"I'll do whatever you want, but Hong Kong has a lot of blackboards and the security is a bit chaotic. I'll send two people to follow you, and you can't refuse me."
Dai Donglin sent two muscular men wearing sunglasses and black T-shirts. The tall one was named Li Jinchao, and the short one was named Chen Shunan. These two used to be involved in gangs and were quite familiar with Hong Kong. Later, their gang was swallowed up by a branch, and the two of them withdrew from the gang.
In order to make a living, the two worked as bodyguards for wealthy people in Hong Kong. After Dai Donglin came to Hong Kong, he found them through other people's connections.
"Brother Li, Brother Chen," Chu Yu greeted them.
Li Jinchao, a man of few words, nodded to her, "Miss Zhou."
Chen Shunan was talkative and always smiling. "Miss Zhou, please feel free to tell us if you need anything."
This was Chu Yu's first time meeting them, and she didn't want to be overly enthusiastic, lest she leave the impression of being weak and easily manipulated, nor did she want to be overly aloof, making her seem strong and difficult to get along with.
She said politely, "I'll have to trouble you to take good care of me for the next few days."
The two of them repeatedly agreed.
Chu Yu took out a map to find the restaurant's location. The bodyguards were all in the shadows and wouldn't show themselves unless absolutely necessary, so Chu Yu didn't ask them for directions.
She walked for a while, but seemed to have gone the wrong way, and couldn't find the restaurant after searching for a long time.
There was an old man with a fierce face by the roadside.
Chu Yu greeted him with a smile: "Hello, sir, do you know how to get to Want Want Cafe?"
She spoke with a mainland accent, completely different from Cantonese. These days, mainlanders are rare in Hong Kong. The old man lifted his eyelids and snorted.
"I know, their chicken thighs are very famous."
Chicken thigh is the same as chicken leg. People in the port city rarely go to foreign fast food restaurants to eat chicken legs.
Chu Yu smiled broadly: "Do you often go there to eat?"
"Of course, this shop has larger chicken legs and tastes better. Many people go there for nostalgia, and the price isn't too expensive, so business is always good."
As the old man spoke, he carried a bag and walked forward expressionlessly.
There weren't many people around, so Chu Yu followed up, "Sir, I'm new to Hong Kong and don't know what to eat. Could you recommend some good dishes at this restaurant?"
"Is that even a question? It's definitely the big-faced chicken leg, the sweet and salty chicken thigh with red bean ice, and an egg noodle soup. That'll keep you full all day."
The old man wasn't exactly warm, but Chu Yu kept smiling and was very friendly. They say you can't hit a smiling face, so when the old man went to the convenience store to buy cigarettes, Chu Yu paid for them for him. Finally, he looked up and looked her up properly.
The young girl is beautiful; regardless of whether it's Hong Kong or the mainland, or what era people consider beautiful, she's a stunning beauty.
"Where do you work? Why don't you participate in the Miss Hong Kong pageant?"
Chu Yu smiled and shook her head, "I'm a student at Tsinghua University. I'm in Hong Kong on some business. How could I possibly participate in a beauty pageant?"
“Oh? Tsinghua University! I know it’s the best university on the mainland,” the old man said, smoking a cigarette. “You’ve had the college entrance exam in mainland China for several years now, and with all this reform and opening up, you wouldn’t have seen students like you a few years ago. You’d all be mainlanders who came here illegally.”
These are undeniable facts.
Chu Yu will not avoid the topic.
She chatted with the old man about everyday things, mentioning the purpose of her trip. When she heard that she had come to the port city to learn from his experience and buy his recipe, the old man's attitude was not very friendly.
"Buy the recipe? You think that if the recipe is the same, you can make the same taste? You businessmen are always thinking about getting rich quick, and you never take the time to study food. The food of Hong Kong will be ruined by you sooner or later."
The old man's expression changed in an instant; his temper was so eccentric that Chu Yu was completely baffled.
She planned to ask someone else, as it wasn't like she needed him. But after taking only a few steps, a roaring sound came from behind her. Before Chu Yu could react, the old man exclaimed, pointing in the direction the motorcycle had gone and shouting:
"You bastard! You stole my wallet, aren't you afraid of shortening your lifespan?!"
Chu Yu was stunned for a moment before realizing that the old man had been robbed. Chinese people are inherently helpful, and just as Chu Yu was about to call for bodyguards, Li Jinchao, dressed in black, rushed out like an arrow.
Chen Shunan smiled and said, "Don't worry, Miss Zhou. Li Jinchao used to be a supercar athlete and his running results are very good. These two idiots are no match for him."
Motorcycles are undoubtedly faster than running, but the city has a high population density and frequent traffic jams, so motorcycles can't really go fast. Li Jinchao is a supercar athlete, so it's not impossible for him to overtake these two robbers.
Less than ten minutes later, Li Jinchao returned carrying a black leather bag. Chu Yu handed the bag to the old man and asked him to count the contents.
She did a good deed, and even if the old man doesn't express his gratitude, he should at least greet her with a smile, right?
On the contrary, the old man opened his purse with a dark face, checked it, and after confirming that not a single penny was missing, he snorted coldly, rolled his eyes, and left.
"This old man..." Chu Yu was extremely helpless. It was the first time she had ever met an old man with such a bad temper.
Li Jinchao had eaten at this ice cream parlor and gave Chu Yu directions. The parlor wasn't hard to find, but the main entrance wasn't on the main road, and Chu Yu had passed by it several times without finding it.
She went inside and was about to order when she looked up and saw that difficult old man from before standing at the bar collecting money.
When the old man saw him, he snorted coldly and ignored him.
Chu Yu smiled helplessly, "Grandpa, I haven't offended you. What is it about me that you don't like?"
The old man didn't mince words. "Where are you talking about? Don't think I don't know. You capitalists think you can open a restaurant just because you have some money. You'll do anything to make money. You either throw feces at my doorstep or try to run us over. There's a car chase robbery here, and then there's a long-distance runner bodyguard there. Your script is completely illogical."
