Chapter 161 If only she were a son

After buying the house, Deng Fangping felt at ease. She and Shu Aiguo lived upstairs from the roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop with their child, and they got used to it. With Shu Lan joining them, the house was no longer big enough.

The young woman is getting old, and it's not suitable for her to live with her younger siblings. However, it's not safe for her to live alone in a separate apartment. Deng Fangping is extremely worried about Shulan.

Shulan didn't care. She worked as a temporary worker at the factory, which provided room and board. She lived in a large dormitory room with 16 other people, where there were all sorts of people grinding their teeth, farting, and talking in their sleep at night. Every day when she got back to the dormitory, she was exhausted and just fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow, not caring about anything else.

Shulan plans to squeeze in with Yunyun and rent out the newly bought house. The rent is over two hundred yuan a year, which is more than the whole family can afford.

Shulan is mindful of potential dangers even in times of peace. The good times have come too quickly, and she's worried about unforeseen events happening in her family. Having a house to rent out is a safer option.

With money and a house at home, Shulan felt more confident and put extra effort into designing clothes for Chuyu, working through the night for two days to finish all the clothes.

When Shen Zhuyu returned from Quan'an carrying large and small bags, she looked at the few pieces of clothing hanging in the shop and asked curiously:

"Is this a fresh arrival? This batch is nice, the styles are quite trendy. Which supplier shipped it from?"

Chu Yu smiled and said, "It's the design I came up with, and my sister made it."

"What?" Shen Zhuyu touched the clothes and looked at Chu Yu as if she were questioning her life.

Having been around Chu Yu for so long, Shen Zhuyu has become adept at handling things like selecting styles and sourcing goods.

Designing clothes and sourcing are two different things. Chu Yu is neither a tailor nor a designer, nor does she buy patterns from Hong Kong or overseas. So how could she design clothes?

"Did you really design this? No, how come you can do everything? And who is your family? She's really amazing. You tell her the design, and she can make it for you? An ordinary tailor wouldn't have that ability, would she?"

Chu Yu nodded. "My sister is my second uncle's eldest daughter. She worked in a garment factory for several years and has a lot of design talent."

Shen Zhuyu nodded in agreement. This dress was just as good as the one from Suicheng. No matter what the Hong Kong or European/American versions were, the one made in Shulan was just as good. With such pattern-making skills, it's no wonder that such beautiful clothes could be made.

Shulan brought food to Chuyu and got to know Shen Zhuyu. She had heard Deng Fangping mention Shen Zhuyu earlier that morning. Shen Zhuyu lived with her aunt and had also bought a house on this street. Shulan treated her like one of her own.

"You must be Zhuyu? My name is Shulan."

Shen Zhuyu nodded blankly. Shu Lan was a natural at making friends, so she didn't need to greet her much. In just a few minutes, Shu Lan had won Shen Zhuyu over.

Shen Zhuyu was a little confused by Chu Yu. He said he wanted to sell fabric, but he also came up with so many new clothes. Was he going to sell the ready-made clothes and fabric together, or did he have some other intention?

For Shen Zhuyu, buying a house and settling down in Deyang in just a few months, with her shop's daily turnover exceeding ten thousand yuan, was already a blessing she never dared to dream of in her entire life. However, Chu Yu told her that it was far from enough.

What's a little money? If you have money, you should make more. It's not reasonable to put all your eggs in one basket. Chu Yu just wants to test the waters of fabric and custom-made clothing. The shop will be opened on this street, separate from Mandarin, so that both shops can make money together.

Shen Zhuyu thought she was crazy, a crazy person with courage, but she couldn't help but follow her. Like Deng Fangping, she was self-aware. It didn't matter that she was incompetent; she had good judgment and found a capable partner, whom she would follow for life.

That's also part of her ability.

"Whatever you do, your sisters will support you," Chen Zhuyu said.

Chu Yu nodded: "Buying fabric requires capital, and custom-made clothing requires a group of tailors and sewing machines. Although the shop is small, the investment capital is not small. I think Mandarin is already busy enough. We don't know anything about clothing production, so why don't we bring my sister in and the three of us can work together?"

Chu Yu wasn't short of money. Even though she had just invested tens of thousands of yuan in Xibao equipment, she still had a considerable amount of savings. She understood clothing design, and Shu Lan understood manufacturing; the two of them could make money together, so there was no need to involve Chen Zhuyu.

But Chu Yu pulled her in too. Shen Zhuyu naturally wouldn't exclude Shulan. She wasn't stupid. Chu Yu found the project, Chu Yu came up with the idea, and Chu Yu laid the groundwork for everything. All she had to do was put in some money and wait to get her share.

What could she possibly be unhappy about?

Shulan was a little confused. She was doing so poorly, and her goal was to open a tailor shop. Chu Yu's family fortune was far beyond her reach. How could she have the nerve to say that she wanted to be partners? But Chu Yu took the initiative to propose it.

A custom clothing store is basically a high-end tailor shop, right? Tailoring is her forte, and Shulan is perfectly capable of it, but she has no money! Where is she going to get the money to partner with someone?

"Sis, I know you don't have any money."

Shulan: How did you know?

“You can go back and discuss it with your aunt. Ask her to give you money to join us. Our initial investment will be about 50,000 yuan. I will put in 20,000 yuan for 40%, and you two can split the rest equally. If your aunt doesn’t agree to Shulan joining us, and Shulan can’t come up with the money, she can contribute her skills as a share and take half a share. Zhuyu and I can split the rest.”

Shen Zhuyu may not know how much money Chu Yu has, but Chu Yu knows the amount of Shen Zhuyu's savings.

They are not short of money. Putting aside everything else, the money Mandarin has earned in the period after the New Year is enough for the two of them to live a life of luxury in Deyang.

Shulan had never thought about a partnership, much less about spending so much money.

In her view, opening a tailor shop to make clothes for people requires an investment of at most three or four hundred yuan. You just need to spend some money to buy a sewing machine, set up a stall somewhere, and charge two or three yuan in service fees to whoever comes to make clothes. You can make one garment a day and earn a few dozen yuan a month.

For a fledgling tailor, earning a few dozen yuan is considered good. Shulan, however, is a steady and pragmatic person. She believes she should start by setting up a stall. When she gets older, she plans to hire two apprentices, expand the business, build a base of regular customers in the area, and earn around a hundred yuan a month.
