Chapter 201: Choosing a College Major

Isn't it a case of some people being happy while others are sad?

Even if top students don't do well on the exam and can't get into a four-year university, it's not a big deal. As long as they can go to a vocational college, they're guaranteed a job. The real problem is not being able to get into a vocational college at all.

These days, it's much harder to get into a vocational college than you would get into a bachelor's degree later on. Vocational colleges are highly specialized and don't require four years of study like bachelor's degrees. Some students from poor families choose vocational colleges with good majors in order to get a job as soon as possible and help support their families.

But if you don't get into a vocational college, you either have to repeat a year or go back home to farm.

Shu Hui and Shu Aiguo had nothing to worry about. Chu Yu's estimated score was quite high, and he was guaranteed a place in a top university. The two of them were so happy they didn't know what to do.

Shu Aiguo said, "If you really get into the university, we'll have a half-price promotion to thank our regular customers for their support."

"Half price? There's no money to be made then, right?"

"If we don't make money, we don't make money. As long as we don't lose money, that's fine. Who told our daughter to be so ambitious? As long as she can pass the exam, we'll give her anything, not just half price, but free!"

Shu Aiguo was particularly moved. If Chu Yu really got into university, she would set a good example for her younger siblings. Maybe Chu Xiang, Chu Chu, Yun Yun, and Xiao Jiang could all get into university too!

Shu Aiguo has always felt regretful that Shulan has little formal education, so he can only place his hopes on the younger generation.

Shu Hui asked in a low voice, "Second brother, what kind of school can Chu Yu get into with this score? She scored several tens of points higher than Zhou Jian'an, and Zhou Jian'an got into a top-tier university. Chu Yu must be better than Zhou Jian'an, right?"

Shu Hui hadn't mentioned this man in a long time, and now that she did, she did so with a sense of relief.

It's quite satisfying to think about it. The Zhou family kicked them out of their home, and now they have everything, and their daughter's estimated score for the college entrance exam is even higher.

Shu Hui could tell from the teacher's performance that the score was very high, but she had no idea which schools she could apply to. She thought she should be able to get into a key university.

Shu Aiguo didn't really understand either, but that didn't stop him from showing off. He had taken Chu Yu to the exam venue earlier and chatted with Zhang Zhihe for a bit. He had also overheard a few more conversations just now. Some parents were saying that with this score, he could get into Tsinghua or Peking University!

It's one of the best in the entire Deyang area.

"Definitely better than that coward! Our Chu Yu inherited the good genes of our Shu family. What is Zhou Jian'an? He's not even worth a second glance! Our Chu Yu is aiming for Tsinghua and Peking University!" Shu Aiguo said this with such confidence that he was practically smug.

Shu Hui was stunned for a moment, then nervously rubbed the towel, remembering the divination the master had performed.

"Brother, sister-in-law, there's something I haven't told you, and I didn't dare tell Chu Yu either, for fear of affecting her exam."

Deng Fangping asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Could it be that the Zhou family is causing trouble again?"

"No, it has nothing to do with that. I went to Wenshu Monastery to worship Buddha and donated money for incense. The master then gave me a free fortune telling. He said my daughter is destined to be a top scholar and will sue the top scholar."

This matter sounds mysterious, but the abbot of Wenshu Monastery is no ordinary person. He is very accurate in his predictions. The abbot has no conflicts of interest and has no need to please Shu Hui for money. So Chu Yu is really destined for this.

"Oh my! Why didn't you tell me sooner? This is such a big deal!" Deng Fangping was excited to hear this. If Chu Yu could become the top scholar in the imperial examination, she, as his aunt, would also be proud, and the Shu family's roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) would also benefit.

"I'm just afraid that if I say it out loud, it won't come true."

"What you're saying makes me nervous. I don't know when the results will be released."

When Shulan returned and heard about Chuyu's grades, she was speechless. How did her younger sister get such a bright mind? Every shop she runs makes money, and she's also so good at studying.

"I'm truly a disgrace to our family," Shulan lamented.

Shen Zhuyu shook her head, "Me too. I only scored a little over 200 points on the college entrance exam. I couldn't go to school, so I had to set up a stall. Later, I was lucky enough to meet Chu Yu. Chu Yu helped me make money. Otherwise, I would still be setting up a stall now."

Looking at the dazzling Chu Yu, the two felt a little inferior. As times progressed, a high school diploma was no longer enough. No matter how much money they made, compared to a student from a prestigious university like Chu Yu, they were simply not the same in terms of temperament or confidence.

Learning is very important, especially in China where things are changing rapidly. Only by constantly learning can you continuously make a lot of money.

The students gathered there and refused to leave. Fearing there wouldn't be enough roujiamo (Chinese hamburgers), Deng Fangping also cooked two pots of dumplings made by her family for the students.

The boy has a big appetite; he takes everything out of the house, and that's still not enough.

Chu Yu listened to their conversation and smiled. Deng Fangping excitedly brought over a plate of dumplings and cooked a bowl of vermicelli soup.

"Zhuyu, why don't you go to night school and practice your spoken English? I can also go and study. If I have the chance in the future, it would be best if I could study fashion design and learn professional knowledge from experts."

Shulan thought she was quite good at making clothes, but compared to academics like He Lu, she was far inferior to him in both ability and ideas.

She wanted to study it too, but the night school in Deyang didn't offer a fashion design major.

“Study hard first, get your night school diploma, and then make other plans when you go to a big city,” Chu Yu suggested. “Also, Fang Fang and Chen Yun from our shop are doing a good job and can be developed as talents. They don’t have enough education, so I suggest that the shop pay for them to go to night school.”

This can also be considered a form of employee benefit. Good employee benefits lead to a healthier corporate system. Chu Yu is not stingy with spending money on her employees. She believes that the money spent will return to her pocket in many ways.

Shen Zhuyu would not object.

Let Jiang Hua and Shu Lan go to the fabric store first, and then select the next batch from the best-performing employees. It can be considered an incentive, right?

On the day of college application, the school was packed with people. In previous years, parents were allowed to enter, but last year a student jumped off a building because his parents changed his college application.

This year, the Education Bureau issued a notice stating that only students can apply for schools, and parents are not allowed to interfere. As a result, parents are not allowed to enter the school this year; they are all kept outside.
