Chapter 47 Hair Replacement
Bai Chenzhu paused in his head-rubbing motion. He suddenly didn't dare look at Jiang Ye, his gaze darting around for a moment before he mumbled, "No."
"If not, then why don't you dare look at me?" Jiang Ye felt uncomfortable seeing the man's vague answer.
He pinched Bai Chenzhu's cheek, forcing him to turn his head, "Look at me, and say it again."
"Don't be crazy." Bai Chenzhu was getting impatient. He slapped Jiang Ye's hand away. "I said I didn't. Why would I lie to you?"
"Really not?" Jiang Ye was inexplicably happy. "Then you're the same as me, we're the same."
"Who's like you?" Bai Chenzhu couldn't stand his excitement. She climbed off him, got off the bed, tidied herself up, and said coldly, "I won't have a girlfriend."
Jiang Ye looked at his back, his broad shoulders covered in white robes, like a snow-covered building. Jiang Ye stood up, her hand playfully pinching the end of his hair, and picked up a ribbon. "I won't have any either. Shall I tie your hair?"
"Hmm." Bai Chenzhu paused in changing his clothes, then continued as if nothing had happened.
Jiang Ye's words reminded him of something, and he knew that Jiang Ye's meaning was different from his own.
Whether in the book or in real life, Jiang Ye's orientation is consistent. He has seen Jiang Ye attracted to beautiful women, but he doesn't pay much attention to men. He guesses that in his mind, men are only classified into two categories: 'can be beaten' and 'cannot be beaten'.
But he's different.
He will not have a girlfriend or a wife.
Whether in the past or the future.
Speaking of this, one has to admire how some straight men really have no sense of distance. Bai Chenzhu twitched her lips and turned her head slightly to look at Jiang Ye, who was enthusiastically studying how to tie a bow.
He always has strange ideas that cause him to misunderstand the relationship between the two of them.
——
Having learned from yesterday's experience of being attacked because they were alone, Bai Chenzhu went out to sea with Jiang Ye and Tang Zhao today, while Bai Tao took Zhou Zhuohua to the hospital.
Today was lucky; we encountered a large ship, which was much more comfortable than yesterday. Given the current situation, even large ships have limited operational ranges and won't stray too far from shore, so the commission is still for a same-day return voyage.
Tang Zhao was incredibly excited, running around with everyone. He was the most enthusiastic when casting and hauling in the nets, and Bai Chenzhu always felt that Tang Zhao's skin tone had darkened a few shades.
"How come that kid isn't afraid of getting sunburned?" Bai Chenzhu, hiding in the shade, lifted his shirt and fanned himself, creating a slight breeze.
The sun over the sea was incredibly hot; its rays felt scorching on the skin, making one wonder if they would be roasted alive after a while.
Jiang Ye squeezed next to him, lazily eating fruit and said, "You forgot, our bodies are already much stronger than ordinary people."
They are not fishermen; their mission on board is to deal with mutants that fishermen cannot handle, such as large mutant fish that are accidentally caught or aggressive mutant seabirds.
When there was nothing to do, Jiang Ye would openly pull Bai Chenzhu to rest, leaving Tang Zhao, that silly boy, to run around.
The fishermen also took turns resting. One of them, a dark-skinned man, sat on the riverbank and took out his water bottle to drink water.
By the time Bai Chenzhu noticed, Jiang Ye had already started chatting with him.
Jiang Ye asked curiously, "You mean, before Bai Guangzheng, the person in charge of Luozhou was a Mr. Li?"
"Absolutely!" the fisherman said proudly. "Mr. Li helped us a lot. Everyone was in a panic at the time, but Mr. Li took over the Holiday Inn as a shelter, built a temporary hospital, and encouraged those with superpowers to go out to sea with us..."
He recounted all the good deeds Mr. Li had done, and finally sighed, "It's a pity that good people don't live long. He was attacked by zombies, and he was gone just like that."
Jiang Ye clearly didn't know Mr. Li, but now he looked sad and even put his arm around the fisherman's shoulder to comfort him.
"Pretending! Pretending!" Bai Chenzhu was both amused and exasperated. He turned to grab the kettle.
A flash of white light crossed his mind. He straightened up and looked at the fisherman. "What is the relationship between the Mr. Li you just mentioned and the Miss Li who is currently next to Bai Guang?"
The fisherman thought for a moment and shook his head.
Another fisherman next to him had just lifted the curtain and entered. Upon hearing this, he beamed and gossiped, "I know that. Bai Guangzheng was originally the son-in-law of the Li family. If he hadn't married Li Zhenzhen and had such powerful supernatural abilities, it wouldn't have been so easy for him to hold onto Luozhou."
Bai Chenzhu was extremely surprised. He looked at Jiang Ye, but Jiang Ye didn't react.
Bai Chenzhu asked in a low voice, "You already knew?"
Jiang Ye paused in his stretching and shook his head. "I don't know. I'm not that amazing. But didn't you notice some photos hanging in the manor? The woman in them is Miss Li, right? The manor must belong to her family. Hearing all this makes it all seem so reasonable."
Bai Chenzhu genuinely hadn't noticed. "Where to hang it?"
"Main residence".
"Ouch! Ouch! Don't pinch me! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Jiang Ye begged for mercy, but there was clearly a smile on his lips.
Bai Chenzhu released his grip on his neck and shook him. "You little brat, you sneaked out again without me."
Moreover, Bai Chenzhu had no idea when he had slipped out.
"This is safer." Jiang Ye wiped his nose and smiled guiltily.
The two men chatted with the fishermen about Mr. Li, but unfortunately they didn't know much, and the conversation revolved around his past before the apocalypse.
Suddenly, the fishing boat shook, and Tang Zhao shouted from outside, "Boss Jiang, come quick! Lots of mutated birds!"
They grabbed their tools and rushed out, only to see a flock of mutated birds flying in from the sky.
——
There was a little mishap on the way back in the evening; it was already quite dark when we disembarked.
Tang Zhao carried his precious big fish ahead, eager to get back and cook. In just one day, his arms and face had darkened to a shade darker than usual, and his body was covered in fine wounds.
Bai Ruofeng shook his head as he watched his retreating figure, then looked down at the mutated octopus he was holding. His fingers also had peck marks on them. The octopus would always secretly lick a few drops of blood from humans, and now it was cleverly lying flat and pretending to be dead, letting itself be poked.
Eight tentacles would have been enough, but now there are even more. Apart from that, there's nothing unusual. I wonder what it tastes like.
As Bai Chenzhu walked, he felt that something was missing behind him. When he looked back, he found that the area behind him was empty and Jiang Ye was nowhere to be seen.
Bai Chenzhu frowned, his spiritual power passing through the crowd and landing precisely in front of a simple stall not far away.
A familiar figure was carrying his catch of seafood, haggling with the vendor, exchanging two crabs for... an ordinary hair tie?
A deal that resulted in huge losses.
Seemingly sensing that he was 'watching', Jiang Ye stuffed the hair tie into his pocket, turned around and smiled in his direction, then strode over.
Within two or three minutes, Jiang Ye appeared in front of him, speaking first, "What are you doing? Afraid I'll run away?"
Suspicious, very suspicious. Bai Chenzhu's gaze fell on his pocket, then shifted to Jiang Ye's handsome face. "You have a girlfriend?"
Jiang Ye was even more surprised than him, "What? How come I didn't know I had talked about it?"
Bai Chenzhu's gaze fell back on his pants pocket.
Jiang Ye laughed heartily, "It's a gift for you." He carried the things in one hand, wiped the other hand clean, and took out the simple hair tie from his pocket. "Your hair has grown long, and I've noticed you always use the tie to tie it, which is inconvenient."
"Give it back." Bai Chenzhu shook his head. "I'll find a knife and cut it later."
Simple, direct, and effective.
Getting a haircut turned out like slicing a melon. Jiang Ye stared wide-eyed, as if he'd seen a ghost.
He didn't speak, so Bai Chenzhu took it as an admission that he had agreed to return it, took a step back, and turned to walk towards the manor.
"Don't cut it!" Jiang Ye chased after him and blocked his way.
As Bai Chenzhu walked forward, he retreated accordingly, starting to make excuses for himself, "I think it's getting late autumn, and humans need more fur to keep warm, don't you think?"
He racked his brains for a reason, "Besides, where can you find a hairstylist these days? If you cut it yourself, it'll look terrible! Don't come crying to me later."
"Ah Zhu, say something!"
The wind was strong and salty at the beach. Bai Chenzhu brushed aside the strands of hair that were obscuring her eyes and realized that her hair was indeed quite long. "Speak."
Jiang Ye was stunned, and after a long while, he came to his senses. "A-Zhu! Did you even hear what I just said?! Don't cut it!"
Amidst the bustling crowd, Jiang Ye's chattering around a young man drew attention. Bai Chenzhu stopped, extended his hand to him, his clean palm facing upwards, and said, "Give it to me."
Jiang Ye stopped, frowning as he hesitated, considering the possibility that Bai Chenzhu might throw the hair tie. Ultimately, he placed the hair tie, worth two crabs, into Bai Chenzhu's hand.
Bai Chenzhu naturally pulled down the ribbon in his hair and replaced it with a hair tie. He said with a helpless tone, "If you like it, then I'll keep it."
Seeing Jiang Ye excitedly about to pounce like a big dog, Bai Chenzhu dodged to the side, then put his arm around Jiang Ye's shoulder, and the two continued walking forward like buddies, weighing the mutated octopus in his hand, "Alright, Sister Zhuohua is still waiting for us."
Bai Tao appeared at dinner that day. Bai Chenzhu thus confirmed the existence of 'Mr. Li' with her.
"The old man never mentioned it, but everyone who comes and goes mentions it, and the old man will look sad." Bai Tao was gnawing on one of the octopus tentacles that Bai Chenzhu had brought back. She chewed for a long time but couldn't chew it. She was having a battle of wits with it.
"There are indeed three people in the photo: a couple and Li Zhenzhen. As for Li Zhenzhen? She's quiet and reserved, spending her days tending to her precious little house. I'll try to find out more about her tomorrow."
"Hey hey hey! My crabs! I only ate one, how come you guys ate them so fast!"
Bai Chenzhu stared at the crab meat that had inexplicably appeared in the bowl, picked it up and took a bite, then reassured Bai Tao, "It's okay, there will be more tomorrow."
