Chapter 4 The Shameless Deaf Old Lady

Only Jia Dongxu knew the bitterness in his heart. Jia Dongxu could only keep telling his baby that he was suffering, but the baby wouldn't say anything. Because if it were to get out, it would affect the reputation of his master and his mother.

Both of them were the most important people in his life, so Jia Dongxu could only keep everything to himself. Seeing everyone staring at him, Jia Dongxu could only quickly finish his meal and leave the cafeteria.

Jia Dongxu knew his reputation was completely ruined. Even his fellow apprentices were looking at him with prejudice. This made Jia Dongxu somewhat embarrassed.

To avoid thinking about those messy things, Jia Dongxu could only focus all his energy on his work. After work, he would flee the steel rolling mill as if he were escaping a disaster.

All the way, Jia Dongxu kept thinking about why his mother and master had asked him to sow discord between Sha Zhu and Xu Damao.

Even though Sha Zhu is nothing special, why would his own mother allow his wife to associate with him? Sha Zhu is just a cook; he has no future like Sha Zhu. With his current skills, he should be able to pass the next assessment and become a Level 2 fitter, at which point his salary will be significantly higher than Sha Zhu's.

The thought of the way Sha Zhu had looked at his wife made Jia Dongxu forget everything that had just happened, leaving only anger in his eyes.

As soon as Jia Dongxu got home, he sat down on the bed. Seeing Qin Huairu approach, he even yelled at her a few times. Knowing that all of this was arranged by his mother, Jia Dongxu hid under the covers after yelling.

What normal man could accept his wife flirting with someone else? But Jia Dongxu, being a mama's boy, always listened to his mother. No matter how outrageous his mother's words were, Jia Dongxu was forced to accept them.

Qin Huairu could tell from Jia Dongxu's expression that he must have encountered something unpleasant at the steel rolling mill. Otherwise, her husband would never have lost his temper with her.

Just as Qin Huairu was about to ask what had happened, Jia Zhangshi walked over.

"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and go to the kitchen to cook. Do you want Dongxu to starve to death? Dongxu has been busy at the steel rolling mill all day. He must be starving."

Upon hearing her mother-in-law's words, Qin Huairu could only hurry to the kitchen to cook, but in her heart she had already cursed the women in her mother-in-law's family dozens of times.

In order to maintain her image as a good daughter-in-law, Qin Huairu could only obediently go to the kitchen to cook.

Wei Hua walked out of the steel rolling mill as usual. However, when he left the steel rolling mill, he had eight jin of meat coupons and several jin of lard in his pocket.

These were the rewards Xu Damao gave. Although not as much as Yi Zhonghai's, they were enough to make Wei Hua happy for a while.

Through the original owner's memories, Wei Hua knew that people in this era were not having an easy time. He could tell just by looking at his fellow workers. Except for a few individuals, everyone was emaciated. Many of them had belts that could wrap around them twice. Everyone's face was pale and sickly, clearly a result of lack of nutrition.

Carrying the lard back to the courtyard house, Wei Hua ran into Yan Bugui. Seeing the gatekeepers of the courtyard house, Wei Hua was completely bewildered. He already had a basic understanding of the people living in the courtyard house.

Seeing Yan Bugui walking towards him, Wei Hua immediately put the lard behind him.

"Uncle, my family isn't doing too well either, so please don't worry about the lard."

If Yan Bugui could be dismissed with just a few words, he wouldn't be Yan Bugui. Even if a night soil cart passed by the courtyard, Yan Bugui would still stop to taste the saltiness.

Seeing the lard in Wei Hua's hand, Yan Bugui wished he could snatch it all away. In order to gain some advantage over Wei Hua, Yan Bugui immediately put on a smiling face.

"Xiaohua, how can you render lard at such a young age? Let your third aunt render it for you. You won't be shortchanged at all. All you need to do is share half of the cracklings with our family."

Hearing Yan Bugui's words, Wei Hua couldn't help but shake his head. Wei Hua knew that if he really handed over the lard to Yan Bugui, at least one-third of the lard would be lost.

"Uncle, your salary isn't low either. Just go buy yourself a piece of lard. Everyone's struggling financially, so please don't make things difficult for me."

“I’m over 18 now, so rendering lard shouldn’t be a problem for me. I know exactly what you’re thinking, so let’s not argue about this anymore. If we keep going, it will affect our relationship.”

After saying that, he turned sideways and carried the lard back to his house. When Yan Bugui saw the lard in Wei Hua's hand, his saliva dripped onto the ground.

After all, the lard belonged to someone else. Yan Bugui had no choice but to accept it. To avoid having any more impure thoughts, Yan Bugui could only hurry home.

Wei Hua wasn't reluctant to part with the lard. It was just that Yan Bugui had no grudge against him. Wei Hua didn't want to harm someone for a small thing. If he really handed the lard over to Yan Bugui, who knew what kind of accident might happen to him?

If I were wealthy, I could let them take advantage of me. But I've only had the system for a day. I'm not wealthy enough to let them take advantage of me.

When Weihua got home, he washed the lard with water. He then put some water in a pot, lit a fire, and put all the lard in the pot.

Wei Hua quickly put the lard into the pot and started cooking. A dozen minutes later, the yard was filled with the smell of pork cracklings.

The aroma of pork cracklings also drew everyone from the courtyard. The adults were unfazed, but the children couldn't resist and all rushed into Wei Hua's kitchen.

Seeing the children, Wei Hua gave each of them a piece or two. He poured the lard into the oil vat, then stir-fried the cooked rice in the pan for a bit, added a few pieces of pork cracklings, and prepared to eat.

Just then, Yi Zhonghai helped the deaf old lady into Wei Hua's house.

"Xiao Hua! Why didn't you invite me, your old lady, to help you render lard? I've been craving pork cracklings for ages. Hurry up and make a bowl of your fried rice with oil for Grandma too. I don't have much oil in my belly."

"Grandma, stop calling me 'Grandma' all the time. You're not my grandma. My parents treated you very well when they were alive, but since they passed away, have you cared about my life or death?"

"When I fell outside, it was the Liu brothers and Xu Damao who helped me in. It was Grandpa Wang from the Intermediate People's Court who called the doctor for me. Where were you, the one who calls herself Grandma, at that time?"

"When my parents died, did you help them in the slightest? You're just an ordinary person receiving government assistance. Why should I give you my best food? We're just ordinary neighbors."

"Besides acting like an old man in the courtyard, have you made any real contributions to the community? Besides siding with Yi Zhonghai when things happen, what else can you do?"

Upon hearing Wei Hua's words, the deaf old lady immediately used her special move.

"Grandson, what did you just say? You told me to sit down and eat, right? I knew it, my grandson still loves me the most."

Without waiting for Wei Hua's agreement, he snatched the bowl away and sat down at the table to eat. He even smacked his lips as he ate, as if he were provoking Wei Hua.

The deaf old lady's behavior also allowed the people in the courtyard to see a different side of her. But most people were observing Wei Hua's behavior.

Everyone wanted to see what Wei Hua would do in the end. Then, based on Wei Hua's performance, they would decide how to treat him in the future.

The person with the most thoughts was naturally Yi Zhonghai, who was standing next to the deaf old lady. Yi Zhonghai had been observing Wei Hua's changing expressions. Seeing that Wei Hua did not erupt in anger, Yi Zhonghai felt that he had understood Wei Hua's bottom line.

This made Yi Zhonghai think that exchanging houses wasn't out of the question. If he could get the consent of most of the people in the courtyard house, he should be able to take over the Wei family's house.

Yi Zhonghai was unaware that Wei Hua's lack of anger stemmed from Wei Hua's possession of the Karma and Wish System. Those who took advantage of him would suffer karmic retribution.

Seeing the deaf old lady's state, Wei Hua didn't say anything. If she wanted to eat, let her eat; he could just make another one later.

Xu Damao only picked up some meat and vegetables, and he fell so badly. Since this old woman is courting death, let her die a more thorough death.

However, the other people in the courtyard were unaware that Wei Hua possessed such a powerful system. Yi Zhonghai glanced at Jia Zhangshi and suddenly felt that his plan could be implemented.

The deaf old lady even snatched Wei Hua's bowl away. Wei Hua was just grumbling in front of everyone. In reality, Wei Hua was still the same quiet, reserved person he always was.
