Chapter 137 Yi Zhonghai and Qin Huairu Get Their Retribution

Only after everyone worked together to put out the fire at Wei Hua's house did they have the mind to deal with the Jia family and the deaf old lady's house. Because the doors were locked from the outside, the two women managed to climb out of the window, but they couldn't save their belongings.

Fortunately, the deaf old lady had taken most of her belongings with her. Qin Huairu, perhaps because she was trying to save her two daughters, escaped without taking anything with her.

Even though the fire had reached the roof, Qin Huairu had no choice but to go inside to salvage her belongings. She knew she had no money to buy new things if they were destroyed. After smashing the lock with a stone, she rushed inside.

Everything useful was brought out by Qin Huairu. But just as she was about to bring out the last item, the roof beam gave way. The entire beam collapsed from the roof, landing directly on the bed.

Although the roof beam didn't hit Qin Huairu, it broke, and the wooden strips and tiles on it couldn't bear the weight and fell down. These things, however, struck Qin Huairu squarely, causing her to tumble and fall heavily in the room.

If that were all, it wouldn't have been so bad, but unfortunately, Qin Huairu's clothes got caught on these things, and since these things were already on fire, the fire spread to Qin Huairu's body.

Being set ablaze in a fire isn't actually the biggest danger. The biggest danger is the high temperature and dust generated during a fire.

If your clothes catch fire, you can simply roll on the ground a couple of times to put out the flames. If that doesn't work, just take your clothes off.

In the raging fire, intense heat and dust were everywhere. There was simply no way to avoid them. Qin Huairu, who had tripped and fallen, inhaled a lot of dust and was also burned again by the intense heat.

Qin Huairu could only take off her clothes and push away the things on her body. Just as she stood up to walk outside, something fell down from above her head again.

Not only did the object smash Qin Huairu until she cried out in pain, but it also burned off the little bit of hair that had just grown out. The thick smoke choked Qin Huairu, blurring her vision, and tears streamed down her face like they were free.

Fortunately, Qin Huairu still remembered the way out. Faced with her life, money and other things became insignificant. Now, Qin Huairu just wanted to get out as quickly as possible; if she stayed in the Jia family, she might even be burned to death.

Whether it was divine retribution or not, just as Qin Huairu was about to run out of the Jia family home, a beam fell down from above. Even with half her body already out, Qin Huairu was still struck by the beam.

Fortunately, the beam didn't strike Qin Huairu's spine directly, but rather her leg. This left one of Qin Huairu's legs inside the Jia family compound, while her body ended up outside.

Seeing this, no one knew what to say. Putting out the fire was simple, but no one was willing to risk their life for Qin Huairu.

All everyone could do was keep fighting the fire with buckets of water; no one dared to go inside to rescue people. If a beam fell down while they were rescuing people, the rescuers could very well be crushed to death.

Doing good deeds requires considering the price to pay. The people in the courtyard all had some grudges against Qin Huairu or the Jia family, and all they could do was keep watering the plants; as for Qin Huairu, nobody cared.

It wasn't until the neighborhood committee officials arrived at the courtyard house that anyone went to rescue Qin Huairu. Due to their duties, the neighborhood committee officials entered the Jia family's house immediately after the fire was brought under control. They used wooden beams to lift the crossbeams, pulled Qin Huairu's legs out, and quickly dragged her away from the house.

After rescuing Qin Huairu, the neighborhood committee immediately began investigating the cause of the incident. To find out what happened, the neighborhood committee conducted routine questioning of everyone in the courtyard.

When the neighborhood committee learned that many homes were locked, they realized that the fires were not spontaneous combustions, but rather arson committed intentionally.

After questioning the deaf old lady and Qin Huairu, the people from the neighborhood committee quickly identified Wei Hua and Yi Zhonghai.

In order to investigate this matter, the people from the neighborhood committee immediately split up and took action. They also learned from the people in the courtyard that Wei Hua was taking care of his wife and children at the neighborhood committee office.

The neighborhood committee still sent two people to the hospital to inquire about the situation. Although Wei Hua was almost entirely innocent, they still had to ask him some questions.

Unless someone is mentally unstable, Wei Hua wouldn't burn down the courtyard house, especially since he was just promoted today. Who would do something so foolish when they're riding high? Even if someone were to do something foolish, no one would be stupid enough to set their own house on fire.

Wei Hua was the only one not home in the entire courtyard, so we had to ask him what needed to be asked. Besides, the oil vat that Wei Hua used to store oil was found in the middle of the courtyard.

But many people are looking for another suspect in this case, Yi Zhonghai. This is because everyone who was locked up had a conflict with Yi Zhonghai.

If we take into account Yi Zhonghai's past actions, he would have had sufficient motive to burn down the courtyard house.

In order to find Yi Zhonghai, the culprit, the neighborhood committee and the people from the courtyard all took lanterns and searched the surrounding area.

Yi Zhonghai hadn't actually gone far; in fact, he hid nearby. He wanted to know if he had avenged himself.

Seeing that others were looking for him, Yi Zhonghai could only hide himself even more tightly to avoid being found. To better conceal himself, Yi Zhonghai hid in a nearby grove of trees. He lay flat on the ground and covered himself with leaves and weeds.

Even though it hurt when the leaves and weeds touched his body, Yi Zhonghai gritted his teeth and persevered. Then he became one with his surroundings.

Yi Zhonghai was indeed very well hidden; the people from the neighborhood committee and the courtyard house walked past him twice without noticing him. But no matter how well someone hides, they can still be difficult to find.

Snakes don't rely on their eyes to find people; they rely on their senses. Their eyes and tongues have infrared-like sensors, and coincidentally, Yi Zhonghai's hiding place was in a relatively secluded environment—a favorite of snakes.

Venomous snakes have a certain sense of territory. Normally, a venomous snake wouldn't bite a person, but with so many people appearing on its territory, the snake thought that humans were trying to take its territory. Seeing Yi Zhonghai lying on the ground, it bit him.

After realizing he had been bitten by a snake, Yi Zhonghai could only grit his teeth and persevere, because the people around him had not left, and if he fought with the snake, it would attract attention.

Murder and arson have always been extremely serious crimes, and once caught, one is almost certainly doomed. That's why Yi Zhonghai didn't utter a sound even after being bitten by a snake.

But the venomous snake thought Yi Zhonghai was provoking it. After leaving Yi Zhonghai's foot, it bit him in a sensitive area. Yi Zhonghai could endure being bitten on the leg, but being bitten in a sensitive area caused him to immediately let out a pig-like scream.

The crowd, who had only walked a few hundred meters, heard Yi Zhonghai's screams and immediately came over. When they saw this monster, clutching his groin and screaming in agony, everyone was startled. Especially since Yi Zhonghai also had a short-tailed viper in his hand.

Seeing this horrifying scene, everyone instinctively squeezed their legs together. The neighborhood committee staff were the most responsible; seeing Yi Zhonghai clutching the snake's head with one hand and his groin with the other, they knew he'd been bitten. To save Yi Zhonghai, the staff quickly searched for weapons and used sticks to beat the viper.

When fighting the viper, it was inevitable that Yi Zhonghai would hit vital areas, but no matter how much he was beaten, the viper wouldn't let go. Even when Yi Zhonghai loosened his grip, the viper still held on tightly.

Although the viper was killed, Yi Zhonghai's condition was not optimistic. Regardless of whether Yi Zhonghai was the arsonist, he needed to be taken to the hospital immediately.

Even if a sentence is to be handed down, it must wait until Yi Zhonghai wakes up. Although the street office officials have already determined that Yi Zhonghai is the murderer, they still organized people to carry him to the hospital.

Perhaps because the short-tailed viper's venom is a neurotoxin, Yi Zhonghai suddenly jumped up while everyone was carrying him to the hospital. Those carrying him were so startled that they involuntarily let go of his arm.

Yi Zhonghai fell to the ground along with the door panel and rolled down the slope. When everyone found Yi Zhonghai again, one of his eyes had been blinded by a tree branch.

Faced with this situation, the neighborhood committee staff could only continue carrying Yi Zhonghai to the hospital. As for Yi Zhonghai's injuries, they could only wait until he was at the hospital to discuss them.
