Guan Huichun helplessly turned to Guan Huixian for help. Guan Huixian hadn't expected things to develop in this direction either. She glanced at Dawang and Erwang and frowned: "What are you two standing there for? Hurry up and go home, so you don't get in the way."
Da Wang and Er Wang tried to run away, but Chu Yu grabbed them one by one and brought them back.
“I’ve said it before, no one is allowed to leave today. You, your children, none of you are allowed to leave here. When the police arrive, we will all have to give statements until the matter is clarified.”
Guan Huixian was furious. "Are you saying my son stole it? My son is a good kid, a proper city boy. He wouldn't steal his aunt's money. Why are you stopping them?"
"Whether we'll find out when the police arrive is not up to you. You think your son is upright, but your whole family looks shifty and doesn't seem like they're capable of doing anything good."
Guan Huixian almost spat out blood! Thief-eyed? Chu Yu called her thieving? Small, focused eyes? Chu Yu doesn't know anything!
Chu Yu was not as easy to manipulate as Shu Lan. Guan Huichun had suffered losses at her hands before and felt that things were going to go wrong today.
Guan Huichun had never been the one to bully others in her entire life; this was the first time someone had ever pinned her down.
She was arrogant, but Chu Yu was even more arrogant; she was domineering, but Chu Yu was even more domineering. Chu Yu's wicked nature had her completely under his control. Guan Huichun had no choice but to leave Da Wang and Er Wang at the scene.
What good is Chu Yu's arrogance? Her gold must have been stolen by the Shu family. Even if Chu Yu didn't steal it, can she guarantee that Xiao Jiang and Yun Yun didn't? The Shu family is so poor, and the children don't have pocket money, so it's normal for them to be envious and steal things.
Not long after, Chief Qiao arrived in Huang's city with his police officers. Chief Qiao was sturdy with slightly high cheekbones and had an imposing appearance.
Who lost the gold?
Guan Huichun stepped forward, smiling apologetically, "It's me, Director Qiao. I lost a bag of gold."
Director Qiao and his male neighbor Song Weimin were from the same hometown, and Director Qiao was a close relative of Song Weimin's mother. He had even come to the funeral of Song Weimin's mother. Director Qiao had heard that Guan Huichun had smashed the memorial tablet of Song Weimin's mother, and he was furious about it, but he had never been able to find any evidence against Guan Huichun.
Director Qiao's tone was not friendly:
“Please state clearly where it was lost, how much gold was lost, and when you last saw the gold.”
Guan Huixian took Lao Huang upstairs to check, while Director Qiao stayed downstairs to question him. Guan Huichun answered all the questions. She said that the item was left to her ancestors, that she bought it from a fellow villager on her birthday, and that she found it on the road. In short, she denied that she had stolen it from someone else.
Old Huang was an experienced hand; he went around once and then came down.
"It's my own wardrobe, there are no signs of forced entry, it must have been opened with a key."
"They must have taken it! No outsiders have ever entered our house except for them."
Old Huang glanced at her, his tone unpleasant, "To tell you the truth, if your house is suddenly burgled, it's most likely done by a relative. How would someone who comes to your house for dinner know where your house key is? There are so many people watching TV in your house, they don't have the opportunity to commit the crime. I can almost certainly conclude that it was a relative."
Guan Huichun nearly exploded. "How is that possible! They clearly did it, how can you, a police officer, side with the thieves?"
Old Huang's face darkened; he'd been offended by Guan Huichun's words. He glared at Da Wang and Er Wang, taking them inside for questioning. About ten minutes later, a sudden burst of crying erupted from inside. A group of people rushed over and saw Er Wang had wet his pants, his eyes brimming with tears as he cried out:
“My brother stole it. He said that my aunt and my mom are sisters, so why is my aunt's family rich while ours is so poor? He also said that my aunt often takes out gold to look at, so it must be something very valuable. If we steal the gold and sell it, our family can buy a house! With a house, my brother and I will be able to afford to get married!”
Da Wang had a dark expression. He was mentally strong and mature beyond his years, and always appeared harmless. Guan Huixian told him to call the police because he wanted to move the gold out, but Chu Yu stopped him.
Guan Huichun liked Dawang and often gave him money.
Da Wang felt that his aunt's family had more money than they could spend, so why couldn't they help them out? After Da Wang's father died, the house in the family compound was taken back, and Da Wang and Er Wang lived in a dilapidated tile-roofed house the size of a toilet.
Guan Huixian often said that if they didn't have money to build a house, she and Erwang would have to remain single. Dawang was precocious and knew what being single meant. He knew where Guan Huichun kept the key and got the idea to steal the gold.
He inquired around and found out that selling these things would at least be enough to build a house.
Stealing is something anyone can do as long as they're not afraid. Da Wang was capable of great things, but he was caught stealing money by Er Wang.
Da Wang wasn't questioned by the police, but Er Wang couldn't withstand the pressure and confessed everything.
Guan Huixian was dumbfounded. "It wasn't my Dawang who did it. My Dawang is a good boy. His teachers all praise him for his good studies. He would never do such a thing!"
Director Qiao sneered, "The kid has already confessed, and you still say it wasn't him? Alright, come with us to the station, and we'll find out who did it after asking around!"
Guan Huichun was dumbfounded. There was no way she could send Dawang to the police station, so she quickly stopped Director Qiao.
"I'm not going to report it to the police. Once the items are found, that's enough. My nephew was just confused for a moment."
Da Wang denied it, so Er Wang confessed everything. He could only take the police to the old house behind the family compound, where the gold was buried at the base of the wall.
When the police unearthed the gold, the neighbors who had come with them were shocked.
Guan Huichun's bag of gold contains at least a hundred pieces!
The bag contained a large pillow, a pair of jade bracelets, and several jade Buddha pendants—all valuable items.
This bag is worth quite a bit of money.
"Where did Guan Huichun get so much money?"
"Old Zhao only earns thirty yuan a month, where would the Zhao family get so much money to buy gold?"
