Zhou Fangchun looked at Lao Ding with a troubled expression. "Lao Ding, your wife said I'm a liar, and I've returned the money to you. With the money out, this account is now empty. Now other people are waiting to claim it. They have a lot of money; they could have nearly 100,000 yuan saved up. I have no choice but to give the account to them."
Old Ding's face turned a deep shade of liver with anger, but no matter what he said, Zhou Fangchun refused to open an account for him.
"We don't accept individual investors anymore. Your amount is too small, there's nothing I can do about it."
Old Ding almost knelt down, pleading, "Chairman, you must think of a way for me."
Zhou Fangchun had no choice but to say, "Well, you know our minimum account opening amount is 12,000. If you can reach that amount, I'll open an account for you. Otherwise, as you can see, other people have accounts with tens of thousands of yuan, while yours is only 3,000 yuan. I can't waste an account for you."
Where did Lao Ding get so much money?
On the way back, Lao Ding was extremely hostile towards Chen Li, treating her like his enemy.
"It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, the president would never have kicked me out!"
Old Ding glared at her. Chen Li hadn't expected things to turn out this way. In her mind, Zhou Fangchun must have looked shifty and had a lot of loopholes in his words. When they accused him of being a liar, he would show obvious panic.
In reality, Zhou Fangchun was not what she thought at all. After attending a mutual aid meeting with Lao Ding and hearing how others trusted Zhou Fangchun, Chen Li's firm resolve wavered.
She also somewhat believed in mutual aid societies.
If this weren't true, how could it be withdrawn so easily? Zhou Fangchun was too generous in giving the money, paying every penny of interest, even including today's interest.
"Old Ding, what exactly is this mutual aid society? Why are the interest rates so high?"
Old Ding was only willing to explain to his wife in detail after seeing that she believed him:
"The meaning of a mutual aid society is to help each other. For example, if you are a big business owner and you need 100,000 yuan, the president will give you our money to use, collect high interest, and then give the interest back to us. In the end, it is a society where everyone helps each other, which is very safe and reliable!"
"That interest rate is too high."
"Why can't I understand you? Don't you understand such a simple principle? The interest rate is high because there are more people and more money. When so many brothers and sisters pool their money together, of course the interest rate will be high. Even if you put it in a bank, it would still be a lot of money."
Chen Li nodded as if she understood, and the two returned home. Ding Da stepped forward and asked:
"Uncle, Aunt, have you refunded the money?"
“We withdrew, and now your uncle is unhappy. He feels we're hindering his path to wealth.”
After Chen Li finished speaking, she seemed to remember something and asked him, "How old is the person who told you that the mutual aid society is a Ponzi scheme, and where do they work?"
Ding Da had no idea what Chu Yu did. He had only heard about her from a colleague who said she was still in college, not very old, and looked no more than twenty.
Upon hearing that the person who bought the house was a college student who hadn't yet found a job, Chen Li scoffed dismissively.
Ding Da spoke with great conviction, describing it as a Ponzi scheme and a pyramid structure, saying that money could be easily obtained in the early stages, but later, once the money accumulated, the chairman would abscond with the funds.
Chen Li assumed the other party was a financial tycoon, someone who must at least be a bank employee.
Kedingda said the other party was not yet employed.
Such a person has no social experience and has no idea what is right or wrong.
"She's only a few years old, yet she dares to give advice to others so casually. People like that are just bored."
Ding Da was taken aback. Chen Li's words clearly contained a complaint; she felt that he was meddling in their business and hindering their ability to make money.
“Auntie, although she is young, she can afford to buy a courtyard house, which shows that she is not an ordinary person. She is also a college student, knowledgeable and insightful. What reason would she have to lie to us?”
Chen Li scoffed, "How could a twenty-year-old girl afford a courtyard house? Don't you even think about where she got the money? If you ask me, she must have hooked up with some rich guy and become his concubine. Only you would believe someone like that."
Ding Da frowned. Chen Li's words were too harsh. Miss Zhou was not that kind of person at all. She was just trying to give them some advice for their own good, but his uncle and aunt didn't appreciate it and even complained that he was causing trouble.
Ding Da was disheartened and didn't even eat dinner there.
Chen Li regretted not listening to Lao Ding and instead listening to a young girl's alarmist talk. Lao Ding knew she regretted it and was a little angry.
"Now it's all good, there are no more accounts."
"Why not? Didn't the president say that as long as you meet the membership requirements, you can join?"
"But where are we going to get this money? All our savings combined don't even amount to five thousand yuan."
The two of them worked hard all their lives and this is all they have in savings. Old Ding's family doesn't have an ancestral home, so they can't sell their house to join the association like Old Zhao did.
Chen Li hesitated for a moment, then sat down next to Lao Ding.
“My company has some money with me. I can take out 20,000 yuan. Once we make money, we can withdraw the principal and fill the hole.”
Chen Li had worked as an accountant her whole life, and no money had ever passed through her hands without a single mistake. She hesitated to embezzle public funds to join the mutual aid society. But she had been brainwashed by Lao Ding, who felt that she would be a fool not to seize such a good opportunity.
The company isn't in a hurry to use this 20,000 yuan; it can circulate in her hands for two months. Once the two months are up, she'll withdraw the money, repay the company's loan, and the remaining few thousand yuan in interest will be hers.
Old Ding was overjoyed; nothing could be better than his wife believing in and supporting him.
He quickly had Chen Li count the money, and together with the three thousand yuan he had, they went to the mutual aid association.
When Zhou Fangchun saw them, she knew what was going on, but she said:
