Chapter 52

Chapter 52

The report failed.

Su Yazhi suffered from insomnia all night.

Shen Qianmei sat quietly, without saying a word.

The living room was quiet, but my restless heart pounded even harder.

After a long while, Shen Qianmei raised her head, her brows furrowed with worry: "There's only one way left."

“No, no way.” Su Yazhi reflexively refused, her emotions becoming heightened as a result.

She couldn't afford to gamble and shook her head, pleading with Shen Qianmei not to be too impulsive.

Su Yazhi was greedy for this hard-won happiness and stability, even though she had only been happy for a few days.

Shen Qianmei was observing carefully, trying to understand the reasons behind Su Yazhi's every emotion.

But the secret was too deep to be seen, like a wall that blocked their communication.

A sense of despondency weighed down Su Yazhi's shoulders. Outside the window, dark clouds filled the sky, and a light rain continued to fall, much like her bad mood.

Mom brought up a bowl of bird's nest porridge and said affectionately, "Ya Ya, come and eat something first."

Su Ya nodded blankly, sat down and forced herself to eat a few bites, but the food tasted bland, like chewing wax.

I wonder how Shen Yiheng is doing in the detention cell now, whether he's eating and sleeping well. Maybe he's just sullen and overthinking.

With her mother by her side the whole time, Su Yazhi didn't want her to worry. "It's okay, Mom. I'm just a little irritable right now, but I'll be fine in a little while."

Su Sinan smiled and said, "It's alright, just consider it as keeping Mom company for a while."

As the sun began to set, the mother and daughter sat close together, and the mother's favorite thing to do was to squeeze her daughter's palms until they were warm from being cold.

After the rain stopped, the two took a walk in the garden, where a cold wind blew and there was a slight chill in the air.

"All the flowers that Aheng planted have bloomed," her mother exclaimed.

Su Yazhi's gaze followed, and after the light rain, the flowers bloomed vigorously, with all kinds of flowers vying for beauty, set against the backdrop of the setting sun, creating a breathtaking scene.

You reap what you sow, but the one who sowed the flowers is no longer here, and a trace of sadness inevitably spreads deep in my eyes.

The mother placed the most beautiful flower in Su Yazhi's hand and sighed softly, "Flowers bloom naturally, what is there to fear from cold rain or bright sunshine?"

Su Yazhi listened quietly, the delicate fragrance of the flowers in her hands soothing her soul. Indeed, after weathering the storm, the flowers bloomed even more vibrantly, the rainwater becoming fertilizer for their growth.

In just a short while, Mom had gathered a whole bouquet of flowers. The small flower basket, adorned with the flowers, became a beautiful decoration on the swing, making everyone feel much better.

My mother said, "Flowers don't necessarily have to be in flowerpots. They can go to a wider world, perhaps drifting with the current, or perhaps becoming a specimen to be preserved forever. Why stick to the rules and be stuck in your ways? Be bold and go out and explore."

As the evening breeze blew by, many petals were blown away, and colorful flowers drifted onto the stream, creating a dazzling sea of flowers that looked like a kaleidoscope of colors from afar, forming a beautiful and unforgettable scene.

Su Yazhi stared intently, then suddenly fell into deep thought.

Perhaps, the blooming of flowers is only for a moment, but what they want to do is to make beauty eternal.

The next day, Su Yazhi got up early and brought a bouquet of flowers to visit Shen Yiheng in the detention room.

He looked haggard; after just one day, he had developed a stubble beard and a wilder demeanor.

Su Yazhi felt a little guilty and didn't dare to look him in the eye.

"Su Yazhi," Shen Yiheng suddenly called out in a very serious tone.

Su Yazhi looked up in surprise, thinking Shen Yiheng was angry from his tone.

"Raise your head."

I want to see you.

She still looked a little aggrieved, her red lips as tender as fresh flowers, and she obediently looked up in a rare, sweet voice.

Shen Yiheng's gaze darkened, a hint of tenderness appearing on his strong, sword-like eyebrows. He smiled mischievously and teased, "Why are your dark circles so heavy? You should have had more time to sleep while I was away."

A blush crept onto Su Yazhi's cheeks, and she turned bright red almost instantly, gritting her teeth and muttering, "You bastard." She felt embarrassed, especially since police officers kept passing by.

Shen Yiheng was smug, a stark contrast to his still-dignified appearance in a suit and tie.

"Go to sleep, silly." He felt a pang of heartache, but also a sense of relief, knowing that he was always being thought of.

"The flowers you planted have bloomed." Through the door, Su Ya held the flowers high.

"If you look at the flowers more often, your days here won't be so boring and unbearable."

Shen Yiheng accepted them all, carefully protecting each petal. He was constantly hindered here, and he longed to get out soon: "Just wait a little longer, two more days, and I'll be out soon."

Su Ya sighed and nodded; now all she could do was wait.

"By the way, has Cheng Yan caused you any more trouble?" He was still worried about this matter.

Su Yazhi didn't want him to worry: "No, I won't see him."

Shen Yiheng couldn't help but worry, but seeing that Su Yazhi didn't want to talk about it anymore, he didn't press her further and gently comforted her, "It's okay, we'll find a way to solve it."

"Yes!" Su Yazhi nodded heavily; she trusted Shen Yiheng.

There are time limits for detention visits, and once the time was up, Su Yazhi had to leave.

As I walked to the police station, I happened to run into Mr. Shen, who had come to visit.

"Girl, would it be convenient for us to move over and have a chat?" Old Master Shen extended an invitation.

Su Yazhi agreed, and they went to a small park nearby.

Although Grandpa Shen is old, his steps are still strong and he is full of energy. He is walking ahead without saying a word, his mind is on other things.

Su Ya said, "If you have something to say, please speak frankly."

She could tell that Old Master Shen was holding it in and looked embarrassed.

“Girl,” Old Master Shen said with a weary voice.

“Aheng is a stubborn child. He is very persistent. Once he sets his mind on something or someone, he will stick to it forever.”

"Since he likes you, then let him be. I respect his decision." A sense of helplessness crept onto the old man's brow as he gazed into the distance, sighing.

Turning back, she met Su Yazhi's gaze, but a sorrowful feeling welled up in her heart, and she hesitated to speak.

"I heard you're going to marry Cheng Yan, is that true?"

Not long after Shen Yiheng went in, the news that she and Cheng Yan were getting married spread throughout Haicheng.

Su Yazhi avoided eye contact, her heart filled with unease.

Because of this incident, she locked herself in her room for a whole day. Even though she managed to avoid watching the news, she still couldn't control her bad mood from spreading.

Now that Old Master Shen has asked her so directly, even though she hasn't done anything yet, Su Yazhi still feels incredibly guilty.

The silence made the scene somewhat awkward. Not receiving a response, Old Master Shen stopped asking. Before leaving, he took one last careful look at Su Yazhi, his steps heavier than when he came.

Su Yazhi looked up at the blue sky reflected in the bowl. The bright light blurred her vision and made her feel lost.

She had considered the worst-case scenario, which was to die together with Cheng Yan. But Cheng Yan was a madman, and if he died, he would probably take everyone down with him.

But the horrific death of her mother in her previous life was still vivid in her mind, so painful it was heartbreaking. Su Yazhi could not let such a thing happen again.

A few meters away in the pavilion, Cheng Yan was waiting, his ruthlessness making him repulsive.

"Go try on the wedding dress. If it doesn't fit, there's still time to make alterations." Almost every time he appeared, it was accompanied by commanding instructions.

Su Yazhi remained unmoved, which only fueled his enthusiasm.

"I just visited President Shen; he's in a pretty bad state. Perhaps, he could be even worse off."

"Oh, right, I also had someone send over Mom's dress. She should be trying it on right now."

Su Ya's pupils darkened slightly, her eyes burning with anger, a murderous intent stirring within her.

He remained as unruly and impolite as ever.

Inside the bridal shop, the staff were already waiting. As they entered, they all bowed and greeted them, saying, "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Cheng."

A feeling of suffocation washed over her, and Su Yazhi frowned in annoyance.

The staff brought out the wedding dresses that had been prepared in advance for display: "Mrs. Cheng, please take a look first. If you like them, you can try them on here."

More than a dozen gorgeous and exquisite wedding dresses were displayed in front of her, but Su Yazhi had no interest in admiring them. She glanced at them dismissively, her face dark and displeased: "Trash."

"Change it." Cheng Yan said simply, without showing any ill will because of her contempt.

In just one afternoon, almost all the wedding dresses in Haicheng were brought here. Su Yazhi became more and more annoyed as she looked at them, and the people around her were even more annoyed.

The atmosphere at dinner was so tense it reached freezing point. As the emcee explained the arrangements for the wedding day, he realized something was wrong. The more he spoke, the more nervous and awkward he became, to the point that he even misread the script.

"Trash," Su Yazhi said dismissively again.

"Something that can't be brought to the table." This sentence is an insult directed at Cheng Yan.

Cheng Yan's expression was indifferent; even without uttering a word, he was enough to terrify the emcee. He gave Cheng Yan a cold glance and then scurried away.

“It’s alright,” Cheng Yan said nonchalantly, “You just need to play the role of the bride well, the rest is not important.”

Su Yazhi scoffed, flicked her skirt, and strode away arrogantly.

Shen Qianmei waited downstairs, deep in thought, before asking uncertainly, "Do you really want to marry him?"

Cai Siyue was also there. Although she seemed like an innocent little girl, her sympathy at this moment didn't seem feigned. Su Yazhi and she exchanged a calm glance, their faces seemingly expressionless, but their hearts were churning with turmoil.

Once upon a time, she, like Cai Siyue, greedily relied on her mother's side, willing to do anything for this moment of happiness.

"The matching outfits for the kids look great," Su Yazhi sincerely complimented.

Cai Siyue's eyebrows and eyes are very similar to Shen Qianmei's, except that one is a little more immature; now that the two are standing together, they don't look like mother and daughter, but rather like older and younger sisters.

The two were holding hands, a happy and heartwarming scene that made others envious.

Cai Siyue's delicate face was rosy, and she smiled sweetly: "I hope you can be happy."

Su Yazhi nodded casually, her mind a jumble of thoughts.

She had imagined many things about happiness, but her hopes were often unsatisfactory and could not overcome the fragmented and broken reality.

That night, she suffered from insomnia again.

Even when I look down, I can still smell the faint woody scent left by Shen Yiheng on my pillow. I reminisce and hug the pillow in my heart, and sadness quietly spreads.

It seems I'm going to have to let Shen Yiheng down again.

As he left the detention cell, Shen Yiheng held her hand tightly and said, "Wait for me." His resolute eyes were filled with reluctance.

As midnight approached, my heart began to clench and ache without me even realizing it.

Waiting is destined to be an unbearable ordeal, every minute and every second.
