Chu Yu considered many marketing strategies for the opening of the new store. The fabric is different from other clothes. Mandarin can take the high-end route, so the fabric is not necessary. The price difference of fabrics on the market is not much. The big difference is in the design of the garment and the brand premium.
The ready-made garments in the fabric store were designed by Chu Yu, Shu Lan, and He Lu together. He Lu sent the designs every week, Shu Lan coordinated with the workers, and Chu Yu was responsible for guiding the overall design.
The shop has a total of 10 sewing machines. Chu Yu couldn't find that many skilled workers in a short time. Fortunately, Shu Lan had worked in the factory for many years and knew a lot of people.
The fabric store's prices weren't low. These days, there's no such thing as piecework. Skilled female factory workers earn 20 yuan a month. Chu Yu gives them a base salary of 20 yuan, plus commission and piecework pay, as well as full attendance bonuses, star employee awards, holiday benefits, and a day off every week.
With good benefits, many people naturally want to come, but they are afraid that their wages will not be paid in full, or that the company will try to cheat them when settling accounts.
However, Chu Yu bought 10 sewing machines at once, which is something that not everyone can do.
If it weren't for Dai Donglin's connections, Chu Yu, no matter how rich, wouldn't have been able to acquire so many sewing machines. Sewing machines are a major asset, and Chu Yu had stockpiled a room full of fabrics. The room was also clean and upscale, with sofas and a fitting room, making it more formal than a department store.
The female workers were relieved after seeing it.
The workforce is full, but they are still short of someone in charge. Chu Yu is busy with the college entrance examination and doesn't have time, so she wants to find someone with industry experience.
"Chu Yu, what do you think of my master?"
"Your master is in Rongtai. Would she be willing to come to Deyang?"
"It's not a matter of whether she's willing or not. My master's husband was in a safety accident and broke his leg. He's recuperating at home. The family relies solely on my master's salary to support three children, so life is quite difficult. This year, the factory's performance isn't good, and they're saying they're going to restructure it. My master has been thinking about it. If you agree, I'll talk to her and see if she's willing to come in."
Shulan's master is almost forty years old this year. He has more than twenty years of experience in clothing production, is an upright person, and has great ideas about fabric design.
She managed a group of temporary workers in the factory, but her salary was not much higher than theirs because she was not a permanent employee. She did more work than others, but never received any benefits.
Chu Yu thought to herself that it would be perfect to make her the manager.
She was in charge of design and production, and was responsible for assigning tasks to other female workers. Shulan was in charge of sales and design. With the two of them working together, the fabric store would get on the right track more quickly.
"If your master agrees, how much should we offer?"
Opening too many stores is unrealistic. This store has cost tens of thousands of yuan to invest and we've hired four employees. The monthly expenses are huge. Shulan is one of the owners, so she has to control costs.
Offering too few jobs isn't appropriate. My mentor has a long tenure and is in management; he came from the factory to earn money to support his family. If the pay is too low, people might not be willing to come.
"The base salary is 30 yuan, and the salary is based on performance, which includes individual performance and team performance. With two performance bonuses, the total will not be less than 50 yuan. If you do well, it is possible to earn more."
Shulan thought that fifty yuan was not a small amount. Her master had a good personality, and Shulan was willing to work with her master, so she rode her bicycle to her master's house in person to tell him about it.
Shulan's master's name was Jiang Hua, and she lived in Xiaoge Village, not far from Shanguan Village. When Shulan arrived, Jiang Hua was at home taking care of her husband.
Her husband had lost half a leg and was pale, but fortunately, he was in good spirits and could go to the toilet with crutches, so he didn't need Jiang Hua's care.
But Jiang Hua thought that he had just lost his leg and the factory was dragging its feet on paying compensation. It was inevitable that a grown man would be worried after suddenly suffering such a serious injury, so he took extra care of him, hoping that the man could cheer up.
"Master!"
"Shulan?" Jiang Hua happily threw down the towel. "Why are you here? I haven't seen you for almost half a year. Tell your master, what have you been busy with lately? When you suddenly resigned, there were all sorts of rumors circulating in the factory. Some people said you went home to get married, some said you were arrested by the police, and some even said you were trafficked."
After breaking up with Zhao Gan, Shulan went straight to the factory to resign. She didn't even see Jiang Hua. The master and apprentice hadn't seen each other for half a year.
Shulan was speechless; these people were really good at spreading rumors.
"Master, I've opened a custom fabric shop and invested a lot of money. The shop is about to open, but we're short of a manager to oversee the workers. I wonder if you would be willing to work with me?"
Jiang Hua was stunned. Shu Lan was just a country girl from an ordinary family; otherwise, she wouldn't be working as a temporary worker in the city.
Where did she get the money to open a fabric store?
How many workers could a small fabric shop possibly have? Why would it need to hire a manager? Jiang Hua suspected that Shu Lan was trying to fool her, but Shu Lan looked serious and didn't seem to be lying.
“Master, my shop isn’t small, and the wages are decent. The base salary is thirty, plus performance bonuses and performance-based pay. The benefits are also good, and the salary won’t be less than fifty yuan.”
Piece-rate wages and performance-based pay, as Shulan mentioned, were unfamiliar terms to Jiang Hua.
State-owned factories are full of people with connections. Once you have a government job, the government pays you, and the factory owner doesn't care whether you do any work or not.
This was the first time Jiang Hua had ever heard of wages being calculated this way.
She wasn't a naive young woman just entering the workforce; she knew she couldn't completely trust what her boss said. Shulan spoke sincerely, but if the shop wasn't doing well and she only received two orders a day, she wouldn't get any performance bonuses, though her base salary was usually guaranteed.
The base salary of 30 isn't high, but it's almost half as much again as that of a state-owned factory.
The man's compensation hadn't come through, and he'd lost his job. Jiang Hua was supporting his whole family, so even an extra ten yuan in wages would at least ease their immediate crisis.
If business is bad, then say more bad things.
