Chapter 421: Mother, Daughter

Chu Yu couldn't understand what was going on, and now that things had come to this point, she decided to get straight to the point with Zou Minzhao.

Zou Minzhao paused for a moment upon hearing her question. "You're asking me who I learned the roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) recipe from? Well, that was a long time ago. My ex-husband cheated on me, and the other woman was pregnant. He thought she was carrying a boy, so he came home and demanded a divorce. After being kicked out with my daughter, I couldn't find a way to make money, so I went to work at a roujiamo shop. The shop owners were an elderly couple. Their business was very successful; they had been in that city for decades and had bought two houses for their son with their roujiamo business. But as they got older, and their son had grandchildren, hiring a nanny wasn't cost-effective, so they wanted to close the shop and go home to help their son take care of the children. Before leaving, seeing my pitiful state, they told me their roujiamo recipe and told me to open a small shop near the middle school to support my daughter and me."

Chu Yu suddenly looked up, staring at Zou Minzhao in disbelief.

In her previous life, after her mother, Shen Jun, was kicked out of her home, she worked at a roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop run by an elderly couple.

The elderly couple's son and daughter-in-law are both high school teachers. After the daughter-in-law gave birth to twins, she didn't want to stay home to take care of the children. However, hiring a nanny to take care of the twins was too expensive, so she wanted the elderly couple to stay home and take care of the children.

This elderly couple started working and running a shop when they were young. They worked hard all their lives and now they are planning to retire at home.

After discussing it, the two of them decided to sell the shop. Seeing that Shen Jun was pitiful with her child, they told her the secret recipe for roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) and trained her for several days before closing down and going home.

Thanks to this roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) recipe, Shen Jun's small shop next to the middle school became very popular, with a constant stream of customers. Many people even drove there to buy roujiamo. Chu Yu also relied on this small shop to finish high school and university.

Shen Jun maintained contact with the elderly couple. After Chu Yu became wealthy, to thank them, he even treated them to a trip to Beijing. They flew first class, stayed in five-star hotels, ate at the most expensive restaurants, and were treated to delicious food and drinks for a week before he sent them back.

What Zou Minzhao said completely overlapped with Shen Jun's trajectory in her previous life.

But only Shen Jun and her daughter Chu Yu knew about these things! How could such a coincidence happen in the world?

Wait, what did Zou Minzhao say again? She said her daughter is also named Chu Yu, the same name as her!

Zou Minzhao said that she would never see her daughter again, but she didn't say that her daughter was dead. Since Chu Yu was able to travel to 1983, is it possible that her mother, Shen Jun, did not die, but also traveled to this time and space?

Now that her hypothesis is true, it's not hard to explain why Zou Minzhao knew the recipes for roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) and fried chicken, which were only known to her.

Chu Yu's heart was pounding faster and faster. She wanted to ask Zou Minzhao, but she was afraid of getting a negative answer and having her hopes dashed.

It's one thing to have no hope, but the feeling of being full of hope only to have it shattered is just too painful.

Chu Yu's throat tightened. She opened her mouth, but after a long while, she managed to utter a sound: "What's the name of that middle school?"

Zou Minzhao smiled, assuming she was just chatting idly.

"Changfeng Middle School, that's my daughter's alma mater, the best middle school in our area. You wouldn't believe it, my daughter has always been popular since she was little. Not only did the teachers like her, but all the boys at school liked her too. They would often come to my shop to eat, just to sneak a glimpse of her. You know, it's fine during the week, but they would even come during winter and summer vacations. If my daughter said a few words to them, they would blush. Isn't that adorable?"

Chu Yu suddenly grabbed Zou Minzhao's hand. Her eyes widened, and her fingers gripped Zou Minzhao's knuckles tightly. Her arm trembled uncontrollably from excitement.

Zou Minzhao paused for a moment, then touched her fingers with his back turned. "Why are you trembling so badly? Are you cold? Should we call them in to get you some more clothes?"

In mid-to-late August, the evenings in Beijing gradually became noticeably cool, and the old houses were damp, so Zou Minzhao thought Chu Yu was cold.

But Chu Yu was clearly excited!

She didn't utter a word, but stared intently at Zou Minzhao with her overly bright eyes. Under Zou Minzhao's confused and bewildered gaze, she said in a tearful voice:

"Class 5, Changfeng Middle School, Student ID No. 2".

Zou Minzhao's smile froze. "How did you know my daughter's class and student ID number?"

“I not only know her class and student ID, but I also know your name is Shen Jun, your father is Shen Daohe, your mother is Wang Zhihua, and you have an older sister who is very close to you and often helps you with your living expenses. I also know that your daughter was admitted to a university in Beijing, and after graduation, she stayed in Beijing and opened two companies and bought five houses. She bought you a villa in your hometown, a red Porsche, and took you to travel all over the world. You took photos together in front of world-famous attractions, she took you to eat at Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, bought you beautiful floral dresses, and helped you get the most fashionable hairstyles. She always wanted to give you the best things and the most presentable love! She wanted to be filial to you for the rest of her life, but your health was always poor, and you were diagnosed with cancer and passed away a few years later. After you left, she was very sad. She felt that the time she spent with you as mother and daughter was too short, and God was unfair to her. Later, she jumped into a reservoir to save people, and when she woke up, she was in this world, becoming Zhou Chuyu, who had the same name.”

Many expressions flashed across Zou Minzhao's face: disbelief, shock, emotion, sadness, grief... Chu Yu had never seen such a complex expression on anyone's face before.

Then, these expressions converged, and Zou Minzhao burst into tears. She grabbed Chu Yu's wrist in disbelief, carefully touching the marks on it. She stared intently at Chu Yu, as if trying to see her daughter through her. She opened her mouth, but didn't say a word, just kept crying and crying.
