Chapter 357 Visiting the Luo Family

"Underwear?" Chu Yu walked up to Shu Hui.

Shu Hui was too shy to say it directly, "It's those three vests you bought for me from Hong Kong, the beige, light blue, and black ones, and the matching underwear, they've all been stolen."

When Chu Yu went to the port city, he found that Chu Xiang was not wearing a bra. She was wearing a t-shirt under a t-shirt to make it less likely that her chest would be visible.

People are very conservative these days, and there aren't many good underwear options on the market.

Chu Yu gave Chu Xiang a lecture, telling her not to feel ashamed of her body, and bought her five or six sets of underwear. She also bought a few sets for Shu Hui and Chu Chu as well.

Chu Yu didn't know Shu Hui's size, so she called Shu Hui before buying the bra and asked her to measure her measurements. Shu Hui was shy and reserved, and kept declining, saying that she was too old to wear one or not.

Just wear any old clothes.

Chu Yu ignored her and bought her several sets of beautiful lingerie. When Shu Hui saw the sexy lingerie, she blushed and said that she was too old to wear such sexy clothes.

Chu Yu, however, did not think that women lose their gender and self-respect as they get older.

Even if Shu Hui is only in her forties, or even in her seventies or eighties, it is her right to wear underwear. Why should she be embarrassed?

Under her persuasion, Shu Hui gradually let go of her inhibitions. After wearing it for a few months, she found that the underwear was indeed better than those in mainland China. It had better support and better coverage. Wearing the underwear over a sweater made her figure look much better.

Shu Hui then put it on.

Who would have thought that after washing and drying them in the yard, they would be stolen that evening?

It wasn't just today that they stole them; Shu Hui hadn't noticed a few days ago, but now that she's taken stock, she's discovered that three sets of underwear have been stolen.

Chu Yu thought that no one but Cao Gang could do something so disgusting, but they couldn't very well rummage through Cao Gang's house, could they? He wouldn't be stupid enough to leave his things at home.

"Mom, stay away from this person. If it really comes down to it, I'll go ask Uncle Luo for help."

When Shu Hui heard that she had gone to Luo Kangcheng because she had lost her underwear, she blushed with embarrassment. How was she supposed to explain this to Luo Kangcheng? She couldn't very well say, "My underwear and panties were stolen."

What kind of underwear? Triangular, with lace and mesh, and a bow on top.

"Fine, let him steal it. Just don't go looking for him. I can't bring myself to ask him for it."

Chu Yu smiled. Shu Hui was too thin-skinned, but this kind of thing was indeed a bit embarrassing.

She also began to examine her mother's life.

She didn't want Shu Hui to find a man because she felt that Shu Hui was rich and had children. If she married a man like Cao Gang, a hypocritical piece of trash, she would not only have to serve the man but also his whole family. The man would also have his eyes on Shu Hui's property.

Chu Yu felt it wasn't worth it.

But she never imagined that all three of them would get married. When Shu Hui lived alone in the future, she would probably encounter more things like this. Shu Hui was too shy to ask her for help, so she just endured it.

If this continues, it's hard to guarantee that something even worse won't happen.

She can't be with Shu Hui all the time. Perhaps Shu Hui also needs to find a partner, not for romantic love, but someone who can take care of each other, share household chores, and accompany Shu Hui to the hospital for check-ups when she gets old.

"Mom, would you like to find me a stepfather?" Chu Yu asked with a smile.

Shu Hui didn't expect her to bring this up suddenly, but she knew what she meant.

"Mom doesn't want to find someone. Your dad ruined my life. I'm afraid of men now."

Since she had already said that, Chu Yu couldn't force her to look for her.

The next day, Chu Yu skipped class. Shu Hui made pancakes, brought some pickled vegetables from home, and dried goods that Deng Fangping had brought from her hometown. Following the address Luo Kangcheng had given Chu Yu, they found the police station's family compound.

The area is heavily guarded, with gatekeepers on duty, and everyone must register before entering or leaving.

In the mid-1980s, this form of registration was still rare; it was generally only used by organizations.

"Are you going to Director Luo's house?" The gatekeeper looked at the dried goods they were carrying with suspicion.

Chu Yu and Shu Hui brought local specialties that Grandpa Luo and Great-Grandma Luo both loved to eat. These families were never short of food and drink. Shu Hui was close to them and didn't play any games; she just wanted to bring the two elderly people some of their favorite foods.

But the gatekeeper had no idea about any of this.

They assumed that Shu Hui had come to deliver a gift.

Director Luo was just transferred here last year. He's decisive and efficient, and he's very good at getting things done. He's currently the district director, and he might be transferred from a local position to become the director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Everyone says he has connections and will eventually become the head of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Shu Hui went to someone's door to ask for a favor.

Of course, we should bring some nice things.

You want Moutai, right? You want cigarettes, right? Or maybe shark fin and sea cucumber? Go to an import store and buy some foreign goods. I heard that in other places, some leaders have received Rolex watches as gifts from their bosses.

Director Luo is a high-ranking official. Shu Hui wants to get things done, but she doesn't know any of the tricks of the trade. She comes to his door with nothing but these local specialties and junk, instead of bringing anything of value. Is that going to work?

The security guard found it amusing and even offered a reminder:

"Director Luo's house was bustling before the Lunar New Year. There were seven or eight groups of people coming every day. I counted, and there were 42 groups of people coming before the Lunar New Year alone, each carrying a lot of things. You didn't come before the Lunar New Year but came after, and you even brought these worthless things. What good things hasn't Director Luo seen? Do you think he would want your worthless flatbread and dried goods?"

Chu Yu understood what the gatekeeper meant.

These days, there are informants everywhere in family compounds.

There was a case before where someone went to a leader's house to deliver New Year's greetings, and after the person left, the leader's entire family was murdered.

Later, it was an auntie from the building opposite the leader's house who provided the clue. She said that seven groups of people came to the leader's house in one day. The last person was wearing a black hat and carrying Zhonghua cigarettes, Moutai liquor, and a net bag full of canned oranges.

Chu Yu used to think this case was a bit exaggerated, but now she realizes it's not exaggerated at all.

It's completely realistic.

Shu Hui was still a little stunned, not quite having reacted yet.

Chu Yu politely thanked the gatekeeper and pulled Shu Hui inside.

Chu Yu knocked on the door, and after a while, footsteps came from inside.

"Who is it?" Grandpa Luo opened the door, saw Shu Hui and Chu Yu, paused for a moment, then slapped his thigh and laughed, "You little rascal! You still know to come see this old man! Old woman, come and see who's here!"

Aunt Zeng came out wearing her reading glasses. When she saw the mother and daughter, she was overjoyed and quickly pulled them inside.

Before and after the New Year, they were constantly entertaining guests, which was incredibly annoying. This was the first time they had ever been so happy.

“Grandpa Luo, my mom knows you love her pancakes, so she got up early this morning to make them.”

Grandpa Luo beamed with joy, and while the pancake was still warm, he broke off a piece and put it in his mouth.
