7. The Chosen One

7. The Chosen One

Soon after Xu Wenqiang returned to her seat, a girl sat down next to her. She had a high ponytail, fair skin, a pair of thin, long, single-lidded eyes, and a few playful freckles dotted the tip of her nose.

Xu Wenqiang thought her appearance was very much to her liking and wanted to strike up a conversation, but the girl sat down, pulled a book from her bag, and slumped over the table, looking as if she didn't want anyone to come near her. Xu Wenqiang didn't bother approaching her and continued to play by herself. She wasn't idle either, though. She had been trying to figure out how to delay Chen Yang's explosion, but she hadn't come up with anything yet.

After all the freshmen arrived, Fu Dongqing left the classroom, and the prodigal son returned to his seat, and the classroom gradually became lively.

The students in this class all came from different junior high schools, so few knew each other. Everyone was tentatively chatting with those around them, and the safest first topic was usually, "Which school did you go to?" If they found someone who went to the same junior high school as them, they'd feel like they'd found an ally in this unfamiliar group, and they'd start discussing all the topics from their old school.

"Do you know who's in which class?"

"Do you know that teacher XXX?"

"Do you know what our principal is like?"

......

Xu Wenqiang looked around. She only knew Su Xiaoshan in the classroom, and he didn't seem to care to talk to her. The girl next to her was reading, having said nothing since she sat down. Xu Wenqiang rested her chin on her hand, listening to the rustling of pages next to her as she dozed off...

At this moment, a voice suddenly rose from the classroom door: "Gao Zhe, are you there?"

Xu Wenqiang's elbow went limp, and her chin nearly hit the table. She wiped the saliva from the corner of her mouth and looked towards the door.

The person who called out was a girl with a naturally cute round face. There was another girl standing next to her with a standard pretty face.

"Chen Mengyao, what's the matter?" A boy stood up in the classroom.

"Gao Zhe, come out for a moment, I have something to talk to you about." The round-faced girl shouted.

The boy walked to the door and said a few words to the girl. After a while, he turned around and shouted towards the classroom: "Xiao Cheng, come out."

Then, Xu Wenqiang saw the prodigal son walk out of the classroom. This prodigal son's name was Xiao Cheng.

Xu Wenqiang wasn't sleepy at all now, and she looked at the people standing at the classroom door with full energy. Not only her, but most of the people in the classroom had stopped chatting and were all looking towards the door, intentionally or unintentionally.

No wonder everyone loves to watch this excitement. The four people standing outside the door, two men and two women, the men are handsome and the women are beautiful, they are really too conspicuous.

"They're acting again." The girl who had been reading a book spoke the first sentence.

"It's much better than acting." Xu Wenqiang said casually, then she reacted and looked at the girl next to her and said, "Do you know them?"

"Of course I know them. They and I are both from Lixin Middle School. They perform this kind of show every now and then, for fear that others won't pay them any attention." said an acquaintance.

So you’re from Lixin Middle School, no wonder.

Qingshi No. 1 High School is the best high school in Qingshi, and Lixin Middle School is the best junior high school in Qingshi. Unlike other junior high schools, where students can be admitted directly from elementary school, Lixin Middle School requires a screening exam. I've heard that the exam consists of a written test and an interview, and only those who pass both tests can be admitted. Furthermore, Lixin Middle School's tuition is prohibitive, making it unaffordable for ordinary families. Therefore, students graduating from this elite school naturally feel a bit prouder than others.

Xu Wenqiang looked at the four people outside the classroom again. They were basking in the sunshine, enjoying the envy, admiration, and even jealousy of the crowd. Perhaps this was what was called a child of destiny, openly attracting everyone's attention.

"Classmate, since you know him, please introduce him to me!" said Xu Wenqiang.

Unexpectedly, her deskmate said rudely: "We are just sitting casually now. The head teacher will rearrange the seats later, so we are not sitting at the same table."

"How about I call you temporary deskmate, or Lin Tong for short?"

The girl widened her long, narrow eyes when she heard this: "My name is Lin Tong! Shuangmu Lin, Tong means childhood."

"Alright!" Xu Wenqiang slammed the table. "What a fate!"

Lin Tong reluctantly accepted this fate: "Okay, what's your name?"

Xu Wenqiang introduced herself: "My name is Xu Wenqiang."

"Xu Wenqiang? Do your parents like watching The Bund?"

"Of course." Xu Wenqiang chuckled and changed the subject. "Since we're so destined to meet, why not introduce us?"

Lin Tong glanced at the four chosen ones with disdain, then introduced them to Xu Wenqiang with strong subjective emotions:

"That baby-faced girl is called Chen Mengyao. Her biggest strength is her cuteness, and her biggest weakness is pretending to be cute."

"That pretty girl is called Xing Jiaqi. She's the most likable type of girl. She's beautiful and has excellent grades. Of the four of us, she's the one who likes to be together the most. But she always stands at the back, always letting Chen Mengyao take the lead."

"The boy Chen Mengyao called away was called Gao Zhe. He was the type of guy you'd find in every class. He wasn't very good academically, but he was very good at sports and had a great relationship with people. He always responded to requests, so Chen Mengyao would always bring Xing Jiaqi to see him."

"Xiao Cheng, who finally walked out, is a good student."

Xu Wenqiang was puzzled when she heard this: "This Xiao Cheng, just one sentence?"

Lin Tong leaned over the table, looking at him in admiration: "Xiao Cheng, I can't think of him as anything other than a good student."

After hearing Lin Tong's words, Xu Wenqiang looked at Xiao Cheng outside. He was talking to Xing Jiaqi, both of them had a faint smile on their faces, and that smile was like a secret that could not be revealed.

Xu Wenqiang admitted that she wasn't interested in anyone else; she was actually interested in Xiao Cheng. Judging from his behavior at the farmers' market yesterday, he seemed arrogant and aloof, not as appealing as his gentle, fair face might suggest. But today at school, he was acting like a "good student," humble and polite to the teacher and cordial to his classmates. Lin Tong's assessment of him clearly confirmed this.

Therefore, his arrogance is because he looks down on the farmers' market, and his indifference is because he looks down on the people in the farmers' market.

Xu Wenqiang, having come to this conclusion, avoided Xiao Cheng for a long time. She was afraid that if she couldn't help herself, she would raise her fist and hit Xiao Cheng in the face.
