After returning to her dorm, Chu Yu took her water bottle and went out. Zhou Fangfang, Liao Xiaoqiao's friend, came to the dorm to borrow something. When she saw Chu Yu's white down jacket, she was extremely envious.
She has such a slim waist even in winter clothes; she has a really good figure.
It would be a lie for a girl to say she's not envious.
"Your roommate Zhou Chuyu comes from a well-off family? I heard her clothes cost several hundred yuan each, and her leather shoes are said to cost 180 yuan a pair and are imported."
"Her family is from the countryside, what's so good about them? Her mother is a self-employed person, running a roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop, just like those street vendors around our school, it's dirty and tiring, and they have low social status, how much money can they make?"
Liao Xiaoqiao disagreed; she looked down on Chu Yu's behavior.
"But she's very generous. She wears and uses expensive clothes and things, and she always orders five dishes when she eats out. She even has a radio cassette player. How could a small business owner have that much money? Did you hear me wrong?"
"When she filled out the family survey form at the beginning of the semester, it showed that her family was self-employed. Some people don't have money themselves, but they hook up with rich men and ask them to spend money on them."
Liao Xiaoqiao was sarcastic, sometimes saying Chu Yu's boyfriend was bad, sometimes saying Chu Yu was pretending to be rich.
To be fair, Zhou Fangfang envied Chu Yu. She also wanted to find a boyfriend who would spend money on her, but she wasn't pretty enough and didn't have any connections, so she could only dream about it.
When Chu Yu returned, Zhou Fangfang asked, "Chu Yu, I heard your boyfriend is from Beijing and comes from a good family?"
Chu Yu didn't deny it, washed the towel and hung it on the clothesline, "His family should be doing alright."
"What do his parents do? Where does she live?"
Chu Yu told the truth, and the dormitory fell silent for a moment. Zhou Fangfang was a little incredulous and tentatively asked:
"Your boyfriend isn't from the compound, is he? Actually, I have a classmate who lives there too. Tell me your boyfriend's last name and I'll help you find out, so you don't get scammed without even knowing it."
Zhou Fangfang's meaning was clear: why would a man with such good qualities go to Deyang?
It might be a scam.
Zhou Fangfang was somewhat skeptical, but it was good to find out for Chu Yu. Who doesn't love hearing gossip about the school beauty? If Chu Yu was really deceived, she would think, "What's the use of being pretty if she ended up with such a scumbag?"
“Yeah, my boyfriend lives there too. Tell me and I’ll ask around for you,” Liao Xiaoqiao said sarcastically.
Zhang Ying and Li Miao exchanged a glance, both worried that Chu Yu would get hurt. Liao Xiaoqiao was really going too far. How could Chu Yu be unworthy of a member of the elite family?
Does she know how much Chu Yu earns in a day?
Chu Yu might already be worth hundreds of thousands, which puts her in a completely different league from these current students.
Chu Yu smiled and ignored them. Let them ask if they want; there's nothing shameful about it.
"My boyfriend's surname is Dai. Find out and tell me. By the way, what's your friend's surname? I'll ask my boyfriend if he knows her."
Zhou Fangfang's eyes darted away. "Hey, my friend is an introverted person and doesn't like me mentioning his name."
"I see," Chu Yu said meaningfully.
Chu Yu didn't take this group of people seriously at all, who were like clowns. But Liao Xiaoqiao kept picking a fight with her, accusing Chu Yu of lying in a sarcastic tone.
"There's no way someone like that would ever be interested in you. Don't even dream about it. And don't blame me for not warning you. Don't think that buying a piece of clothing for a hundred dollars is some kind of incredible favor. Don't get so touched that you throw yourself into bed with them. Little do you know they're just playing you!"
Those were harsh words, so Chu Yu picked up a glass of water and splashed it all over her face.
Liao Xiaoqiao froze for a moment as water streamed down her nose, wetting her cup.
"Zhou Chuyu, are you sick in the head?"
"I am sick, so don't mess with me. If you dare to say such rude things again, I'll slap you in the face."
Zhang Ying couldn't stand by and watch either. Chu Yu had been exceptionally kind to her, and she had long considered Chu Yu a friend. She couldn't possibly stand idly by when her friend was in trouble.
"Do you think Chu Yu relies on men? She started her own business before she even went to university. She even opened a clothing store on Wangfu Street. Her store is doing really well; she can earn several thousand yuan a day! She's much richer than you!" Zhang Ying retorted.
Li Miao chuckled, "That's why they say a full bottle makes no sound, but a half-full bottle rattles."
Chen Qiufen pushed up her glasses. She hadn't expected Chu Yu to start her own business outside. She was good at research and hoped to get along well with Chu Yu so that she could use him after graduation.
However, Liao Xiaoqiao's parents are both cadres in Beijing, so they can't be offended. They might be needed when she's transferred to a new unit in the future.
Chen Qiufen tried to smooth things over, saying, "Stop arguing. We're all roommates, and we'll be living together for four years. It's not good to ruin our relationship."
"Starting a business in college? Who with real talent would be a sole proprietor? It would be a laughing stock if word got out that a student from Tsinghua University was opening a shop on the street. Only a fool like you would treat her like a treasure."
Chu Yu was too lazy to argue with her, but the next day Mandarin was subjected to a fire inspection. The inspectors said that her warehouse facilities were not up to standard and that she had to close the store for rectification. They also said that Mandarin's signboard was not legitimate and had to be replaced with one that matched other stores.
Chu Yu thought this was just making trouble out of nothing.
Chu Yu's warehouse is scientifically managed, using only the best shelves. Clothes are labeled and placed one by one, making it very convenient to find and retrieve them.
Clothing stores are all afraid of fires, so Chu Yu set up several escape routes and put a lot of thought into the electrical system upgrades to prevent fires.
It's safe to say that there's no other company in China that does a better job with warehouses.
How can a warehouse like this still be criticized?
Chu Yu remembered that Grandma Liao Xiaoqiao worked at the neighborhood office. She was an old revolutionary who boasted that she had contributed to the Great Jiangshan movement and loved to show off her seniority.
