Chapter 101 Slapping Zhou Fangchun in the Face

Zhou Fangchun saw Shu Hui first, but after glancing at Shu Hui's shabby clothes, she was too embarrassed to even acknowledge her.

Every family has three poor relatives. Zhou Fangchun has been in Deyang for more than ten years. At work, he is known as Director Zhou. He has a high attitude and walks with his head held high. There are many parents around Deyang who know him. Zhou Fangchun has no intention of acknowledging Shu Hui.

But he couldn't ignore the task Mao Guangyu had assigned him.

"Sister-in-law."

Originally, Deng Fangping was the one who bought the meat for the roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop. Last night, Deng Fangping went back to Shanguan Village to deal with the public grain matters and stayed there overnight. Shu Hui thought she didn't have time to buy the meat, so she bought it early.

When I returned, Deng Fangping had already bought the meat and was waiting for me at the store.

If two people buy the same amount of meat, even if business is booming, they won't be able to sell all of it in a day.

Shu Hui couldn't stand the waste, so she told Deng Fangping and Shu Aiguo to stay in the shop and keep busy while she pushed a cart to the hospital to set up a stall.

With both sides working together, they managed to sell most of the meat, leaving a little bit left. Since the children were coming today, Shu Hui thought she would save some for them. But when she got to the crossroads, she ran into Zhou Fangchun, who was waiting for someone.

Both being parents of high school seniors, Zhou Fangchun was willing to wait for Mao Xia after school, while Shu Hui had never taken care of Chu Yu, and she felt guilty towards her daughter.

"Second Sister," Zhou Fangchun said politely, and Shu Hui couldn't say anything else.

“I didn’t even know you were setting up a stall in Deyang. What are you selling? Roujiamo (Chinese hamburger)? I’ve never even heard of it. I’m not trying to be mean, but being a self-employed person isn’t something just anyone can do. You’re afraid to even talk to strangers. How can you possibly succeed as a street vendor?”

Zhou Fangchun didn't think much of her former sister-in-law, Shu Hui. She was a useless coward who couldn't help Zhou Jian'an at all, and had no redeeming qualities except for being able to give birth. Dai Qinxue, on the other hand, could genuinely bring benefits to Mao Guangyu. Comparing the two, she made the same choice as Zhou Huilan.

There were still unsold pork legs on the truck, which Zhou Fangchun considered evidence of poor business.

The stalls near her family compound that did good business all sold out and closed before dark. The fact that Shu Hui was still selling at this time showed that business was slow.

If business is bad, it'll be even easier. With a little coercion and enticement, this naive sister-in-law will surely kneel down and beg for mercy!

Shu Hui knew she wasn't as quick-witted as Deng Fangping, and not wanting to hold her daughter back, she kept forcing herself to change.

Now she doesn't blush when she sees strangers anymore. When people buy roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), she can even exchange a few words with them. Today, she was the only customer, and she still earned several dozen yuan. She's not as bad off as Zhou Fangchun said.

“You have three children, why can’t you do something else? You have to try to be a self-employed person, go to the factory to move wood, or do sewing. You can earn ten or twenty yuan a month! You work yourself to death at your stall, how much money can you make in a day? Your brother-in-law and I can earn one or two hundred yuan a month. We are people with status and position. What will people think of us if word gets out that you’re setting up a stall in Deyang? You only care about yourself and don’t care about the lives of us relatives. No wonder you raised such an ill-mannered daughter!”

Zhou Fangchun felt that Shu Hui's business acumen was a disgrace to her. In terms of social status and wealth, she was superior to Shu Hui, yet the daughter she raised did not perform as well as Shu Hui academically. This made Zhou Fangchun feel uncomfortable and her temper flared up even more.

Shu Hui is no longer the pushover she used to be; Zhou Fangchun boasts that the couple can earn one or two hundred yuan a month.

But one or two hundred is only Shu Hui's daily income.

She didn't want to argue with Zhou Fangchun, but Zhou Fangchun actually blamed Chu Yu. What right did Zhou Fangchun have? She was kicked out of the Zhou family with her three children, and the Zhou family took advantage of her misfortune. Now that she finally has a stable career and her daughter's grades are steadily improving, Zhou Fangchun jumps out and says that Chu Yu is ill-mannered!

Even honest people can have tempers.

"Second Aunt, you're wrong about that. I run my business by setting up a stall myself, I don't steal or rob, so what's shameful about it? If you think I've disgraced you, just pretend you don't know me next time we walk down the street." Shu Hui rarely stood up for herself and spoke her mind.

Zhou Fangchun never expected that even she would dare to talk back!

"I only greeted you out of pity, how can you be so ungrateful?"

“You say I don’t appreciate kindness, that I’m incompetent, I accept that. But you can’t criticize my daughter. She’s the best daughter in the world, better than anyone else. What right do you have to criticize her? You say my daughter is ill-mannered, but Zhou Jian’an’s affair makes him well-mannered? Your Zhou family kicked us four out of the house, and that makes you well-mannered?”

Shu Hui was like an eagle protecting its chicks, not allowing anyone to speak ill of them.

In Zhou Fangchun's mind, Shu Hui was a person from the bottom of society. Such a person should not be hit or cursed back. How dare she challenge her and say that the Zhou family had no manners!

Zhou Fangchun's face burned with embarrassment, but she was afraid of being scolded by Mao Guangyu if she failed to get things done, so she dared not completely break off relations.

“Sister-in-law, I’m just trying to give you some advice, how can you talk like that? I’m Chu Yu’s second aunt, would I harm her? I originally meant well and wanted to introduce her to a boy from a good family so she could marry into a high-ranking family and become an official’s wife, but seeing your attitude, I don’t even dare to introduce her to you anymore.”

Shu Hui didn't believe Zhou Fangchun was so kind.

Mao Xia and Chu Yu are about the same age. Such a good thing, why would Zhou Fangchun leave it to Chu Yu instead of her own child? How could that be? Shu Hui is stubborn and believes that no one will truly care about you except those around you. She believes Shu Aiguo when he says this, but she doesn't believe a word Zhou Fangchun says.

"No need for your kindness, my Chu Yu is going to university and doesn't have time to date. You should leave this good opportunity to Mao Xia!"

Shu Hui pushed the cart and left.

Zhou Fangchun got anxious and tried to stop her, but Deng Fangping, seeing that Shu Hui hadn't returned yet, went to the hospital to meet her and bumped into Zhou Fangchun pulling and tugging at her.
