Chapter 57 Jia Zhangshi's Desperate Recklessness

After taking the chicken from Yan Bugui, Wei Hua tossed it onto the cutting board. Soon, the chicken was reduced to pieces; half was put into the stew pot by Wei Hua, while the other half was set aside for later use.

Yang Tao, who had just finished putting up the "double happiness" characters, walked into the kitchen. Only then did she truly realize what was happening. She never imagined she was married. And to someone she'd only known for a few hours.

Yang Tao never imagined she would find herself transported to the past, sixty or seventy years ago. Constantly being set up on blind dates, Yang Tao had long wanted to get married. But who knew she would suddenly find herself in those very difficult years, sixty or seventy years ago, and inexplicably transformed into an 18-year-old girl.

Fortunately, her appearance is similar to mine, and she's even slightly prettier than I was before.

If it weren't for resolving her identity and livelihood issues, Yang Tao would never have sought help from the police station, which unexpectedly led to a marriage.

Although she didn't know the other person's personality or his circumstances, Yang Tao had no other choice. To survive in this unfamiliar era, she had to rely on this man for protection.

Watching Wei Hua chop chicken, Yang Tao was filled with curiosity. She finally mustered the courage to enter the kitchen, and judging from Wei Hua's demeanor, she knew he probably wasn't very good at cooking.

As the lobby manager of a star-rated hotel, Yang Tao has some culinary skills. While not exceptional, they're not inferior to those of other women.

Seeing Yang Tao walk in, Wei Hua didn't insist. He knew his own cooking skills. After more than a year of hard work, he had indeed improved a lot, but compared to others, he was still somewhat lacking.

Seeing Yang Tao's skillful movements, Wei Hua went straight back to his room. Looking at the exquisite paper-cutting in the room, Wei Hua never expected that the system had found him such a treasure of a girl.

Not only can she do paper cutting, but she can also cook, and she seems to be quite good at tidying up the room too.

Yang Tao, however, was also full of questions in the kitchen. She had often heard her parents say that life had been difficult these past few years. But seeing the things in the kitchen, Yang Tao couldn't help but wonder if her parents had been lying to her.

Although she was full of questions, Yang Tao didn't pursue them. The most important thing right now was to get a good meal; Yang Tao didn't know why her body couldn't resist the temptation of food.

After preparing the meal, Yang Tao brought it into the room. Wei Hua filled his bowl with rice and began to eat.

Once the food touched his lips, Wei Hua had to admit that Yang Tao's cooking skills were truly exceptional. Seeing that Wei Hua had already started eating, Yang Tao naturally didn't stand on ceremony either.

The good manners of later generations ensured that Yang Tao did not lose her composure even when she was extremely hungry.

While the two of them were enjoying their meal, the Jia family in the middle courtyard couldn't take it anymore. Huang Xiaojuan's family had already caused enough trouble recently, and now Wei Hua's family was preparing so much delicious food.

Thinking about how Yan Bugui had taken advantage of Wei Hua that day, Jia Zhangshi decided to try her luck again. If Wei Hua was still a greenhorn like before, she could still get something out of him.

If Wei Hua has already changed, I can simply stop trying to benefit the Hua family; I won't lose out anyway.

But when she thought of the written agreement in Wei Hua's hands, Jia Zhangshi had some reservations.

"Dongxu, go to Weihua's house and see if you can get something out of him. He's getting married today, and I heard he bought two catties of meat and a chicken. Yan Bugui also got quite a few things off Weihua. Go and try, if you can get more food, bring it back; if not, get less."

"Say a few nice things when you go, after all, you can't hit someone who's smiling. That way, even if Wei Hua is angry, he's unlikely to turn against you. If it really can't be done, then come back."

"Mom, you should go! I really don't have the face to go. Our family has offended him so many times, he's had a problem with us for a long time. Going now will only make him feel disgusted, you'd better not do such a thing!"

Hearing her son's words, Jia Zhangshi hesitated for a moment, but in the end, she couldn't resist her greed. Even though she knew it wouldn't lead to anything, Jia Zhangshi wanted to give it a try. In the past month or two, Jia Zhangshi had already developed a deep aversion to wild vegetables and aquatic plants.

She got out of bed, grabbed a cane, and slowly dragged herself towards the front yard. Upon arriving at the Wei family's gate, Jia Zhangshi, leaning on her cane, went inside.

"Xiao Hua, your wife is really beautiful. Your aunt came here especially to congratulate you. I never thought that the little kid from back then would grow up to be such a good man and marry such a wonderful wife. I am truly happy for your deceased parents."

"If your parents could see you get married and have children, they would be very happy. It's just a pity that they passed away early and couldn't see this scene."

Seeing Jia Zhangshi rambling on and on, Wei Hua interrupted her directly. Wei Hua knew exactly what Jia Zhangshi was thinking.

"Jia Zhangshi, you don't need to pretend anymore. When my parents were alive, they didn't get along with you at all. Everyone in the courtyard knows what kind of person you are."

"When there's nothing to gain, you'd never use words like those. You only act all friendly when you're scheming against others. What are you up to this time?"

Upon hearing Wei Hua's words, Jia Zhangshi immediately offered an explanation, as she couldn't take advantage of the situation without clarifying her words.

"Xiao Hua, you've misunderstood your Aunt Jia. She's all bark and no bite."

"Hahahaha! What are you up to? Do you think we, your neighbors in this courtyard, don't know? It's just that your family is having a hard time, and you're trying to freeload off me."

"Did I let you and Qin Huairu off the hook last time, giving you some kind of misconception? Do you need me to go to the police station? Let me show you what I, Wei Hua, can do."

Upon hearing Wei Hua's words, Jia Zhangshi knew she couldn't succeed. Since she couldn't gain any advantage this way, Jia Zhangshi could only resort to her old tricks. She plopped down on the table and started eating.

Jia Zhangshi didn't care about anything else now; after all, she hadn't robbed anyone. She'd only eaten a meal at someone else's house; at most, she'd get a few words of criticism, but wouldn't go to jail. Given her situation, Wei Hua wouldn't dare hit her; if he did, she could even extort some money from him.

Wei Hua was genuinely angry this time. No one would feel comfortable being disrupted on their wedding day.

Even though she and Yang Tao had already eaten, she hadn't touched the bowl of chicken soup. Fortunately, there was still a little bit left in the pot. Wei Hua ignored Jia Zhangshi and instead poured a bowl of chicken soup for Yang Tao.

"Judging from your appearance, you haven't been eating much lately. Hurry up and drink a bowl of chicken soup. As for this old woman, you don't need to pay any attention to her. I have plenty of ways to deal with her."

Upon hearing Wei Hua's words, Yang Tao picked up her bowl and began drinking the chicken soup. Yang Tao, who had become the lobby manager of a star-rated hotel, was no fool.

Since her husband had already found a solution, Yang Tao didn't want to interfere. Wei Hua simply served Yang Tao the chicken soup and then turned and left the house.

But as soon as he stepped out of the room, he was stopped by Yi Zhonghai and Jia Dongxu.

However, the two men had different reasons for stopping Wei Hua. Jia Dongxu wanted to settle things peacefully, while Yi Zhonghai wanted to deliberately provoke Wei Hua so that he could take the opportunity to divorce her.

"Wei Hua, let's just let this matter go. Zhang Xiaohua didn't do it on purpose; she was just too hungry to stand it. Give me, Yi Zhonghai, some face, and let's just let this go."

Upon hearing Yi Zhonghai's words, Jia Dongxu walked over immediately. He knew that Yi Zhonghai's words had no effect. Yi Zhonghai was no longer the old man in the courtyard, nor was he a sixth-level fitter in the steel rolling mill.

“Weihua, this whole thing is my mother’s fault. She just couldn’t go on living like this. You probably know what’s going on in our family. We’ve been eating tree leaves and seaweed for almost two months now. Seeing your family eating such good food, it’s no wonder she’s a little tempted.”

Under normal circumstances, Wei Hua might have considered his own interests. But today, no matter what, Jia Zhangshi had to be taught a lesson, even if she didn't go to jail.

Pushing Jia Dongxu's hand away, Wei Hua left the courtyard. Soon after, he returned with officers from the police station. The courtyard was already crowded with people; everyone thought Jia Zhangshi was like a maggot in the toilet—not biting, but still disgusting.

Who would do something like Jia Zhangshi, causing a scene at someone else's house on their wedding day? Isn't that just trying to embarrass them?
