Compared to the Liu family, the Jia family's situation was far worse. Although Banggeng and Jia Zhangshi were admitted to the welfare home, they were, after all, disabled. They were often the targets of bullying at the welfare home.
Even if there were any good things, they wouldn't get to eat them. Moreover, the orphanage relies entirely on donations; sometimes they might get a decent meal, but most of the time, even basic sustenance is a problem.
The orphanage they were in went out of business after less than a few months. After all, no one can sustain a long-term commitment to charity.
Most people do charity work just for show. Although the situation has improved a lot now, people are still not very wealthy. The owners of welfare homes also have families to support, and it's impossible for them to support so many people when they themselves are struggling to make ends meet.
When the welfare hospital could no longer sustain itself, Banggeng and Jia Zhangshi became true beggars. Banggeng was relatively better off; at least he could still crawl on the ground, and people who saw him would at least show him some pity.
Jia Zhangshi's situation was much more tragic. Not only were both her legs broken long ago, but she was also blind. Bang Geng could still go around begging, but Jia Zhangshi couldn't even see the road.
In order to survive, Jia Zhangshi could only keep feeling around with her hands, and only dared to continue crawling forward after confirming that it was completely safe. This caused inconvenience to many people. When Jia Zhangshi reached the road, all the vehicles had to stop for her.
Cars might stop for Jia Zhangshi, but trains wouldn't. Even a normal person wouldn't climb onto the train tracks, but Jia Zhangshi, being blind, couldn't recognize the way. After begging for a month or two, she eventually ended up on a section of train tracks.
Ordinary people could see the special markings, but Jia Zhangshi couldn't see them at all. Without any hesitation, she climbed onto the train tracks.
She only realized what was happening when the train arrived, and her first instinct was to get out of there. However, not knowing which track the train was on, she scrambled around like a headless fly. Unfortunately, she ended up on the correct track. The train driver had no idea someone was below, and Jia Zhangshi was crushed to death. Because of the remote location, no one knew she had been run over.
Not long after the train left, several stray dogs arrived and swallowed all of Jia Zhangshi's crushed remains. No one cared about the stench, since people often defecated on trains.
Even if dried meat appeared on the train tracks, no one would care. No one cared after Jia Zhangshi's death either, because only Banggeng remained of the Jia family. Banggeng was busy begging and had no time for his grandmother; even if he knew, he would probably pretend not to know.
Instead of worrying about his grandmother, he should go out and beg more; maybe he could earn something. That way, he might be able to hold on a little longer.
Bang Geng had considered ending it all, but he could never bring himself to do it. Living was torture for Bang Geng too. Because his hands and feet had been deformed, he couldn't use the toilet. With no one to care for him, his lower body quickly rotted away.
Watching one's own body slowly decay is no small test. Bang Geng grew more and more depressed each day; perhaps even the heavens couldn't bear to see it anymore.
While Banggeng hesitated, fate made the decision for him. Since Banggeng had nowhere to live, he slept under bridges or in dilapidated temples at night.
These places all share one characteristic: they are dark and damp. And snakes, insects, and rodents love to frequent these places. While Banggeng was fast asleep, a venomous snake appeared beside him.
The pheasant was already in considerable pain, and the venom had a numbing effect. The pheasant thought it had simply been poked by a branch while sleeping and paid no attention, unaware that the venom was slowly entering its body. And so it died without ever realizing it.
It wasn't until the body emitted a foul odor that everyone realized Banggeng was dead. Finally, the police took Banggeng to the crematorium. Since no one claimed his ashes, they remained at the funeral home.
The development of others was not affected by these events. The Xu family and the Zhang family have always been at odds, and they would often try to trip each other up.
This resulted in both of their businesses not doing very well. While others were making huge profits, they could only maintain the status quo. As others' businesses grew larger, their market share shrank.
After Xu Damao returned, the two sides clashed several more times, each time resulting in mutual losses. This left both families constantly teetering on the brink of starvation.
Only Sha Zhu's family lived a relatively comfortable life. However, due to the characteristics of the era, they were unable to become extremely wealthy. As He Daqing grew old, He Chen became the head chef of another restaurant.
The family was fairly happy and content, with Sha Zhu's other children each pursuing their own paths. While they couldn't compare to Wei Hua's family, they were much better off than the average person.
Although Wei Hua has stepped down from the limelight, he still periodically releases new technologies. This has enabled the companies he controls to continuously develop. Even the nation has prospered thanks to the technologies Wei Hua has contributed to.
After giving birth to their eighth child, Wei Hua and Yang Tao didn't have any more. They dedicated their careers to their child and, like carefree wanderers, traveled extensively throughout the country, leaving their mark on every corner of China. They remained as sweet as if they were just starting out in love.
Wei Hua's children lived up to expectations, and under the guidance of Wei Hua and Yang Tao, they all made good progress.
Wei Hua and Yang Tao became the envy of everyone. Their careers and love stories became legends of their time. Even decades later, Wei Hua and Yang Tao remain idols for many.
