"By the way, what's going on between you and Mu Wanwan?"
Wan Guoqiang already knew that Wen Lin was pursuing Mu Wanwan. He felt helpless, but was also worried about Wen Lin's situation.
"I regret it."
When Wen Lin said this, pain flashed quickly in his eyes.
Wan Guoqiang let out a long sigh.
"If you had known this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? I advised you before that if you had understood it earlier, maybe you and Mu Wanwan would not have divorced at all!"
Wen Lin clenched his fists and lowered his head slightly to hide the disappointment on his face.
"Qin Chen is also pursuing Mu Wanwan, right? You two are comrades and partners now, so don't let your personal feelings affect your work."
Wan Guoqiang warned worriedly.
"Commissar, don't worry, I know what's going on."
Putting aside other things, Qin Chen is indeed a qualified soldier and a comrade-in-arms he trusts on the battlefield.
"That's fine. Then you can go out first. Take a few days off and come back for training when the group of art soldiers arrive."
"yes!"
Wen Lin turned and left the office.
——
"Mu Wanwan, there's a letter for you!"
Early in the morning that day, Mu Wanwan heard someone calling her name outside. She immediately ran out and got a letter from her hometown from the postman.
Mu Wanwan couldn't wait to open it and read it, but after she saw the contents clearly, her expression suddenly changed.
Something happened at home. Her father's leg was broken, and it seemed to be very serious. He needed surgery, otherwise he might become lame.
Mu Wanwan was suddenly extremely anxious. She didn't care about anything else. She went back to the house, packed her things, and wanted to go straight to the train station.
But she didn't expect to see Wen Lin standing at the door as soon as she pushed it open.
As soon as the man saw her hurried look, he asked, "What happened?"
"It has nothing to do with you. I don't have time to deal with you now."
Mu Wanwan was very worried about her father's injuries and wanted to fly back immediately.
Wen Lin knew that she must have encountered something, so he followed Mu Wanwan silently and followed her to the train station.
Mu Wanwan went straight to the ticket window, wanting to buy a ticket with the earliest departure time.
"I'm sorry, there are no tickets for today's trains, but there are still tickets for tomorrow."
The conductor said apologetically.
Mu Wanwan didn't want to wait that long. If she could buy a ticket in the morning, she could get home in the evening.
"Don't worry, I'll see if I can buy it."
Wen Lin took out his military officer ID and called an old classmate who worked on the railway. In the end, he actually bought two sleeper tickets.
He walked up to Mu Wanwan with the ticket.
"The tickets will be checked soon, let's get on the bus quickly."
Although Mu Wanwan didn't want to accept his kindness, she had no way of refusing at this time.
"I'll give you the money for the ticket, and then you don't have to go with me. My family already knows about our divorce, and they probably don't want to see you."
"Even if we get divorced, I can still visit them. I'm worried about you going back alone, and maybe I can help if I go back with you."
Wen Lin has now guessed that something must have happened in Mu Wanwan's family.
The ticket checking had already begun. Mu Wanwan didn't have time to waste talking to him, so she turned around and walked towards the crowd, ready to get on the bus.
Wen Lin followed closely behind her, worried that Mu Wanwan would be squeezed, so he went out of his way to protect her.
After squeezing for half a day they finally got on the bus.
Wen Lin's classmates were quite energetic. Both of them had tickets for the bottom berth, which was very convenient for both of them.
Mu Wanwan hasn't said a word since she got in the car, and looks worried.
Wen Lin got up and went to buy some food, which included the tempting braised pork.
"It's almost time for lunch, eat something first."
"I don't want to eat it, you eat it."
Mu Wanwan had no appetite at all. All she could think about was her father's legs.
"How can you not eat? You have to take care of yourself before things are resolved."
Wen Lin sat down next to Mu Wanwan and covered the back of her hand with his big hand, giving people a warm feeling.
Mu Wanwan took his food and started eating it in big mouthfuls, but she still didn't eat much. She was full after eating only half of it.
The rest was swallowed by Wen Lin.
The train swayed forward all the way, arriving at one station after another.
The sun gradually set and the moon rose, until it was completely dark, the train finally stopped at Mu Wanwan's hometown.
She immediately stood up and prepared to get off the bus with the crowd.
Wen Lin followed her, and after they left the train station, they headed straight for the county hospital.
Mu Dayong is now hospitalized in the county hospital. Mu Wanwan has not returned home because she wants to know Mu Dayong's condition as soon as possible.
She found out Mu Dayong's ward and after entering, she saw Wang Xiuhua standing by his bed.
The moment she saw Mu Wanwan, Wang Xiuhua's face was full of disbelief, she even wondered if she had seen it wrong.
Until Mu Wanwan called out "Mom".
"Wanwan, why are you back? It's so late, and you didn't even tell us you were coming back so we could pick you up!"
Wang Xiuhua began to look at Mu Wanwan. She was not thin and looked in good spirits, so she must be living a good life.
"I'm already an adult, I don't need to answer. Mom, how is my dad? Did he have surgery?"
Mu Wanwan glanced at her father who was lying on the hospital bed with his eyes closed, and her heart began to hang in her arms.
“It hasn’t been done yet. The doctors here said they are unsure and can’t do it. They said we can only go to the city.
I thought I'd go to the city hospital in a couple of days. Your dad hasn't been in good spirits these past two days and has gone to bed early. Otherwise, he would be so happy to see you!"
Wang Xiuhua touched her moist eyes.
Mu Wanwan quickly hugged her.
"Mom, don't worry, Dad will be fine."
Wang Xiuhua nodded, believing what Mu Wanwan said. She pulled Mu Wanwan to sit down. Just as she was about to ask something else, she suddenly noticed the person standing at the door.
She was so busy talking to Mu Wanwan that she didn't even notice that there were other people following Mu Wanwan.
"Aunt, I came back with Wanwan."
Wen Lin took the initiative to explain.
Wang Xiuhua's face fell and she looked at Mu Wanwan in confusion, obviously asking him why he came along.
Not to mention that Wen Lin and Mu Wanwan are divorced, even if they hadn't divorced, Wang Xiuhua would not be so satisfied with this son-in-law. Now she is even more hostile to him and doesn't want to say a word.
"I'll stay in the hospital tonight. You can go first."
Mu Wanwan wanted to send that person away first.
Wen Lin looked at her, then at Wang Xiuhua, and could only turn around and walk out of the ward. However, he did not leave, but sat down on a chair in the corridor.
He stayed here so he could help in case of any emergency.
