Chapter 85 Seeking Feed

Chapter 85 Seeking Feed

Bai Chenzhu pulled out a novel bracelet from the storage cabinet under the workbench, put it on his wrist and poked it a couple of times. It would light up for a while and then project into the air.

He stroked his chin, his phoenix eyes filled with interest.

Interesting. A virtual phone? Or a smart terminal?

Time flies.

Bai Chenzhu was still in a daze when the spaceship's control panel suddenly flashed and said "landing imminent".

arrive?

Suddenly, a nearly honeycomb-shaped structure appeared among the mountains before them. Its smooth surface gleamed with an iron-like sheen. Bai Chenzhu speculated, "Was this 'base' originally a giant spaceship?"

"Doesn't it look like it?" Jiang Ye, who was standing to the side of him, raised his hand to indicate. "Such a huge structure is located in the middle of nowhere, but it's invisible because of the use of holographic technology. Isn't that funny?"

"It's not funny at all!" Tang Zhao, who had been shaken awake by Bai Chenzhu, rubbed his sleepy eyes, got up, and peered out the window with wide eyes. "Brother Jiang, you should say, 'This is terrible!' Falling behind isn't our fault, these uninvited 'bandits' are the worst!"

Bai Chenzhu and Jiang Ye exchanged a glance. Seeing the heaviness in Jiang Ye's eyes, he agreed with Tang Zhao's statement, "Indeed, just like the world now, ordinary people are not wrong. It is those with superpowers who are wrong to use their arrogance and superpowers to oppress ordinary people."

"Whether it's right or wrong, only the one with the bigger fist has the final say." Jiang Ye looked out the window, skipping the topic, "Let's get ready to go downstairs, we don't have much time."

——

As dusk settled, the spaceship slowed down, landed safely, and slid along its track into the sealed 'parking garage' at the top floor.

Darkness enveloped the spaceship, and all the three could see outside the window were impenetrable walls, and even the temperature seemed to be dropping rapidly. They were still wearing summer short sleeves, and Tang Zhao rubbed his arms and breathed out, "It's only July or August, how come it's so cold here?"

With a soft clang, the spaceship's idiotic insect-engineered system announced, "The spaceship has successfully entered storage. Welcome back for your next journey! Lord Ceci, the travel log for this trip has been updated to the mainframe."

These words made the three of them feel a jolt in their hearts.

Cecilia. Bai Chenzhu silently murmured the name of the insect that had been dead inside the Grand Theater for some time.

The spaceship door opened.

Bai Chenzhu grabbed his backpack. "Let's go!"

They hurriedly disembarked from the spaceship, pried open the ventilation ducts in the wall with brute force, and climbed inside.

About ten minutes later, the door on the other side of the 'parking garage' opened, and two chattering aliens came in carrying maintenance toolboxes. They looked around the empty space and the empty spaceship with a puzzled expression.

"I don't think I saw anyone go out just now."

"Perhaps we were too late to meet them; some adults just come and go in a hurry."

——

The passage was very narrow, allowing only one person to bend over and crawl through.

Tang Zhao, who was at the very end, muttered to himself, "This position is so bad that even if you had a pair of extra wings, you couldn't get anywhere."

Bai Chenzhu, who was in the middle, said: "Normally speaking, if it weren't for you, ordinary people wouldn't be able to pry open that pipe door, and ordinary alien races wouldn't be able to get in either. So they designed it this way to guard against their own people, not against us."

Aside from them, probably no other human would dare to infiltrate the alien race's stronghold. Tang Zhao thought about it carefully, then chuckled.

The map only shows the general spatial layout, but doesn't tell anyone what each individual space is used for, whether it's a room, a laboratory, or something else; the three of them can only guess.

They followed the pipe, but ended up climbing to the outer layer.

The entire base was an unstable cone shape, so they could now stand on solid ground, dust themselves off, and sit near the pipes.

It was completely dark.

Bai Chenzhu sat down, propping himself up on one leg, to calm his rapidly beating heart. He said, "Let's wait until nightfall, when they're resting, before we go look for them."

Tang Zhao suddenly had a flash of inspiration, recalling Bai Chenzhu's extensive mental search in the ancient city, and gestured, "Brother, do you think you could conduct a large-scale mental search? Let's see where the fragment is."

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Ye smacked him on the back of the head. "When you say that, think about how many male insects are here."

"Oh right!" Tang Zhao clapped his hands, belatedly realizing, "Male insects also have mental energy. If we attract them all, it will be troublesome."

He racked his brains, "Is there a more efficient way?"

Bai Chenzhu shook his head, the earring by his ear swaying slightly. He chuckled and said, "You want to take a shortcut, huh?"

"Is it wrong to take shortcuts?" Tang Zhao said confidently, sitting cross-legged.

Of course that's true, but the mischievous Jiang Ye pulled out a black brick-like 'food' from his bulging backpack to scare him. "Want some dinner?"

Tang Zhao glanced at him and then obediently shut up, humming a little tune as he looked at the sky and the ground but not at Jiang Ye, pretending to be blind.

Bai Chenzhu was quietly eating bread next to him.

Jiang Ye leaned closer, raising his hand to poke the other's cheek, but Bai Chenzhu caught him red-handed. Bai Chenzhu glanced at him sideways, and Jiang Ye reluctantly withdrew his hand.

Bai Chenzhu rummaged through his backpack, tossed a piece of chocolate to Jiang Ye, and simply said, "Eat."

This wasn't the first time Bai Chenzhu had witnessed Jiang Ye's extremely efficient way of eating: he would gulp it down in one go.

The difference is that now they still hold onto the wrapper and look at Bai Chenzhu pitifully, their eyes practically screaming: "Please feed me!"

The backpack next to them seemed to be just for decoration; there wasn't a single piece of food in it.

Bai Chenzhu pulled his backpack over, its contents unknown, it was incredibly heavy. He took a look and, good heavens, besides food, Jiang Ye had dismantled most of the unidentified items from the spaceship and brought them over.

“These are translations.” Jiang Ye took them out one by one to show him. “These should be like identity cards. I’m not sure about this one. Is this currency?”

He became increasingly uncertain as he spoke, "It's a pity they don't have weapons. Their weapons are very effective."

Jiang Ye made up his mind to go and get two later.

Why are you bringing so much?

Jiang Ye paused for a moment, then pondered, "Hmm... I think it might be useful, right?"

Bai Chenzhu tossed the shiny coins around, which had incomprehensible patterns printed on them. He glanced at them for a moment, then put them back in Jiang Ye's backpack. He took out three chocolates and two pieces of bread and placed them in Jiang Ye's hand. "Eat."

Jiang Ye was completely satisfied.

Bai Chenzhu glanced down; at this height, everything seemed tiny. Scattered alien creatures like ants on the ground, cars piled up like small mountains, excavators in use…

Bai Chenzhu finally realized where the vague sense of familiarity she had always felt came from. Her long eyelashes trembled, and when she lifted them, they revealed a chilling light beneath.

The base beneath our feet is a camp cobbled together by alien races using Earth's resources and their own technology. Ironically, while destroying human technology, they still brazenly use human artifacts.

Even now, they are still busy on the ground like ants moving house.

——

Bai Chenzhu had just dozed off next to Jiang Ye when Jiang Ye shook him awake. He opened his eyes and saw a sky full of stars replacing the twilight, and yawned blankly.

It felt like I'd only slept for five minutes! Bai Chenzhu's mind was a little foggy. He looked at Jiang Ye, who was grabbing Tang Zhao's ear and yelling, "Get up! Zombies eat brains, the moon's shining on your butt!"

Tang Zhao clutched his backside and nearly tumbled off the metal sheet. Jiang Ye mocked him mercilessly, "Cheer up! Six hours isn't enough for you to sleep?"

Tang Zhao grinned, "Not enough! I could sleep for twenty-four hours if you didn't wake me. How about we do it tomorrow night?"

Jiang Ye gave him a sharp rap on the forehead.

"You're in great spirits," Bai Chenzhu glanced at the two of them. He lazily got up, picked up his backpack, and turned his head towards the pipe. "Let's go, let's go down."

They need to go from the top floor all the way to the middle floor because the middle floor is most likely to contain valuable items.

But then again, the fact that the last fragment of the communicator, which was destroyed by the alien race, is in their base camp is hardly good news. It means they might encounter enemies even more powerful than the mutants and face an even worse situation.

There were no doors at the pipe openings. Bai Chenzhu reached out and touched the inside; it was a little dirty, but not unpleasantly so. Bai Chenzhu fell into thought, then turned to ask, "Jiang Ye, how long do you think they've been on Earth?"

Jiang Ye, standing behind him, tilted his head slightly. "Guess?"

Bai Chenzhu narrowed his eyes, a warning look in them.

"I don't know." Jiang Ye shrugged, honestly. "At this point, 'I' still don't know anything."

Bai Chenzhu didn't ask any more questions, jumped into the pipe, and said, "Follow me."

The pipe was very long. When the first ray of light appeared, Bai Chenzhu remained motionless above the wire mesh. He touched the translator by his ear, and a soft rustling sound came from inside.

The translators were also found on the spaceship; there were quite a few of them. However, it seems that the alien races in the Deer City never intended to use them and disdained to communicate with humans.

Below the wire mesh is a laboratory, containing various organisms in transparent jars of all sizes filled with liquid.

One of the alien creatures shook the tentacles on its head. "Sigh, the experiment isn't progressing, and the boss got scolded again."

"Isn't that normal?" Another alien looked at the data flashing across the electronic screen, his narrow green vertical pupils fixed on it. "Our research subjects on Earth are humans. Being separated to study these little animals is a thankless task. What, do the adults expect us to make these cute little animals evolve into humanoids?"

"That's great." The alien flapped its wings, which were almost as tall as itself, and sneered, "They have work to do and don't have to waste their lives here. By the Insect God's grace, why should we pay for their mistakes..."

"If you have any complaints, go tell Lord Kula. Don't drag me into this," the green-eyed alien interrupted it.

They don't seem very united. Bai Chenzhu listened to their conversation for a while, silently memorizing it. Laboratory, Lord Kula, humans…

This is an experimental base primarily used for observing human gene mutations.

He waved behind him, and the group silently bypassed the ventilation shaft. They encountered several more pipe openings afterward, but they didn't meet any more aliens who spoke. Some were empty, while others were guarded at the entrance.

The map shows that the end of the pipe is close to the stairs, but it doesn't say that the end of the pipe is a prison.

It was a large cell with two doors, one of which was a birdcage-like, openwork iron door. To the left of the iron door was a large food bowl about a meter wide, and to the right was a large water bowl. The two bowls could fit tightly through the iron door.

Outside the openwork iron gate is a sturdy electronic door with a small window.

They are indeed raising humans.

Bai Chenzhu looked at it from all angles and it looked exactly like a square birdcage. This was the end of the pipe; they had to go down and find another way. He lifted the iron mesh, decisively jumped down, and landed with an unavoidable thud, but without waking anyone there.

The entire cell was filled with humans who had not undergone any mutations.

There were about ten men and women, all branded with numbers on their necks, and they appeared to have been screened; they were mostly young adults.

Strangely, they were all sleeping peacefully, some even with large bellies, their steady breathing trying to lull any stray human into a dream.

Jiang Ye frowned and covered his nose and mouth as soon as he came down. Tang Zhao, who came down last, had a distorted expression and quickly pinched his nose.

Bai Chenzhu didn't smell anything, but he trusted their senses and looked around, holding his breath.

Looking out the small window, it's still the laboratory.

It turned out that the place they were in was a warehouse-like structure inside the building.

There was a blurry figure outside the door, studying something.

Bai Chenzhu gestured to Jiang Ye and Tang Zhao, then stepped forward and knocked on the door.

The alien turned around warily, its eyes full of doubt, as if wondering how there could be a conscious human inside.

Bai Chenzhu quietly released a bit of spiritual energy and 'poked' it from a distance.

Mental power, male insect! Who is it that has arrived? The alien immediately widened its eyes and quickly walked over.

"Ugh!" As soon as the heavy electronic door opened, he was punched in the face. His body was thrown backward by inertia, and he was knocked down after his hands and feet were restrained.

Who is it?! It glared angrily into the room. Jiang Ye and Tang Zhao dragged it out of the 'warehouse' and pinned it to the lab table.

A strong smell of rust lingered on the lab table. Bai Chenzhu took out a dagger and held it to the alien's throat. The blade was sharp, and the alien could feel the wound on its neck and the blood flowing out, causing it to panic.

It struggled desperately, its mouth and nose tightly covered, the feeling of suffocation ever-present. It was horrified to discover that these two frail humans could actually subdue it!

Their powerful bodies have always been their invincible weapon; they can grab a human as easily as a human grabs a chick. But now, two ordinary humans are actually able to subdue it.

"Dare to make a sound, and I'll nail you right here." The translator dutifully converted Bai Chenzhu's words into the language of the foreign race.

The moment the hand was removed, the alien gasped for breath, breaking out in a cold sweat. Its black and yellow vertical pupils were fixed on the black-haired human before it, still straining to peer into the warehouse.

Bai Chenzhu knew exactly what it was looking for: the mental energy it had just unleashed had made the alien race suspect they had kidnapped a male insect. Bai Chenzhu remained unfazed. "The life of that male insect depends on you."

"How did you get out?" The alien asked incredulously, its long, thin tentacles trembling wildly. Its gaze swept over the necks of the three people. "Wait, you don't have any numbers on you!"

"Someone come here... uh!"

As Bai Chenzhu's bamboo knife pointed downwards, the alien was terrified. It instantly fell silent, unwilling to gamble on whether the human's hand was faster or its kin's rescue would arrive sooner.

Bai Chenzhu raised an eyebrow, surprised that there were cowards among the alien races. He went straight to the point, "Where is the fragment?"

The alien looked at him blankly, "What fragment?"

Jiang Ye added, "So, you should understand what the Space Alliance's space communication station on Earth is, right? Where is its core located?"

The alien was even more confused. Its first reaction was to ask, "Wasn't that thing long gone?"

Bai Chenzhu and Jiang Ye exchanged a glance, realizing that perhaps not every alien race was aware of this.

We no longer expect this alien race to know anything.

Bai Chenzhu looked around the huge laboratory, where jars of all sizes contained unfinished, deformed embryos. He had an incredulous guess in his mind, but still asked, "What are you researching here?"

The alien race remained silent.

Bai Chenzhu said coldly, "Answer my question."

He plunged a knife into the alien's wing, and at the same time, stuffed a piece of cloth from the side into the alien's mouth, once again silencing its screams.

A moment later, Bai Chenzhu pulled out a blood-stained dagger and brandished it threateningly in front of the alien race, "If you don't answer the question, I'll chop off your wings and dismember you."

The alien broke out in a cold sweat, flinched, and nodded.

Bai Chenzhu removed the cloth from its mouth.

"Study...you." The alien said cautiously.

Tang Zhao couldn't help but interject, "What are you studying about us? Why do I see people inside with big bellies!"

The alien paused, its breathing rapid and heaving, its eyes flashing. "You lowly humans, the Insect God allows you to contribute to the propagation of your species."
