Chapter 68 Snowfall

Chapter 68 Snowfall

Before it snowed, Cheng Cheng received a letter from Luo Xiaojuan.

Sister Xiaojuan is pregnant. According to the time the letter was sent and current customs, Sister Xiaojuan became pregnant not long after marrying Comrade Leng Gang. She is now three months pregnant and will give birth in April or May of next year.

The wind howled and the cold raged outside the window, but inside the house it was warm and cozy, completely isolated from the harsh cold outside.

This is thanks to the most common heating method here: the flue of the stove used for boiling water and cooking in the kitchen does not lead directly to the outside, but to the wall of the bedroom, where the residual heat from the fire warms the entire wall.

You only need to wear two or three layers of clothing indoors. Although it's not as good as underfloor heating, it's much better than having no fireplace at all.

Cheng Cheng sat at her desk, busy finalizing the Journey to the West picture book. She had already completed the first draft and sent it to the publisher, who then gave her some suggestions, saying that some content needed to be revised.

After all that back and forth, she figured the earliest she could do was wait until next spring to see if there was any chance of successfully publishing and distributing the book.

The sound of the wind outside gradually changed from a continuous howling to a dense rustling sound, and then the sound became clearer.

"Mom, is it snowing?"

Xiao Lingxiao raised his head and looked out the window, where it was pitch black.

When Cheng Cheng heard her daughter say that, she listened carefully. The rustling sound did indeed sound a bit like snowflakes hitting the ground.

Suddenly intrigued, she got up and walked to the window, beckoning to Xiaoxiao, "Come on, let's open a crack and take a look."

Cheng Cheng carefully opened the window a narrow crack, and instantly a chilly gust of air rushed in, making the mother and daughter shiver involuntarily.

Seeing his wife and daughter's actions, Zhou Yue smiled helplessly, put down his pen, and stood up to walk behind them.

It was pitch black outside. The family of three huddled by the window, and with the faint light coming from inside, they could see countless pure white snowflakes falling from the sky.

Xiao Lingxiao exclaimed excitedly, "It's really snowing!"

In just a few seconds, Cheng Cheng quickly closed the window and tightened the latch. "Okay, okay, it's too cold! We'll watch it again tomorrow!"

In just a short while, I felt that much of the heat around me had dissipated. Winter in the Northwest is long and bitterly cold, and this is only the beginning.

Little Lingxiao was still immersed in the excitement of seeing snow for the first time, and somewhat unwillingly stared longingly out the window.

Zhou Yue picked up his daughter and, seeing that it was getting late, said, "The snow won't run away. When it's light tomorrow morning, you'll see the whole world covered in white. You can look at it however you want."

Upon hearing Zhou Yue's words, Cheng Cheng inwardly groaned. Snow was a joyful thing, but for those who had to go to work, it was certainly not good news.

It's alright to have a fire wall indoors, but to go to work in the cold wind, you have to wrap yourself up like a ball, it's just too cold!

The thought of having to go to work in the wind and snow tomorrow made her suddenly not want to work anymore, so she turned around and turned off the desk lamp.

"Hurry up and get into bed, go to sleep!"

Zhou Yue put his daughter on the bed, and Cheng Cheng took off the little one's outer clothes and tucked her into the warm quilt.

There was a thermos flask prepared beforehand in the quilt, and the family of three curled up in the warm quilt and gradually drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Cheng Cheng woke up to find the outside world unusually bright.

The distant Gobi Desert, the nearby houses, the bare trees—everything around us was covered with a thick layer of fresh snow. Apart from the azure sky overhead, everything in sight was a vast expanse of white.

Xiao Lingxiao rubbed her sleepy eyes and sat up. Cheng Cheng quickly took out the thick cotton-padded coat and trousers she had prepared. The little girl stood on the bed, stretching her arms and legs, letting her mother wrap her up like a ball.

"Mom, is it snowing heavily outside?"

"Yes, it's raining!"

Cheng Cheng took a thick scarf and wrapped it around her neck and half of her little face. Finally, she put a Lei Feng hat on her head, covering her two little ears completely, leaving only her bright eyes showing.

"Okay, you can go play for a while, but you're not allowed to take off your gloves, understand?"

"Okay!"

Cheng Cheng put boots on the little girl, and the little girl couldn't wait to wriggle out.

As soon as the door opened, a refreshing, crisp breeze rushed out.

Little Lingxiao opened his mouth into a round "O" shape, and with a "Wow!" he turned around to look at his mother in surprise.

"So white!"

She carefully took her first step, the fluffy snow crunching as her boot sank in, leaving a small footprint when she pulled it out.

Little Lingxiao found it extremely interesting and immediately started running around in the yard, leaving a series of crooked, uneven footprints on the thick snow.

Cheng Cheng stood at the door, watching Xiao Xiao frolic in the snow. She smiled and stepped into the snow, the air she breathed in crisp and fresh.

Little Lingxiao ran a few laps, then squatted down and used his gloved little hands to scoop up a handful of pure white, cold snow from the ground.

The snowflakes were pressed firmly into her palm, forming a slightly irregular little snowball. She held it up happily, "Mommy! Look! A snowball!"

When Zhou Yue came out of the kitchen, he saw the mother and daughter playing happily in the snow. His stern brows relaxed unconsciously, and he said with a smile, "The hot water is ready. Keep it warm on the stove. Don't play for too long."

Cheng Cheng turned around at the sound of her voice. The morning light and snow shone on her gentle, smiling profile. She waved to her daughter and said, "Come on, let's go inside and brush our teeth and wash our faces."
