Chapter 29 Stop Singing
Bai Tao was overjoyed with her progress and followed Jiang Ye like a little tail.
Inside the car, Bai Chenzhu closed his eyes and felt the two small points of light getting further and further away from them, while at the other end of the blurry outline, several points of light were densely clustered together.
In his 'vision', as he went deeper, the outline of the house became taller and more exquisite. Finally, looking towards the center, he could even see a house shaped like a castle. The artificial mountain and waterfall next to the house, which were nearly three stories high, were breathtaking.
Zhou Zhuohua glanced at Bai Chenzhu, who seemed to be asleep, got out of the car, stretched, and played with a stick by the car door. A sharp glint occasionally appeared behind his glasses.
Bai Chenzhu used his mental power to guide the two of them, turning left and right to the largest house. Along the way, they occasionally encountered some scattered small points of light, but fortunately, the two of them seemed to have dealt with them.
As the distance increased, Bai Chenzhu's breathing gradually became heavier, and his complexion became transparent.
"Are you alright?" Zhou Zhuohua leaned against the car window and touched his forehead, which was covered in cold sweat. "Is it too strenuous?"
On the third day after learning of his abilities, Bai Chenzhu was so eager to verify them that, frankly, he felt he had overestimated himself.
He slowly pushed Zhou Zhuohua's hand away, opened his eyes, stared blankly at his bandaged leg, and said softly, "They've met again. I'm a little worried."
As the distance increased, his mental strength gradually couldn't keep up with their speed. The closer he got to the villa in the middle, the weaker his mental strength became, and he even felt something resisting him.
Just now, he gave them directions one last time, and they successfully arrived at the villa, but at the same time, their contact was completely severed.
Before the connection was broken, he clearly sensed two familiar small lights and a small team confronting each other.
I don't know how they are doing, but that villa always gives me a very uncomfortable feeling.
“Sister Hua, actually I can walk now. How about…” Bai Chenzhu rubbed his temples, looking thoughtfully at the iron gate.
"Don't even think about it!" Zhou Zhuohua interrupted him. "It takes a hundred days to recover from a broken bone. Even if it looks fine, what if it tears open again? I'll still have to clean it up. Besides, things are different now. What if we don't get infected with the zombie virus but end up dying from tetanus?"
"I didn't say anything, Sister Hua." Bai Chenzhu shrugged helplessly, leaned out of the car window, and looked around.
This affluent neighborhood is hidden deep within a residential area, very secluded, yet it is still surrounded by many residents.
At this time, more or less zombies walked numbly on the road, dazed and confused, unaware of the passage of time. Some would even fight each other until one devoured the other.
It's really strange, there were clearly many humans in the villa area, but there were no zombies in the community.
Bai Chenzhu looked about fifty meters away and saw two zombies fighting.
He tried to focus his attention on one of them, brutally and directly draining his mental energy. He saw the zombie stop moving and begin to search for something in confusion, like a donkey being dangled on a carrot.
Seeing the scene as he had expected, Bai Chenzhu breathed a sigh of relief and made up his mind. "Sister Hua, I suddenly have an idea."
Under Zhou Zhuohua's wary gaze, he pointed towards the zombies, "Look over there. Now we know that mental energy can attract monsters, and I can project this strange power. Does that mean..."
Bai Chenzhu smiled slightly, his dark eyes like unfathomable abysses, filled with an intense desire for control. "Can I make them work for me?"
Zhou Zhuohua became interested. She remained silent for two minutes, then quickly opened the driver's side door and got in. Seeing that she understood, Bai Chenzhu in the passenger seat quickly fastened his seatbelt.
“In that case, let’s go pick them up.” Zhou Zhuohua turned on the key.
“Slow down,” Bai Chenzhu looked back. “Their limbs are not very coordinated, and they can’t keep up with people’s running speed. If you go too fast, they might not be able to keep up.”
"Furthermore, there aren't enough mutants around here; we need to circle around the area."
"Understood." Zhou Zhuohua adjusted his glasses. "Xiao Bai, given your current situation, how many can you attract?"
Bai Chenzhu estimated, "Not many, maybe a dozen or twenty? In my estimation, there are no more than thirty people inside, and very few mutants, only three or four."
"That's enough." Zhou Zhuohua took a deep breath, preparing herself mentally. She stepped on the gas, and the SUV roared like a lurking beast, then disappeared through the back door after a turn.
Meanwhile—
The fight broke out and became quite chaotic. Bai Tao cleverly hid herself, while Jiang Ye, a bystander, single-handedly took on five guys.
Only after they were sure they were safe did Bai Tao tiptoe to his side. "Are we safe? What did Brother Bai say?"
“They’ve lost contact.” Jiang Ye wiped his sweat, glanced at Bai Tao, and casually picked up the five unconscious people and threw them out the door one by one.
"Halt! Who are you people?!" Someone noticed the commotion and shouted, startling everyone around. The people who rushed over were armed and quickly gathered into a crowd.
Jiang Ye threw out the men who were chasing them, quickly locked the gate, and tightly bound it with iron chains several times.
"Stop them!" The pursuers tugged at the iron chains on the gate, but failed to pry it open in a short time. So they all climbed onto the wall, and some even fell into the courtyard, rushing over to try to grab them.
In their sight, the girl beside the man was jumping and shouting impatiently, "Sleep, sleep, sleep! Everyone go to sleep! Go to sleep now!"
The shrill voice was piercing, and under the stares of everyone who thought she was crazy, Bai Tao blushed furiously. But she didn't know any other way to express herself, so she could only shout relentlessly, each shout louder than the last, "Sleep! Go to sleep!"
The person inside the courtyard shook his head, which suddenly started to ache, but didn't pay much attention to it.
The person outside tried to drown out Bai Tao's voice, shouting loudly, "Hurry up and take down those two guys!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the person inside the courtyard cried out in pain and collapsed to the ground, tools clattering all over the floor, in front of the bewildered onlookers outside.
People keep climbing the wall.
Bai Tao suddenly screamed and grabbed Jiang Ye's sleeve. Jiang Ye, who had just thrown everyone out, turned around and saw a person dressed in black silently appear and grab Bai Tao.
He held a knife to Bai Tao's neck with one hand and covered Bai Tao's mouth with the other.
"Who are you?" the man in black asked in a hoarse voice.
The earplugs were so effective that Jiang Ye could only see his mouth opening and closing. After a brief hesitation, he removed the foam from his left ear.
Bai Tao uses her mental power through sound, showing no distinction between friend and foe. Jiang Ye had plugged his ears from the beginning to protect himself from Bai Tao's mental power, but unexpectedly, this prevented him from noticing that Bai Tao was being threatened in time.
Jiang Ye stared at those bloodshot eyes and suddenly asked, "Who are you? Where is Tang Jie?"
Upon hearing Tang Jie's name, the man in black looked surprised. Jiang Ye swiftly deflected the masked man's knife with a blur, then deftly pinned him down by the waist.
"Release Brother Liang!" The group outside kicked the openwork iron gate violently, even trying to climb the wall, their voices almost splitting apart.
With nearly twenty people in total, Bai Tao panicked. She coughed a few times and asked Jiang Ye in a slightly hoarse voice, "What should we do?"
Jiang Ye held the masked man firmly, his meaning clear. He looked at Bai Tao, "You continue. If it really doesn't work, do you remember what I taught you?"
What did they teach? To channel spiritual energy into the blood? Bai Tao's face paled slightly. Her spiritual energy was indiscriminate, and such a method would make her hands feel as if they were being pierced by thousands of needles.
Bai Tao didn't want to experience that again. She took a deep breath and mustered the courage of a warrior lamenting his fate.
Jiang Ye:?
He had a bad feeling and quickly stuffed the sponge back in with one hand.
After her frantic shouting and yelling, Bai Tao discovered a new, easier way to use the flag. She cleared her throat, and with fervent emotion and righteous indignation, sang the song that was always played at every flag-raising ceremony: "Arise! Ye who refuse to be slaves—"
For the first time, everyone present felt a surge of heat rushing down from the top of their heads. They shouted and roared, "Stop singing! Stop singing! Stop singing!"
"Hurry up and flip over! What are you standing there for! Grab that woman first!"
The black-clad men under Jiang Ye's command were surprisingly strong. It took Jiang Ye a lot of effort to hold them down. Under these circumstances, with so many of them, there were bound to be a few who could overcome Bai Tao's mental attacks and get through to open the door.
The man in black angrily retorted, "Let me go, you can't go in!"
Doesn't this prove that Tang Jie is inside?
Just as Jiang Ye was considering using the masked man's life to threaten and force back the group of troublemakers, someone screamed, "Zombies! There are zombies!"
The voice was filled with incomprehension and disbelief.
The wheels rolled across the concrete, speeding along, followed by zombies that appeared out of nowhere.
Upon seeing the zombies, everyone's first reaction was to run! They instantly abandoned all other considerations and scattered in all directions. The leaders glanced resentfully at the car, then at the men in black inside the iron gate, and turned to flee.
Bai Tao quickly opened the iron gate, and the car sped in, stopping in the large courtyard. The zombies were slower than the car and were left far behind. Bai Tao quickly locked the gate, keeping the zombies out.
Although zombies are dangerous, from another perspective, as long as you can overcome your fear and repulsion, even zombies with simple behaviors can become your security guards.
Bai Chenzhu hopped off the car on one leg. "How's it going? Did you find them?"
"No, but we found a strange person, eh?!" Bai Tao gestured with her chin towards Jiang Ye, then stared in disbelief, "Where is that person?"
Jiang Ye rotated his right wrist and gasped, "He ran away when the door opened."
"Is he not afraid of zombies?" Although Bai Chenzhu had never seen the masked man, logically speaking, who would rush towards zombies?
"Never mind him." Zhou Zhuohua looked around the garden but couldn't find him. "Where's Tang Jie?! Let's go in and check."
The group pushed open the door, which was only half-open. The house was magnificent and exquisite, with beautiful marble sculptures and vibrant oil paintings on the walls. A winding, carved staircase led to the second floor, and the Chinese-style furniture set was elegant and grand.
However, the place was filled with all sorts of messy things: sharp shards of porcelain, torn portraits, tattered clothing...
They bypassed these things and called Tang Jie's name around the house, but there was no response.
Bai Chenzhu was too exhausted to walk any further, so he leaned against a pillar and closed his eyes to rest. The shouts of the others echoed through the villa. Jiang Ye, with his keen senses, caught a faint smell of blood.
"What's wrong? You don't look well." Bai Chenzhu hopped down to the edge of the river on one foot.
Jiang Ye squatted down with a gloomy expression and touched the brown bloodstains on the floor.
Bai Chenzhu asked in surprise, "Where did this blood come from?"
They followed the trail of blood for a few meters and came to a small, dusty door with a plaque that read: "Dahuang" (Big Yellow).
The door was locked. Jiang Ye pulled out a dagger and cleanly broke the chain. Behind the small door, in the luxurious doghouse that was half a person's height, huddled a thin man with disheveled clothes.
His neck was bound without dignity by a thick dog chain, and he lay on a tattered quilt, a bowl half-filled with blood in front of him. If it weren't for his chest still heaving, no one would have noticed him.
His wrists were haphazardly wrapped in tattered strips of cloth, blood seeping through. He seemed completely oblivious to the commotion outside, like a corpse.
Jiang Ye could still smell a strong odor as he walked over. He half-squatted down, took out a dagger, and twirled it in the air. The blade cut into the flesh with a barely audible snipping sound, severing the hard leather noose around the man's neck and leaving a ring mark.
The blood in the bowl had turned a brownish-red from oxidation. Bai Chenzhu glanced at it but couldn't bear it and looked away. "Who locked him up here and bled him? That man in black?"
Jiang Ye tried to look at the person curled up. "Tang Jie? Do you still recognize me? I'm Jiang Ye. We met when we were kids."
However, the man turned over and faced away from him.
Zhou Zhuohua was drawn by their conversation and her eyes widened in disbelief when she saw the figure. She walked over to Jiang Ye and squatted down as well, her expression complex. "Xiao Jie?"
The man paused, then simply lay down, refusing to show his face no matter what.
“How could you…” Zhou Zhuohua raised his hand, as if he wanted to touch him and check his body, but he didn’t know where to start with this body full of scars.
