Chapter 365 A Heart-to-Heart Talk with Luo Kangcheng

Chu Chu went to Yorkham to participate in some English corner. Her classmates from school had arranged an event there, and Chu Chu went along to join in the fun.

Only Shu Hui and Luo Kangcheng had dinner together.

Shu Hui felt a little uncomfortable, but she was busy cooking, washing fruit to serve the guests, and chatting with Luo Kangcheng, so it was a bit chaotic.

Luo Kangcheng chuckled. "You should take a break. I'm a grown man and I don't like eating fruit or snacks. You don't need to bother entertaining me. I'm already embarrassed enough that you're cooking for me."

"These snacks were all bought by Chu Yu. They taste better than the ones in the market. Try a few bites! My dinner will be ready in about ten minutes."

Shu Hui hurriedly went back to the kitchen to serve the dishes.

Luo Kangcheng looked at Shu Hui's courtyard house. He knew that courtyard houses were expensive, but Chu Yu had earned a lot of money outside, so buying a courtyard house was not a problem for her.

Besides, her family is large, and they have a courtyard house with a yard and a roof. They even have daylilies drying in the yard, just like Luo Kangcheng's house in Deyang. It has a very homey feel to it.

The house was very clean, with tiled floors that were polished to a shine, no clutter on the table, and the bed was neatly made with cozy bedding. The aroma of food from the kitchen added to the overall homey feel.

It must be said that the woman's home was really neat and clean, something Luo Kangcheng couldn't compare to.

Shu Hui brought the dishes to the table, and Luo Kangcheng hurriedly went to the kitchen to help, serving the rice. The two hadn't seen each other for a long time, and since Luo Kangcheng had a day off tomorrow, he simply opened a bottle of fruit wine.

"This is plum wine that I brewed myself. Chu Yu loves to drink it. It doesn't have a high alcohol content, but it can still get you drunk if you drink too much. You should try it."

Shu Hui poured him a glass, and Luo Kangcheng picked up the glass and took a sip.

"This wine is exceptionally sweet. Comrade Shu, you are not only a superb cook, but also a skilled winemaker. You are truly amazing."

Shu Hui felt embarrassed by his praise and also felt particularly uncomfortable.

She hadn't had much contact with men; the only man she'd been in contact with was Zhou Jian'an.

Zhou Jian'an loved to put people down. He said Shu Hui was stupid, not smart, not pretty, sloppy, and spoke slowly. He said that if it weren't for his kindness in marrying her, no man would want a woman like her.

Having heard these kinds of words so many times, Shu Hui gradually began to feel that she was terrible. If she weren't terrible, her husband wouldn't have run away, and if she weren't terrible, she wouldn't have ended up in such a mess with her in-laws.

Luo Kangcheng was completely different from Zhou Jian'an. Luo Kangcheng knew how to praise people, was polite and tactful, and was also somewhat protective of his own. Shu Hui had never met a man like this before, and was momentarily stunned, unsure whether Luo Kangcheng was telling the truth or not.

Luo Kangcheng was quite perceptive and could discern Shu Hui's thoughts to some extent. He knew that women like Shu Hui were rather sensitive and that Zhou Jian'an's infidelity might have a significant impact on her, so he tried his best to make his tone sincere.

“I’m telling the truth. My parents praise you every day, saying that only a woman with a pure and kind nature like you could raise such a good daughter as Chu Yu.”

Shu Hui knew he wasn't being sarcastic, and silently breathed a sigh of relief. She drank a few cups of wine, and her cheeks gradually warmed up, perhaps because she hadn't chatted with anyone for too long.

Luo Kangcheng was not her colleague, not her child, and not anyone to her; they were simply neighbors.

Shu Hui had encountered this situation again today, and her feelings were complicated, with all sorts of emotions welling up inside her. Facing Luo Kangcheng, a man of similar age, the alcohol made her, unusually, open up about her true feelings.

“What can I do? I can’t do anything. Back then, I was earning money to send my man to college, but he was using my money to support other women. I finally waited until he graduated, but the first thing he did when we met was to ask for a divorce, and he didn’t even want the children. I was so lost at that time, I had no idea where I could go after the divorce. A woman my age, without a house to live in, with three children, who could I turn to?”

Shu Hui's eyes were filled with tears, her voice choked with sobs, and her expression showed a hint of loneliness and sorrow.

Luo Kangcheng's mind stirred slightly. He knew that Shu Hui had gotten divorced and had vaguely heard the reason, but this was the first time he had heard the specific details of the matter. He never expected that Zhou Jian'an was such an irresponsible bastard!

Imagine how desperate a woman with three children would be if she were kicked out of her husband's home!

Luo Kangcheng took a sip of his drink and stared at her. "Then you went to Deyang to open a roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop?"

"No way," Shu Hui shook her head with a laugh. "I went to stay with my brother. I knocked on his door, but my sister-in-law didn't open it. It was my second sister-in-law who took us in. Later, Chu Yu was selling bat droppings, and she met your grandfather. He told her that bat droppings were expensive in Deyang, so she went to Deyang. After that, she got me to open a roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop and led my sister-in-law and me on our journey."

Luo Kangcheng lowered his head and remained silent for a moment. "When I became a vegetable, my parents suffered a lot."

He guessed why the old man went to the county town to sell luminous sand; he was probably just trying to avoid those acquaintances.

"Isn't Chu Yu amazing? How did she know that the bat droppings that nobody wanted in that cave were medicinal herbs? My daughter can do anything. She runs a roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop, a fast food restaurant, and my second brother's furniture store. She does everything. My daughter is capable, and my life is gradually getting better. The shops are so busy that I really don't have any time. Gradually, I stopped thinking about divorce."

After drinking a pot of wine, Shu Hui became even more talkative.

Luo Kangcheng picked up a piece of braised pork and was happy for her.

"Comrade Shu, you are a role model for all of us because you are able to stand up for yourself. I am not as lucky as you. I have always been busy with work and have not taken good care of my family, my children and wife. My wife is always dissatisfied with me, and my child is not very close to me. Otherwise, why would he have remarried with his mother when I became a vegetable?"
