Too late to regret
These words gave Lin Yueyao great hope.
Her master's spiritual root was stolen by Rong Yan, and she has to find a way to get it back, no matter what method she has to use.
After that day's fierce fighting, Rong Yan disappeared without a trace.
Security has been heightened within the Immortal Gate territory. According to border guards, Rong Yan was spotted at the border.
She had doubted Rong Yan's identity, but lacking evidence, she dismissed it as nonsense.
Thinking about it now, her suspicions weren't without reason.
Rong Yan took his mother's surname and inherited half of Yun Zheng's bloodline. During his initial training, the Blackwater City Lord offered him guidance, but Shangguan Zhi relentlessly pursued him.
The truth is predetermined.
Rong Nianci, daughter of the master of Futu Mountain, still stirs up a storm when her name is mentioned.
No wonder I've encountered so many things along the way.
She didn't know who to blame for all of this. If she could go back to the past, she hoped that her master hadn't taken Rong Yan in, so that she wouldn't have met such a tragic end.
“Master, I never thought you would die.” She stood in front of the crystal coffin, her grief beyond words, “and I never knew things would turn out this way.”
"What I think about day and night is nothing more than Master's decision to take Yan as his disciple."
With her eyes lowered, she gave a bleak smile, "If it weren't for what happened back then, Master, you wouldn't have died."
Her hand clenched into a fist, and she slammed it against the coffin, powerless. "Master was good in every way, except that he was too kind and never thought of himself."
"You told me to take care of Rong Yan and learn to take care of myself, and I listened. You told me to take Rong Yan down the mountain to find a way to resolve the issue of the Void Spirit Root, and I listened to that too."
Lin Yueyao spoke with such precision that she choked up, unable to breathe properly for a long time. She had no choice but to lie on the coffin, her voice tinged with resentment.
"You always think of others, but others are plotting to kill you. What's the point of leaving me here alone if you leave so easily?"
She composed herself, her eyes stinging and swollen. "I don't know how to face Rong Yan, whether I should resent him or hate him."
"He knew that my master was the most important person to me, yet he still killed him without any regard for human ethics."
“I…” Lin Yueyao was not an indecisive person, but Rong Yan was no longer just a simple brother to her.
"But don't worry, Master, I will get my spiritual root back, even if it costs me my life."
As for Rong Yan, she would leave that aside for now. She was more interested in knowing exactly what had happened at Mount Futu that day.
Knowing she was leaving, no one could stop her. Under the cover of night, she didn't want to disturb anyone.
One person waited for a long time, anticipating that she would leave tonight.
Apart from the disciples guarding the mountain, the area outside the mountain gate was desolate and quiet.
"Please wait, True Lord Qinglian," Yin Lanxin said, having waited here specifically to meet her.
"Sect Leader Yin." She wasn't familiar with Yin Lanxin, but after going through so much together, she knew that the other party was no pushover.
Shangguan Zhi, a mere fox demon, dared not cause trouble without the backing of the Hehuan Sect.
“I know that True Lord Qinglian must go, but as the head of a sect, I might as well use my status to persuade him.” Yin Lanxin said firmly, “Rong Yan is not a bad person. He cares about you. He must have had a reason for doing these things.”
"How the True Lord deals with it is his business. But I believe Rong Yan did not kill his master or his fellow disciples."
For so many days, Yin Lanxin was the only person besides Song Qingyun who persuaded her to believe in Rong Yan.
She hasn't been blinded by hatred; she still has the ability to distinguish right from wrong.
In this world, many things are black and white, and the truth can be reversed in just a few words.
Only by witnessing things firsthand can one know the truth, and no matter how difficult it is to find the truth, she is willing to do so.
"Sect Leader Yin, what exactly was your intention in having Shangguan Zhi deliberately get close to Rong Yan?" Now that things have come to her senses, how did Yin Lanxin know that Rong Yan had feelings for her?
How could she, an outsider, know what happened between the two of them?
“Rong Yan is Nian Ci’s child, and Nian Ci’s child is my child. I can’t help but care about what kind of people Rong Yan likes and what sect he joins,” Yin Lanxin said with clear eyes.
This has nothing to do with her; Lin Yueyao will draw her own conclusions.
"Since he likes you, I must protect you." Yin Lanxin looked at her, her heart open and honest.
Lin Yueyao remained silent, her heart unmoved.
"Even if he has made a big mistake, could you give him a chance because you are his senior sister?" Yin Lanxin asked tentatively.
This reminded her of what Wu Jinfeng had said before.
She never answered the question; she left resolutely. Yin Lanxin watched her retreating figure and sighed helplessly.
After Lin Yueyao left, Qi Chengyan appeared not far away.
"I told you it was useless, but you wouldn't believe me," Qi Chengyan teased her.
Yin Lanxin rolled her eyes at him, utterly disgusted, "It's all because of you."
He admitted to secretly fueling the flames, but claimed his intentions were good. Qi Chengyan explained with a grin, "I wasn't doing this for that silly boy's own good."
"Do you know the saying 'good intentions lead to bad results'?" Yin Lanxin turned her back to him, unwilling to look at him any longer.
Now everything is in chaos, and I'm completely at a loss.
Qi Chengyan was both amused and exasperated. "How could I have known that something like this would happen? If I had known, I would never have gotten involved."
"You're always so quick to judge after the event. If you had even a little bit of self-awareness like Xuan Tian, you wouldn't have caused all this trouble." She rubbed her fingers together, speaking with a sarcastic tone.
"Stop talking." Qi Chengyan couldn't stand these words.
"Where is Xuan Tian?" Knowing he didn't want to hear it, she snorted and changed the subject.
"They're locked up in the hall, still trying to find a way to revive that girl's master."
Both of them sighed, feeling powerless. Yin Lanxin's eyes were filled with worry about the unknown. "Do you think she'll get what she wants if she goes?"
"Things are unpredictable." Qi Chengyan said sternly, "Now that Rong Yan's identity has been exposed, has there been any news from Mount Futu?"
She shook her head. "Rong Yan is Yun Zheng's son and the old peak master's grandson. If the two families were to fight..."
It's like the flood washed away the Dragon King's temple; family members don't even recognize each other.
It was laughable to think about, but Yin Lanxin's expression was even uglier than a laugh. As far as she knew, Futu Mountain knew Rong Yan's identity and had sent people to negotiate with the demon race several times, demanding that they release him.
However, the Immortal Sect suffered heavy losses due to the sudden attack by the demon soldiers. The major sects united to attack the demon race, vowing to tear Rong Yan to pieces.
The Misty Sect was suppressed by Xuan Tian, but the grudges had been brewing for a long time, and eventually the day would come when the seas boiled and the mountains collapsed.
As the sect leader of the Hehuan Sect, she couldn't be unable to distinguish right from wrong. During this Hundred Schools Trial, many of her disciples perished.
She couldn't stand idly by, but she knew that all this trouble wasn't solely Rong Yan's fault.
"With our current status, we can certainly make a living. But things are different now. Our situation and the burdens we bear are no less than Xuan Tian's."
He finally uttered a sensible sentence, and the atmosphere became heavy as the night grew quiet.
"Don't meddle too much, everyone has their own destiny."
Yin Lanxin frowned; she couldn't just watch Nianci's child die.
Despite saying that, he remained silent.
The Wan Yao Zhai is located in a desert, where sandstorms rage and ferocious monsters roam.
Lin Yueyao flew all the way to the border, where there were many demon soldiers guarding the area. She ventured in alone and killed any demon she saw.
The news of their rampage across half the border quickly reached the Six Void Palace.
The demons did not know who Lin Yueyao was, and all those they sent were killed by their swords.
He only said he wanted to see Rong Yan.
Rong Yan learned that he had tried to go out several times, but even though Yun Xiu agreed, the Holy Venerable refused.
This is his grandson whom he has searched for at all costs, bearing the mission of the entire demon race. He cannot let a woman ruin his important mission.
But Rong Yan didn't care about all that; what did the rise and fall of the demon race have to do with him?
He only wants his senior sister.
"Aunt, please let me out. She's my senior sister, I can't refuse to see her," Rong Yan pleaded.
After all this time, only today did she see any signs of life on his face, and she knew that he couldn't let go of the past.
Yunxiu has always been soft-hearted and is the Holy Venerable's most beloved daughter.
With these factors in mind, she didn't want to see him depressed. Fine, let him go.
"Go ahead, come back soon, and whatever you do, don't let your grandfather know."
"Thank you, Auntie."
Rong Yan dashed out of the palace with near-lightning speed. Yun Xiu, worried about him going alone, sent a small team to escort him.
With the warrant in hand, the border was opened to all passage, making things much easier.
After several days of continuous killing, Lin Yueyao was exhausted. She sat on a rock, the wind and sand ruffling her clothes.
Her eyes and brows were full of fatigue, but even so, she still refused to leave.
As he regained his composure, Wenqing flew out from the top of his head and floated in his palm, the crystal embedded in the hilt of the sword shimmering.
It is a sign of the approaching evil spirits, and also a resonance of weeping and sorrow.
A group of people flew in from afar, the young man at the head of the group wearing a black crane cloak, a symbol of power and nobility among the demon race, instead of the distinctive disciple attire of the Misty Sect.
Seeing this from afar, Rong Yan excitedly called out, "Senior Sister—"
As he approached, a beam of light shot out, blocking his path. The joy on his face instantly turned into disbelief. "Senior Sister?"
"You fiend, what right do you have to call me senior sister?" Lin Yueyao stood facing him with her sword drawn, not allowing him to come any closer.
"Senior sister, it's me, Rong Yan." Despair filled Rong Yan's eyes, yet he still clung to hope as he moved forward. "Don't you recognize me anymore?"
"How dare you!" she roared. "If you dare come any closer, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Suppressing his grievances, Rong Yan ordered his guards to retreat a hundred miles away, while he held his ground. "Senior Sister, I am Rong Yan, how can you not recognize me?"
Lin Yueyao remained silent, only asking, "Did you kill Master?"
Rong Yan's face turned pale instantly. His lips moved and his throat throbbed, but he couldn't utter a sound.
It really was him! Lin Yueyao was now absolutely certain, her eyes filled with sorrow and bloodlust, wishing she could deal with him herself!
"How could you be so heartless..."
Her hands trembled, and the light emanating from her eyes flickered. After a long while, she broke down in tears, saying, "You killed my master; you clearly wanted to take my life."
"No, it's not what you think! I didn't want to kill Master! Someone framed me, and Master died protecting me!" Rong Yan explained helplessly, his limbs swaying, his eyes bloodshot with anxiety, his eyes wide with anger, as if he wanted to tear his heart out to prove his innocence.
"Whether you believe it or not, I never intended to kill him! He appeared behind me, and I thought... I thought..." The last half of the sentence was incredibly heavy, causing Rong Yan's internal organs to ache terribly, and he broke out in a cold sweat, his lips turning pale.
"What did you think?" she retorted with a sneer, her laughter more terrifying than her tears. "Did you think your demon identity was exposed, so you killed him to prevent future trouble?"
"Senior sister, you know." Rong Yan thought he had gotten away with it and was hoping to stay by her side forever.
"You not only killed my master, but you also deceived me." Lin Yueyao sneered, pointing her sword at his heart. "I deeply regret saving you in Lanxi Town."
