It was Chu Yu and Chu Chu!
Zhou Jian'an gripped his knife and fork tightly, completely stunned, his mind buzzing, unable to believe what he was seeing.
It really was Shu Hui? What was she doing in Beijing? A country bumpkin, divorced, shouldn't she be hiding at home, afraid to go out? How dare she come to Beijing, and even brought her two daughters? Bringing the children to Beijing? Was she trying to cause him trouble, or to get revenge?
Zhou Jian'an was furious. He had thought Shu Hui was alright, but it turned out she was just pretending! Instead of staying home and taking care of the children, she came to Beijing to try and blackmail him. Zhou Jian'an was not going to give her the chance!
Zhou Jian'an adjusted his chair, turning his back to the mother and her two daughters. Chu Yu noticed out of the corner of her eye that someone was watching them.
Looking back, I felt that the figure looked somewhat familiar.
"Mom, doesn't that person look like Zhou Jian'an?"
Shu Hui glanced back. They had been married for over a decade. She would recognize Zhou Jian'an even if he turned to ashes. Who else could it be but Zhou Jian'an? He was dressing up more than before, looking quite respectable, and even had the air of a leader. At first glance, he really did look like a city dweller.
Zhou Jian'an sat opposite Dai Qinxue. When Dai Qinxue and Shu Hui made eye contact, her hand suddenly trembled, and the knife, fork and plate made a crisp sound, attracting the attention of the restaurant waiter.
"Ma'am, do you need any help?"
Dai Qinxue shook her head, her heart pounding with anxiety. Why was Shu Hui in Beijing? Was she here to see Chu Yu? It wasn't impossible, but Dai Qinxue wasn't worried about Shu Hui, this rural woman.
What she feared was Chu Yu.
A few days ago, Dai Qinxue met with Sun Xiulan. Sun Xiulan said that Chu Yu had visited the Dai family and recognized her. After hearing the news, Dai Qinxue was so frightened that she fell ill, fearing that Chu Yu would tell Zhou Jian'an the truth.
If that were the case, all her efforts would have been in vain.
During the Spring Festival, why didn't Zhou Chuyu go back to his hometown to be with that old woman Shu Hui? Why did he bring her to Beijing for no reason? Dai Qinxue complained and cursed at the same time, but she was afraid that Zhou Jian'an would see her. She only ate a few bites before pulling him out of the restaurant.
They both breathed a sigh of relief after getting away from Shu Hui.
Dai Qinxue avoided trouble and was spared Chu Yu's retaliation.
Zhou Jian'an was afraid that Shu Hui would ask him for money, that Chu Yu would ruin his plans, and that these people would affect his future.
As soon as the two left, Chu Yu couldn't help but sneer. Shu Hui, upon hearing about Dai Qinxue's fraud, also felt that Zhou Jian'an had been tricked. However, she shared the same thought as Chu Yu, hoping that Dai Qinxue would scam even more thoroughly.
Zhou Jian'an's workplace wasn't too far from Qianmen Street. A few days later, he saw Shu Hui on Qianmen Street and immediately became furious. He rode his bicycle to block Shu Hui's path and angrily said with a stern face:
"Shu Hui, what exactly do you want?"
Shu Hui was inspecting the shop. She had terminated the lease on the storefront early and had taken possession of the property. She was planning to clean the place when she unexpectedly ran into Zhou Jian'an.
"What am I supposed to do? Zhou Jian'an, you don't think you're the only one who can come to Beijing, and no one else can, do you?"
Zhou Jian'an was taken aback, thinking she was overestimating herself. Did Shu Hui really think she could compete with him? He was able to come to Beijing because he was a college graduate and had a formal job there. What about Shu Hui?
A rural woman without a diploma wants to become a "Beijing drifter" like others. Does she really think that making money in Beijing is so easy?
Zhou Jian'an didn't know that Chu Yu had been admitted to Tsinghua University. He thought that Shu Hui had brought Chu Yu here to work, to be a waitress in a restaurant, or a factory worker in a clothing factory. He thought she could work anywhere else, but she had to come to Beijing!
This mother and daughter are up to no good!
Zhou Jian'an never paid any attention to Shu Hui. When they were in Zhoujia Village, Shu Hui served him wholeheartedly and revolved around him all day long.
Men are inherently heartless. Zhou Jian'an thought Shu Hui was incompetent, which is why he pinned his hopes on him. When he was admitted to university, in order to allow Shu Hui to continue supporting his studies and have money to socialize with his classmates, he wanted to do so.
He did not suggest breaking up.
After finally graduating, he had an internship salary and won over Dai Qinxue. Shu Hui was no longer of any use to him, so Zhou Jian'an divorced Shu Hui without any regrets.
When they first got divorced, Shu Hui cried and sobbed, which annoyed Zhou Jian'an.
Getting promoted, making money, and losing one's wife—that's how it is for every man, and Zhou Jian'an felt no guilt whatsoever.
Who would have thought that just a year later, Shu Hui would become a completely different person. She dressed more fashionably, stood up straight when she spoke, and even dared to talk back to him.
She's gone too far!
"Don't think I don't know. You insist on going to Beijing instead of other cities to work, all just to win me back!" Zhou Jian'an said impatiently. "Let me tell you the truth, Shu Hui, Dai Qinxue and I have already registered our marriage. Dai Qinxue has even taken me to the Dai family home. I'm about to hold a banquet and become the Dai family's son-in-law. I don't like you at all, and we have nothing in common. If you keep making trouble, don't blame me for being impolite."
Shu Hui took a deep breath. "Zhou Jian'an, don't try to make yourself look good."
"Putting yourself in the spotlight? You dare say you came to Beijing not to ask me for money, not to sabotage my plans? Shu Hui, are you desperate for a man, or what? Why are you clinging to me like this? When we divorced, we agreed that I would take our son, and you would take our three daughters. If your daughters become successful, I won't take a single penny from you. And please don't interfere with our lives!"
Shu Hui found Zhou Jian'an's disdainful tone laughable; how could she have encountered such a selfish, arrogant, and irresponsible man?
She was blind to marry such a man and even had four children with him. Zhou Chufei is just like Zhou Jian'an, a perfect copy of him. At such a young age, he is already materialistic and has no sympathy for his mother's plight. All he cares about is wealth and status.
Fortunately, her daughter is sensible and got into Tsinghua University, and Shu Hui also has her own career.
