other's expressions, yet they were locked in a strange stalemate, staring in each other's direction.

Bai Chenzhu said unhappily, "Jiang Ye, from the beginning you used 'superpowers' to string me along, and now you're dodging the question. You've never intended to talk to me properly. I don't like hypocritical and cunning liars."

His tone was icy, filled with resentment; his anger was like a small pot of boiling water, billowing with white steam, the boiling water about to spill out.

Jiang Ye hesitated, then released Bai Chenzhu's hand, and the room lights came on, allowing them to see each other's faces clearly.

Bai Chenzhu sat down beside him, tugged at his blanket, and said coldly, "Are you sure you want to stay silent like this? A rabbit that can't get a carrot will bite."

"Only a bad rabbit bites." Seeing that his attitude had softened, Jiang Ye curled his lips and relaxed a little.

He sighed deeply and surrendered, "Alright, let's talk about what just happened. It's not that I don't want to talk about it, it's just that there's nothing to say. I don't know more than you do."

No more than me? That means no less than me either. Bai Chenzhu squinted at him, scrutinizing him, a guess forming in her mind. "Swear it."

Just how low is his credit score with Bai Chenzhu! Jiang Ye gritted his teeth, determined to behave himself, and said with aggrieved resentment, "I swear."

Bai Chenzhu made a startling statement: "You swear you have no memory of your past life."

Jiang Ye:......

Forget it, he's just not a decent human being.

Well, still pretending. Bai Chenzhu raised an eyebrow, but Jiang Ye remained silent for a long time.

The two stared at each other for a while. Bai Chenzhu vaguely realized something from his expression and smiled to himself. His shoulders twitched slightly, and his smile was gentle and warm. It was a smile of knowing what was going on.

Jiang Ye muttered, "Bad rabbit."

"Mmm." Bai Chenzhu felt relieved to receive the answer. She gently covered him with the blanket, her movements carrying a hint of assertiveness. She propped herself up on one hand by his ear and looked down at him.

Instead of pressing Jiang Ye about the previous question, Bai Chenzhu changed the subject and asked, "The second thing you've been hiding from me is your superpower. Tell me, what is my superpower? Is my constitution changed because of this superpower? Will I continue to have fevers and be weak in the future?"

"You ask too many questions." Jiang Ye turned his head impatiently, trying to avoid the question.

But Bai Chenzhu turned her face back to him.

Jiang Ye looked directly at that refined and elegant face, his eyes changing slightly before quickly regaining their nonchalant demeanor. "Alright, your ability is probably mental. Mental ability means being able to use mental power, but how you use it varies from person to person. There's plenty of time; you'll gradually discover your own unique abilities."

"All things in the world tend towards balance; there is gain and loss. Because the mutation of mental power exceeds the limits that the body can withstand, mental abilities are usually accompanied by physical weakness. The stronger the ability, the weaker the body. Improper use can even lead to death."

"How is it? Is this radish delicious?" Jiang Ye raised his chin.

Clearly, Bai Chenzhu was not satisfied with these answers. He was about to get up and leave when Jiang Ye grabbed his forearm.

Jiang Ye raised an eyebrow and said, "Do you know that before a psychic ability user grows up, their overflowing mental energy is like a delicious feast running around in the streets, which can easily be 'eaten' by various mutants? So, I'm saving you."

Bai Chenzhu stared at him for a moment. "You only talked about the downsides of my ability, but didn't mention the advantages. What, are you really some kind of bodhisattva who likes to save people everywhere? Do you want me to be grateful to you now?"

"Sure," Jiang Ye said without hesitation, his shamelessness leaving Bai Chenzhu speechless. He released his grip, his arrogant face full of curiosity. "Now, it's my turn to ask a question. What was the final fate of that villainous protagonist?"

Bai Chenzhu glanced at him, her gaze lowered, her voice low as she spoke, seemingly unwilling for Jiang Ye to hear her.

Jiang Ye had a bad feeling from his expression, and sat up to repeat the question.

Bai Chenzhu paused for a moment, then said, "Let's perish together."

Jiang Ye's face was blank, and he remained silent for a long time.

In the stillness, Bai Chenzhu didn't know what the other person was thinking, but it was clear that the other person was not in a good mood. Just a moment ago, they were talking a lot, but in the blink of an eye, they fell into deep thought, with a serious expression.

Bai Chenzhu pinched his fingertips, then slowly raised his hand to cover Jiang Ye's eyes. "Don't think about it anymore, it was just a nightmare. Get some rest, goodnight."

"……good evening."

The lights went out.

Jiang Ye turned his back to him. Bai Chenzhu glanced at him a few times, only able to vaguely make out a figure in the darkness. He turned over, his back to the other man, his mind also preoccupied.

Did he remember it wrong?

What was the final fate of Jiang Ye, the Jiang Ye from the book? Bai Chenzhu clenched his fists, as if a book had truly appeared in his mind. He searched through his memories, trying to piece together the details from the scattered recollections.

But that's too difficult. He only got a general idea back then, and now he wants the details, which is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

However, what he didn't know was that after he closed his eyes, invisible fine lines emanated from his body, circling around his head, trying to find something in his mind.

Bai Chenzhu frowned. In his half-dream, half-awake state, the fragmented words of the ending were strung together by his spiritual power and transformed into a real scene.

————

The man who barged in with his elite team was so young, his sinister brows furrowed with a heavy expression. No one present was a match for him; they could only watch helplessly as he rudely kicked the base's leader away, embedding him in the wall, and then forcefully picked up the vial of medicine.

He swirled the golden liquid in the test tube, while the people behind him guarded the door and kept everyone under control.

No matter how much the people in the room screamed and shouted, it did not shake the elites' absolute trust and obedience to Jiang Ye.

"Jiang Ye! Stop being so stubborn!" It was anger.

"Put it down, and we can talk things out. We can discuss anything, you can ask for anything." It's a plea.

"That is humanity's last hope!" is persuasion.

...

"Hope?" Jiang Ye finally reacted.

His dark eyes flickered slightly, and he squeezed out two words. He turned his head, a mocking smile playing on his lips, and loosened his grip on their hands, leaving them in disbelief.

The test tube fell to the ground without any damage, but Jiang Ye stomped on it and smashed it.

The medicine bottle, made of special materials, was crushed to pieces, scattering sparkling fragments. The force was so great that it even dented the ground, and the medicine spilled all over the floor.

The 'savior' who brought the test tubes was pressed down by his confidant. Jiang Ye knelt down and stepped on the head. Fragments of the test tubes, made of special materials, crushed its face. Blood streamed down its face as it screamed and begged for mercy, but it was being played with mercilessly.

Jiang Ye's dark eyes gleamed with a chilling light as he looked down at it, his killing intent undisguised. "Lick it clean."

At the end of the dream, the warning of an enemy attack on the base rang out. Some begged for mercy in terror, some took advantage of the chaos, and some fled in disarray. The crowd in the dream was in complete disarray, becoming a chaotic background.

Jiang Ye seemed to sense something and looked precisely in the direction of Bai Chenzhu.

The wall behind him was smashed through, his clothes fluttered in the wind, and the murderous intent in his eyes was still there, piercing directly into Bai Chenzhu's heart and sending chills down one's spine.

Bai Chenzhu realized the gap between them and understood that if he were killed by this 'Jiang Ye', he would be powerless to fight back.

The white light grew larger and larger, and the sharp, eerie sound grew louder and louder until it enveloped the entire bizarre, distorted world. Everything before his eyes was being annihilated, and Bai Chenzhu used all his strength to resist and attack the surging power.

Within that surging power, he sensed Jiang Ye's presence. Therefore, all his mental energy flowed unreservedly toward the only reality within this illusory dream.

The deafening roar obliterated everything, and he fell from the void into the deathly darkness. Countless invisible wisps of energy emanated from his body, struggling to rise and enveloping him completely.

————

In the dead of night, Jiang Ye suddenly opened his eyes. He quickly sat up, his fingers cupping his face as he breathed heavily. Through his fingers, he could vaguely see his bloodshot eyes. A sense of crisis pressed on his nerves, urging him to destroy.

There was no one by his bedside in the dead of night. The active spiritual energy in the void was still moving, extremely aggressive, and was eyeing him menacingly.

He turned his head abruptly in anger, a bloodthirsty murderous intent flashing in his eyes, which then turned into astonishment.

The one lurking by the bedside, trying to attack his mental energy, was Bai Chenzhu?!
