Chapter 179 Zhou Fangchun Comes to the Door

"Do you want me to step in for you?" Dai Donglin asked.

Chu Yu shook her head. She didn't know that Dai Donglin had such a powerful connection and might be a close relative of Secretary Zuo. Otherwise, why would Secretary Zuo give him face and come to cut the ribbon for his private furniture store?

How could Dai Donglin have obtained a business license so easily?

Other licenses are easy to obtain, but the home appliance license takes some effort. Deyang is not his territory, but he thrives there.

"I'll try to handle it myself first, and then I'll ask you for help if I can't."

Chu Yu was confident in herself. Did Secretary Zhao and Zhou Fangchun really think they could control everything? She wasn't someone to be trifled with.

She gave Secretary Zhao and Luo Changgeng an ultimatum, wanting to see how these people planned to fool her.

Dai Donglin was like a peacock courting a mate, eager to show off his connections and status to the female peacocks. Chu Xiang's matter was neither a big deal nor a small one, and he could have easily covered for them. However, Chu Yu didn't want him to get involved, and Dai Donglin believed she could handle it.

I just feel sorry for her being dragged along by these wicked people.

He rubbed her head and said, "If you have any problems, just say so. Don't bear it all alone. Remember that you have a boyfriend now."

Having a boyfriend means having someone to lead the charge, someone to fight on the front lines. Why do you need to do everything yourself?

After getting off work, Secretary Zhao hurriedly rode his bicycle to the Mao family's house. Zhou Fangchun's mother-in-law, Song Qingchun, was cooking. Secretary Zhao didn't even have time to greet her before rushing upstairs.

Song Qingchun wiped his hands on his apron and secretly followed them. As soon as he reached the door, he heard Secretary Zhao and Zhou Fangchun plotting.

Song Qingchun looked at Zhou Fangchun with disdain. She said that Zhou Fangchun was a scoundrel who cheated not only outsiders but also her own family. She even wrote her own daughter's name on her niece's manuscript. Even though Song Qingchun was Mao Xia's grandmother, she still looked down on this mother and daughter.

Zhou Fangchun picked up her handbag and left. Song Qingchun threw down a rag and complained to Mao Anping:

"If the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam will be crooked too. If the mother is a bad person, the daughter will naturally be no better! I always say that Mao Xia is cunning and just like her mother. You said I was prejudiced against her, now do you believe me? Neither of them are good people."

Song Qingchun favored sons over daughters, and although she wanted to dote on Mao Xia, Mao Xia was too cunning and had been lying and scheming against others since she was a child. Song Qingchun had witnessed this many times and could not say she liked this granddaughter.

She thought her granddaughter was old enough to know right from wrong, but with Zhou Fangchun as her mother, Mao Xia became even more entangled, daring to steal other people's manuscripts! If this got out, how could they ever face anyone?

Mao Anping hadn't expected Zhou Fangchun to cause such a mess. Just then, Mao Guangyu returned, and he asked with a stern face:

"Did Fangchun discuss this with you? What were you and your husband thinking?"

Mao Guangyu wasn't too excited. He'd seen a lot. What kind of trouble could a high school student cause? Shu Hui had only been in the countryside for less than a year and was timid. How could she possibly dare to cause trouble?

"Fangchun mentioned it to me. Isn't this also for the sake of our Mao family? Mao Xia's aunt is from a high-ranking family in Beijing, and Mao Xia's classmate Zuo Ran is the son of Secretary Zuo. I want to bring honor to Mao Xia, so that she can get into a good university in the college entrance examination and marry into a good family, which can help me and her brother."

Mao Anping glanced at him. "What nonsense are you talking about? Where did she get a younger brother? Is Fangchun pregnant?"

Song Qingchun also kept an eye on his son. Mao Guangyu didn't want to hide it from his family. His parents had longed for a grandson all their lives, so they should at least be happy. Song Qingchun and Mao Anping were both Party members and had sound values, but they couldn't refuse a ready-made grandson. As long as Zhouzhou was brought out, why would Mao Anping care about such a small matter as stealing the manuscript?

If Mao Guangyu wants to bring his child back, he needs to communicate with his parents in order to properly resolve the issue.

"Mom and Dad, I won't hide it from you. I have a child outside of our relationship. He's already six years old this year."

"What?" Song Qingchun's eyes widened as he turned to look at Mao Anping's expression.

Mao Anping stood up from the rocking chair, his face contorted with rage. "A child outside? Who did you have this child with? Guangyu, you're a state cadre, you can't make a mistake that violates principles! Your mother and I are both Party members. Even if we don't like Zhou Fangchun or Mao Xia, we never thought of letting you have a son outside. If others find out, if Zhou Fangchun finds out, that's no small matter!"

Mao Guangyu understood his father; no matter how much Mao Anping protected Zhou Fangchun and Mao Xia, he couldn't surpass his son.

Even if a father dislikes his son, would he harm him? Mao Guangyu was at a crucial moment in his promotion, and he needed Dai Qinxue's influence in Beijing and Zhou Fangchun's influence to mediate. Mao Anping couldn't possibly tell Zhou Fangchun about this.

“Dad, I understand everything, but this child isn’t a toy that you can just abandon. He’s not even in his mother’s womb anymore; he’s already six years old and in early childhood education. He’s smart, cute, lively, and active—the perfect age to be taken care of. He’s a member of the Mao family, and I can’t let him wander outside. I have to give him an explanation!”

Song Qingchun, ever protective of her own, said, "Guangyu is right. The child is already born; it's too late to say anything now. Fangchun doesn't like it, Maoxia doesn't like it, but there's nothing we can do. They have to accept it whether they want to or not. Guangyu, tell your mother, what's the situation with this child? Where are you raising him? Who is he with?"

Mao Guangyu explained in detail, and Song Qingchun's brows furrowed even more deeply.

"You actually raised your own child in someone else's home? If the child's father knew the child wasn't his, would he spare the child and Qiu Yun?"

Mao Guangyu didn't intend to let Cao Zhiming know; he had two methods:

First, Qiu Yun divorced Cao Zhiming to fight for custody of the child. He then divorced Zhou Fangchun, married Qiu Yun, changed the child's surname, and registered the child on the Mao family's household register.
