Chapter 49 Good Stuff
Miss Li wasn't here today, so the building was unusually quiet, with only two people guarding the door.
"Is he really their biological son?" Bai Chenzhu and Jiang Ye walked openly to the vicinity of the small building, and the road was clear. They felt increasingly strange. "There are a lot of people guarding their own place, but they leave their sick son aside."
“Maybe some people just like to create a persona of a loving father and filial son?” Jiang Ye pulled him inside, but Bai Chenzhu pressed his hand down.
"Wait a minute," Bai Chenzhu said.
He carefully sensed the spiritual energy around him.
As long as one is alive, one possesses spiritual power. The only difference between the spiritual power of those with superpowers, humans, and mutants is their strength.
Bai Chenzhu opened his eyes, a glint of something in them. He looked at Jiang Ye and said, “It’s strange. There are fifteen ordinary people hiding around, but no superhumans.”
Jiang Ye tilted his head, muttering to himself thoughtfully, "Fifteen?"
"Perhaps it's to protect Bai Li, should we still go in?" Bai Chenzhu glanced inside the small building. One wrong move, and they could easily be mistaken for malicious individuals and attacked.
Although their true intentions in gathering information seemed rather ulterior.
Jiang Ye was confident of victory: "I can handle fifteen ordinary people."
Bai Chenzhu loved hearing him say that. "Then let's go!"
Jiang Ye skillfully led him around the two men and into the house through the second-floor window.
The room was a bit dark, and the second floor was mostly empty. There was no one on the second floor. A sofa set was placed in the center of the first floor, and the faint sound of chewing could be heard from the side.
Bai Chenzhu sensed it carefully. The fragmented spiritual energy did not appear in the house, but his own faint spiritual energy came out from the kitchen.
It must have been left on the person who attacked him that day.
The two exchanged a glance and followed the sound of chewing.
Bai Li sat at the dining table with his back to them, slowly chewing something.
When the two walked up to him and saw what Bai Li was eating, they almost vomited on the spot.
Bai Li was elegantly scooping out a brain with a spoon and eating it. The brain was very large and covered with blood vessels, unlike anything found in ordinary animals.
"Bai Li? What are you doing?" Bai Chenzhu walked forward, enduring the nauseating smell of blood, still somewhat incredulous.
Bai Li turned his head with a crunching sound, staring intently at them, still chewing. He didn't speak, continuing to eat his food.
"Hello?" Jiang Ye called out.
Bai Li did not respond.
“I doubt he has the ability to communicate with people,” Jiang Ye said. “He’s already half-zombified, so it’s normal that he can’t speak.”
Bai Li swallowed his food and uttered his first words since they met, "Idiot."
Jiang Ye:......
He rolled up his sleeves and was about to go forward and beat someone up when Bai Chenzhu stopped him.
Bai Chenzhu shifted his gaze from the brain on the table to Bai Li. "You can talk? Do you know what you're eating?"
"Human." Bai Li was quite willing to talk to the person in front of him. He sniffed, swallowed, and a greedy appetite flashed in his eyes. "You smell so good, even better than it."
Bai Chenzhu took a deep breath and didn't rush over. "Jiang Ye, go up and take a look."
Jiang Ye went up and roughly pulled down Bai Li's collar, revealing a bloody hole in the other's left shoulder.
"It really is you!" Bai Chenzhu's pupils shrank. He scrutinized Bai Li, from his spiritual power to the gunshot wound. "That thing is with you?!"
Bai Li thought about these words carefully, trying hard to understand their meaning. He was as slow as a rusty robot that hadn't been lubricated in a long time, and he took a long time to think, so long that Bai Chenzhu became a little impatient.
Bai Li suddenly realized, licked his lips, and said, "Oh! That thing, it is indeed a good thing."
"Do you know where it is?" Bai Chenzhu saw that his attitude was acceptable—except for wanting to eat him—so she tried to resolve the issue through conversation.
"Do you have something else on you, 'that thing'?" Bai Li spoke slowly, enunciating each word clearly. "Give it to me, or I won't eat you."
Bai Chenzhu felt a chill run down her spine from his gaze; it was an expression that shouldn't appear on a human face, looking at one's own kind as if they were food.
Bai Li finished the last bite of food.
Then, he flew into a rage, smashing the plate on the ground, shards of porcelain flying everywhere, yelling, "Useless!"
He shouted, "It's no use! It's no use!"
Bai Chenzhu took a step back, and Bai Li stared intently at him, but his view was blocked by Jiang Ye who stepped forward.
Bai Li spoke slowly and deliberately, "You won't give it to me?"
Jiang Ye pressed, "Where is that thing?"
Bai Li remained expressionless. Suddenly, he overturned the table and pulled a gun from under his wheelchair, seemingly having come prepared.
Bai Chenzhu's expression changed. Before he could speak, Jiang Ye rushed over and kicked over the wheelchair. Bai Li fell to the ground, along with his spear, and mechanically shouted, "Help! Help!"
The gate opened, but instead of the two guards at the entrance, a large group of fully equipped bodyguards rushed in, weapons pointed at them.
"Like catching a turtle in a jar." Bai Chenzhu's beautiful eyes scanned the surroundings as she whispered, "We've been set up."
“I can tell.” Jiang Ye glanced at the crowd that was pouring in.
Bai Chenzhu sighed helplessly, "Don't worry, this is all you have. Feel free to use your skills." He retreated step by step into the corner.
Only now did Bai Chenzhu understand everything. Ever since arriving in Luozhou and mentioning the connection between the Zombie King and the fragments, the shadowy figure, for some unknown reason, suspected that they were carrying fragments and came to their door twice to steal them.
Now we're just waiting for them to come so we can take them down in one fell swoop.
In other words, these fifteen people were not there to protect Bai Li, but rather to capture them from the very beginning.
Bai Chenzhu used his toe to pick up the silver dining knife that Bai Li had dropped on the ground, which was still stained with red and white dirt. Bai Chenzhu twisted Bai Li's hands and forcibly pulled him up behind his back, pressing against his neck and coldly saying, "Put down your weapons! Otherwise, I will kill your young master."
Those people were only a beat too slow, and then their attacks became even more intense. Jiang Ye sped up, his figure weaving through the bullets. In no time, the fifteen men didn't even have a chance to fire before they were all lying on the ground in neat rows.
Jiang Ye picked up the scattered guns from the ground and confiscated them with a good mood.
Bai Chenzhu also picked up a few guns and counted the people on the ground. "I remember fifteen plus two equals seventeen, right?"
What about those two people outside? They couldn't have run away, could they?
Just as they were about to take Bai Li away, the door was kicked open, and more bodyguards rushed in.
Walking behind was Bai Guangzheng, who looked serious and was dressed neatly as if he were going to a meeting, and Li Zhenzhen, who looked anxious. Like any doting mother, she called out, "Bai Li!" and was about to rush over, but Bai Guangzheng grabbed her arm and she couldn't break free no matter what she did.
Li Zhenzhen tried to shake off his hand, her face full of anger: "Bai Guangzheng! If anything happens to Bai Li, I'll never forgive you!"
Bai Guangzheng ignored her and said righteously, "Gentlemen, we treated you with courtesy, but we did not expect you to have such wolfish ambitions. You actually tried to harm my son in front of everyone. You are extremely vicious!"
Li Zhenzhen was extremely worried and was willing to pay any price: "Let him go! Let him go! You can have anything you want!"
Bai Chenzhu sized up the two men, slowly put down the knife in his hand, but still restrained Bai Li. "Mr. Bai may have some misunderstanding. Your son is infected with the virus. We only temporarily restrained him out of self-defense and good intentions."
"You're spouting nonsense!" Bai Guangzheng grabbed Li Zhenzhen with one hand and pointed at them with the other, cursing angrily, "My son has no mutation whatsoever! You're the ones who are nothing but a bunch of greedy thugs. Guards!"
Bai Chenzhu's eyes sharpened, and he exchanged a glance with Jiang Ye. How could they not understand that they had been tricked?
At this moment, Bai Li looks like nothing more than a weak young man. How can they prove that the other party is infected with the virus? And even if they do prove it, would Bai Guangzheng believe it?
Bai Guangzheng brought not only ordinary people, but also people with superpowers; a rough count revealed that there were about thirty of them.
They gathered around, and Bai Chenzhu pushed aside the white plum that was in his way, ready to fight.
"Dad! What are you doing!" Unexpectedly, Bai Tao rushed over and grabbed Bai Guangzheng's hand to plead for mercy. Bai Guangzheng was holding Li Zhenzhen with one hand and being dragged by Bai Tao with the other. Annoyed, he shook off Bai Tao.
Bai Tao cried out in surprise and 'weakly' fell to the ground.
She gasped, not expecting Bai Guangzheng to return halfway through to trick the two of them. She looked at Bai Chenzhu.
Bai Chenzhu frowned at her, then coughed twice. He had excellent eyesight and could see that Bai Tao clenched her fists, but he wasn't sure if she understood what he meant.
Just then, Bai Guang waved his hand, "Take them down!"
The crowd rushed over and picked up their tools.
Bai Tao grabbed his trouser leg, forcing out tears, and let out a sharp wail, "Daddy! Don't hurt them! Please!"
Her cries were shrill and mournful; in an instant, everyone felt as if their souls had been 'spinned' out, floating lightly out of their bodies and into the quiet, boundless blue sky.
After a long while, his soul was pulled back into his body, and the sounds of the world reappeared in his ears, accompanied by a sharp pain in his brain.
It felt like a dream; when they opened their eyes again, all they saw was the ceiling. Only then did they realize they were lying on the floor, curled up, groaning in pain.
When others cry, it's like pear blossoms in the rain; when Bai Tao cries, it's like a queen flower eating.
"Stop crying, stop crying, it hurts so much." Everyone prayed silently in their hearts.
The next moment, they saw Young Master Bai suddenly stand up.
They witnessed a human peeling away their outer 'skin,' gradually transforming into a hideous monster.
Stimulated by the mental energy, Bai Li's eyes bulged red, veins stood out, and he opened his bloody mouth and roared, his lips splitting open and the crack extending down to his cheek.
The next second, he pounced on an ordinary person and opened his mouth to bite, but was swept away by Bai Chenzhu's long leg and fell to the ground.
"Zombies! It's zombies!" Everyone present hurriedly raised their weapons and aimed them at Bai Li. But then they remembered that this was Bai Guangzheng's son, so they didn't dare to move, but remained on guard, secretly watching Bai Guangzheng's movements.
Bai Guangzheng's veins were bulging. Bai Li had undoubtedly slapped him in the face, and he was now in a very difficult position.
Li Zhenzhen's eyes were bloodshot, and she threatened through gritted teeth, "Guangzheng, save my son."
Bai Chenzhu pulled his leg back and patted his trouser leg. "Mr. Bai, come back to your senses. Does this count as evidence? Young Master Bai has indeed been infected."
Bai Li struggled to get up and tried to bite someone.
As Bai Guangzheng stood there stunned, all his strength vanished. Li Zhenzhen shook off Bai Guangzheng and rushed over to hug him, saying, "Don't be afraid, Mom is here, don't be afraid..."
Bai Li opened his mouth to bite off a piece of Li Zhenzhen's flesh, but was knocked unconscious by Bai Chenzhu with a karate chop.
Bai Tao was still sobbing, Bai Guangzheng's face was a mess, and Young Master Bai had fainted in Miss Li's arms.
Those who came along are now belatedly realizing their fear, and some are even starting to wonder if they've ever spent any time with Bai Li, or if they've ever been intimate with him...
Bai Chenzhu raised an eyebrow, still thinking about something else: the group Bai Guangzheng brought didn't entirely believe him. Otherwise, they could have easily staged a "calling a deer a horse" scenario right now.
——
The scene was chaotic and unsightly; if it got out, it would undoubtedly be a scandal.
Bai Guangzheng's face was ashen, his gloved hands trembling as he covered his face in despair, "I never... I never expected it to be like this..."
He smiled wryly, but his expression was righteous. "It's my fault for not disciplining my family properly. Today, such a big incident has occurred. Rest assured, even if it were my son, I would treat him the same as everyone else."
Bai Chenzhu looked at Bai Tao, whose face still bore traces of tears, and then at Bai Guangzheng, whose face was filled with sorrow and grief.
Bai Chenzhu: ...
Bai Guangzheng had already ordered his men to lock Bai Li up, and then apologized to Bai Chenzhu and Bai Li in a polite manner, offering them a lot of compensation. He then personally had someone escort them back to their residence.
As for Bai Tao, she had already wiped away her tears. After pretending not to know what had happened, she was overjoyed that she had awakened an amazing superpower and started clamoring to hold a party to celebrate.
Back at their lodgings, the two didn't see Zhou Zhuohua and Tang Zhao. They exchanged a glance, both harboring bad suspicions.
Just then, the sound of an engine came from outside the building.
Bai Chenzhu went to the window and saw Zhou Zhuohua getting out of the driver's seat. He looked up and saw it was him, and waved with a smile.
They brought the car back.
When the two came up, Zhou Zhuohua's smile disappeared, and she said with a serious face, "After we went out, we found that Bai Guangzheng's car had returned, so we guessed that something was wrong."
Tang Zhao looked them over, making sure they were alright, then exhaled a sigh of relief and relaxed. "That's why we rushed over to pick you up. We also ran into Bai Tao; Bai Guangzheng had sent her away, so I told her to hurry over. I'm so glad you're all safe! What happened?"
